If you consider yourself to be a big fan of cool manicures, then the following may send you over the edge…

The shattered glass manicure effect is sweeping Instagram, and we are in LOVE with it.

Now OBVIOUSLY it's not real glass (that would be dangerous ladies) but it’s actually thin slivers of cellophane (think shinier cling film) arranged on the nail to reflect light.

The results are pretty darn cool, and will guarantee you all the likes on Insta.

The trend started in South Korea (of course) recently, and has been growing in popularity ever since.

We cannot WAIT to try this look!

Succulent nails. Yep, that's the Internet's latest beauty trend.

And while florals and plants may be totally on trend at the moment, we're not digging this at all. In fact, it makes our skin crawl.

At first, we thought the plants were actually GROWING on you, but further research shows that the plants are just glued onto an acrylic nail with Oasis glue, and then put onto your natural nail.

And even though that sounds a little better, we still don't fancy a cactus on our nail bed.

The creator of this succulent design is Australian artist Roz Borg and she told Huffingnton Post: “I had been making real succulent jewellery and wanted to use the same application on something I had never seen baby succulents used on before."

Roz also explained that once they begin to chip, they can be re-potted: "The Oasis glue eventually releases and I can plant the baby succulents and they can grow happily."

Sorry, but we're not giving this the (green, ha) thumbs up.

The Internet has officially gone too far!

We are all about rocking the latest beauty and fashion trends, but the latest nail trend is one we will be staying FAR AWAY from.

Furry nails (yep) are now a thing, and they look as ridiculous as they sound!

A photo posted by MAKEUP (@glamoureal) on

It all started when the style director of CND nail polish sent models down the runway at the Libertine fall/winter 2016 show with faux fur on their nails.

Since then, the trend has been taking Instagram by a storm, and we just can’t cope!

What do you ladies think? Fashion eh?

Much like we thought hovering a buttercup beneath our chin as children would indicate our affinity for the dairy product, we were also brought up to believe that those small white marks on our nails suggested a lack of calcium.

But it turns out – like the buttercup fiasco of the 90s- one has absolutely no bearing on the other.

According to the good folk from the world of science, the small white marks which most of us ignore by painting over are, in most cases, a result of minor trauma – so minor it's likely we didn't even notice it happening.

With the help of a handy science lesson on YouTube, we soon learned that these marks – which are actually known as punctate leokonychia – have very little to do with how much milk you drink.

She’s one of the most controversial personalities to emerge from MTV’s 16 and Pregnant so it’s no surprise all eyes were on Farrah Abraham at the station’s Video Music Awards ceremony in New York last night.

And – clearly not wanting to deflect any attention that might come her way – the reality TV star arrived at the high profile event dressed from head to toe as the popular comic book character Wonder Woman.

While Farrah’s Lady Gaga-esque boots, oversized temporary tattoo, skimpy cape and turquoise coloured hair did earn her a place on a whole host of “Worst Dressed” lists this morning, the 25-year-old’s look did have one redeeming feature – her unbelievable nails.

In keeping with her own Wonder Woman theme, Farrah donned a manicure fit for a superhero as her lengthily nails also arrived to the event dressed in red, white and blue.

Images from Instagram show that each of the model’s nails had been individualised with cartoon images which ranged from partial gold and white stars to Wonder Woman’s face.

We’ve seen a lot of strange beauty trends over the last few years, but the new “polish mountain” challenge has to be one of the weirdest.

Bilingual blogger Cristine – who runs the site Simply Nailogical – posted a video to YouTube just over a week ago which has since been viewed over eight million times.

The video shows Cristine applying 116 layers of nail polish to her own nails in an attempt to go to “polish mountain” on behalf of her fans.

On her blog, the quirky Canadian describes the situation as follows: “So I went to polish mountain for you, now let me be your guide! You guys challenged me to put on as many coats of nail polish as I could, so I listened because I'm all for useful intelligent hack videos.”

“These are way more attractive than bubble nails if you ask me. It's like a jawbreaker for your nails. Honestly I got so hungry during the 12+ hours filming this that I might have tried to eat them."

Once the results had been revealed, the YouTube star – who has “two fluffy children that some people call cats” – then challenged her 1.4 million followers to “out-coat” her.

She asked her fans to pile on the polish before hashtagging POLISHMOUNTAIN to show her the results.

Judging by Cristine's original attempt, Polish Mountain is about to get weird – if anyone actually accepts the challenge, that is.

You might own every shade of nail polish under the sun, but do you actually know which nail shape suits you?

Whether you tend to keep them short and square or ultra long and pointed, the way you sport those claws can change how your entire hand looks as well as making your fingers look longer and leaner.

