Today is National Slow Down Day.

An Garda Síochána is conducting a national speed enforcement operation supported by the Road Safety Authority for a 24 hour period from 7am on Monday September 4 until 7am on Tuesday September 5, 2023.

The aim of National Slow Down Day is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, to increase compliance of drivers to stay within speed limits and to act as a deterrent to driving at excessive speeds.

During the first two hours of National Slow Down Day today, 15,786 vehicles had their speed checked and 50 drivers were caught speeding.

The highest speed so far was a driver going 155km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass Westmeath.

So far this year, there have been 127 deaths on Irish roads, which is 23 more than the same period in 2022, and 38 more than the same period in 2019.

Tragically, 1 in 3 (43) of all deaths so far this year were younger people that were under the age 25.

Approximately 1 in 4 (30) of all deaths this year were passengers in vehicles.

1 in 5 (25) of all deaths so far in 2023 took place during the month of August alone.

Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman, Roads Policing and Community Engagement released a statement that reads, “The trauma on our roads so far in 2023 is and will have lasting impacts on families and communities. An Garda Síochána continues to carry out speed enforcement across our roads”.

“Every driver has a personal responsibility to not only drive within the posted speed limit but also to drive at a speed appropriate to the conditions”.

She continued, “Speeding is reckless, not just to the motorists themselves and their passengers, but to all road users, especially vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists. This is not just about speeding enforcement detections. It's about saving lives”.

“I’m appealing to all road users to support us in our efforts to keep everybody safe on our roads.  Please slow down, check your speed, drive safely, not only on National Slow Down Day, but every day”.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on Irish roads.

Joe Jonas has seemingly responded to rumours he’s getting a divorce.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Jonas Brothers singer had ‘retained a divorce laywer’ for his marriage to Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.

According to outlets such as TMZ and People, the couple have been experiencing ‘problems’ for a while and have been heading towards a separation. Joe had also recently been spotted out in public without wearing his wedding ring.

While neither Joe nor Sophie have released an official comment on their marriage, it seems as though the Sucker hitmaker has made a subtle response to the rumours.

Joe is currently on tour with his brothers and bandmates, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas, as part of their ‘The Tour’ concerts.

At their performance in Texas last night, the 34-year-old could clearly be seen wearing his wedding band throughout the concert.

Photos of Joe on stage with his ring on quickly began to circulate on social media, and fans have since been responding to the singer’s quiet message.

“A tiny bit of hope to get me through the day,” one fan penned on Twitter.

“Good, great, I hope they work things out,” another wished.

“Yess I really need the Joe and Sophie news to be fake pls,” a third fan wrote.

Joe and Sophie first met in October 2016, when the Camp Rock actor chose to approach his future wife through Instagram. One year later, the pair were engaged.

In May 2019, Joe and Sophie chose to elope in Las Vegas, with just Joe’s brothers as witnesses. One month later, they celebrated their marriage with family and friends during a stunning ceremony in France. 

In July 2020, 27-year-old Sophie gave birth to the couple’s first child together. After welcoming their daughter into the world, Joe and Sophie became parents again in July of last year, when their second baby girl was born.

Ashley Madekwe is now a mum! 

Congratulations are in order for Ashley Madekwe and her husband Iddo Goldberg as they have welcomed the birth of their first child together. 

Many famous faces have shared their joy for the couple online after they revealed their baby boy had made his entrance into the world. 

The Strays actress announced her son’s arrival on social media and described him as ‘pure bliss’.

Ashley posted a carousel of photos from throughout her pregnancy with her blossoming baby bump on display to her 585K Instagram followers. 

The last snap in the collection of beautiful pictures is of her newborn son’s tiny feet. 

The 39-year-old captioned the sweet post, “I loved holding him inside my body and I already miss it”.

She continued, “But now he is here and to actually hold him in my arms is pure bliss. There’s nothing like it”.