Yep, nail shapes and length are everything and we can guarantee there are a load of different styles that you have never even heard about.

From the ultra trendy coffin shaped nails a la Kylie Jenner or J.Lo’s favourite, ‘the squoval’, it’s about time you got up to speed on all you need to know.

Don’t believe us? Take the advice of manicurist to the stars, Julie Kandelac.

“Shape is everything,” Julie insists to InStyle magazine.

“A nail in a beautiful colour but that is the wrong shape for the hand sends the message that every detail was not taken into account.”

Julie, who has preened the hands of stars such as Olivia Palermo and Hailee Steinfeld, says that finding the right style for you is all about studying your natural nail shape.

“Look at the shape of the nail bed or ‘smile line,’ where the pink nail bed and white free edge meet.

“If the smile line is very deep or round, I’ll generally do a more rounded nail to keep the balance. If it’s not very deep, I’ve found that a soft square looks more natural.”

Another aspect of deciding on your nail shape is to take into account the shape and size of your fingers.

“If the client has very thin or delicate fingers, she can carry a more oval nail easier. If they’re wide or on the plumper side, doing a very oval, narrow nail looks forced.”

We don’t know about you, but we are jumping on the coffin shaped nail trend ASAP.

You might be a bit hesitant of this one – but believe us, it works.

Apple cider vinegar is a weird, but great way to step up your beauty game.

This multi-tasking ingredient can be used to prevent acne and even make nail polish last longer, but that's just the beginning!

Take a look at these…

Skin soother

Add a cup of apple cider to a bath filled with warm water and soak in it for 15 minutes.

The pH level of apple cider vinegar is similar to the pH level of the protective acid mantle layer of your skin, so this soak will help restore the balance.

Facial toner

Mix together one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and two cups of water. Moisten a cotton ball, and swipe over your clean, dry face.

The vinegar's natural alpha-hydroxy will stimulate circulation, as well as minimize your pores. Don't worry about the smell either, it will pass quickly.

Hair rinse

Mix two tablespoons of vinegar with one cup of water, and use it inbetween your shampoo and conditioner routine. It will remove any residue, to leave your hair strong and shiny.

Sunburn relief

Mix 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with four cups of water. Pour the mixture into a cloth and apply to your sunburned skin.

The pH level will promote healing and prevent any nasty blistering.

Razor bump remedy

Moisten a cotton ball with diluted apple cider vinegar and swipe over the problem area.

The anti-inflammatory properties of the vinegar will sooth irritated skin and the acetic acid softens skin to help with ingrown hairs.

Bruise healer

Soak a cotton ball with diluted apple cider vinegar and secure it to the bruised area with a bandage. Leave it on for one hour.

The properties in the vinegar calms injured skn and increases circulation and healing.

There’s nothing worse than nails that are so weak they break ALL the time.

If you want long and strong nails, it’s time to start taking better care of them. Just like the rest of your body, your nails require tender, loving care so you should never just ignore them.

Boost your protein

Protein is a building block for your nails, so make sure to add a lot of protein into your diet. Lean meats, eggs, and low-fat dairy foods are a great way to pump up the amount of protein you intake.

Nail oils

This is another thing you should be doing everyday. Simply rub a bit of nourishing oil into your nails and cuticles for about 60 seconds every morning and night.

Exercise

Exercise boosts your circulation throughout your body. That translates to better blood flow to your nails, which means a better flow of nutrients that your nails need for good health.

Filing

File your nails once every two weeks. Not only does it prevent snags and ingrown nails, it helps to keep them healthy and in shape.

Never peel your nail polish

This can actually take the top layers of your nail with it, which makes them thin and weak. That means way more breakage down the road. ALWAYS use a nail polish remover or if you have gel nails, make sure to go to a professional to take them off.

Sometimes you feel like you have your life totally under control and you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.

Then there’s the time when you can’t get your eyebrows to match, nothing in your wardrobe is suitable and you just want to get back under the covers and never emerge.

Interestingly enough, the one thing that can bring on this feeling of despair is this:

Whether you’re right or left handed, if you’ve ever tried to give yourself a manicure at home this has surely happened at some point.

However, you need never fear again because the good people at Allure have found us the most simple of solutions.

Glue. Glue is answer to all of your nail woes. Never again will you leave the house looking like you dumped your hand in a paint bucket. Success!

The ultimate life hacks for when you need your nails to be on point but you don’t have the time, or funds, to ask a professional for help.

Just make sure you’re using non-toxic glue. Then paint a thin coat around the nail bed and allow it to act as barrier between your skin and the polish.

When you’re finished with the polish, all you have to do is grab a tweezers and peel off the polish. Perfection, every single time.