Many celebrities and fans of the Revenge actress flooded the comments with congratulatory messages. 

The Resident star Emily VanCamp wrote, “Bliss! Enjoy it all. Can’t wait to meet him”.

“So happy for youuuu!”, penned The Vampire Diaries actress Claire Holt, while The Princess Diaries’ Mandy Moore said, “Congrats friend!!!”.

Don’t Worry Darling star Gemma Chan added, ““Congratulations and love to you all”.

Ashley then headed to her Instagram Stories to share another snap from when she was still carrying her son and shared a heartwarming tribute to her husband for taking so many photos of her during her pregnancy.

Madekwe penned, “I loved being pregnant. It surprised me how much I loved it. Thanks you to my husband @iddophoto for taking 1000’s pictures of me so that I never forget the best experience of my life. You made me feel so beautiful”.

Ashley and Iddo tied the knot in June 2012 and announced they were expecting their first child together back in April of this year.

Faye Brookes has finally shared details of her beautiful Cotswolds wedding!

The Coronation Street actress, best known for her role as Kate Connor, married Iwan Lewis last month after 10 months of dating.

The couple, who first met in 2007 and later went on to star in Legally Blonde together on stage, tied the knot on August 23.

Now, almost two weeks on, Faye and Iwan have opened up to OK! about their whirlwind day.

The newlyweds held their ceremony at a church in Gloucestershire, near where they live. However, the couple admitted that not everything ran smoothly on their big day, as theatre actor Iwan recalled that their organist didn’t show up. 

“The brilliance is when you’re in the theatre industry you’ve got a lot of musically talented friends. So, Francis Goodhand, who is a wonderful musical director in the world of musical theatre, who also taught us in drama school, stepped up to the plate,” he praised.

The 34-year-old groom also detailed that he crumbled as Faye walked up the aisle.

“I was as cool as a cucumber and kept going up to people saying, ‘My hand is so steady.’ But as soon as she started coming down the aisle I could feel the energy build and I couldn’t hold it together at all,” Iwan teased.

Faye went on to add: “I was overcome with emotion when my dad gave me away and seeing Iwan cry as well. It is a rare moment to see him cry.”

The lovebirds held their reception in a marquee, attended by both Corrie and musical theatre stars. Speaking about the future, Faye revealed that she has legally changed her name.

“I’m changing my name and I’m no longer going to be known as Faye Brookes,” she announced.

“Not a lot of people in the industry do this, but I’m so proud and so excited to see what could come of that idea of introducing myself to the world as Faye Alicia Lewis – which is now my full name,” she exclaimed, hinting that the couple have “a lot of business ideas”.

The Script have paid an emotional tribute to their late bandmate.

The Irish band’s lead guitarist and co-founder, Mark Sheehan, tragically passed away on April 14 following a brief illness.

A few months on from the 46-year-old’s death, the band have chosen to honour him during their recent homecoming shows.

Over the weekend, the remaining members of The Script – Danny O’Donoghue and Glen Power – took to the stage with their band at Electric Picnic.

During their set, lead singer Danny chose to pay tribute to the band’s late member.

“Earlier on this year, we lost our brother Mark Sheehan, guitarist from The Script – not just a guitarist, a best mate,” he spoke to the crowd.

“It’s f***ing mad, man. You never realise what you have until it’s gone, and it just makes me want to live life to the fullest and just take in all of these moments,” Danny continued, getting emotional on stage.

The 42-year-old went on to thank their fanbase for their support.

“We’re musicians at the end of the day. We hurt the same, and I just want to say thank you so much to anybody who has been playing the music, or just remembering Mark,” he praised.

“You’ve really just been getting us through this entire time. Music is the one true religion for me, it always has been,” The Man Who Can’t Be Moved hitmaker confessed.

Danny concluded his speech by admitting a heartbreaking truth about Mark.

“I’d love to sing him a song now. Honestly, he was dying to do Electric Picnic. Like I said, this was going to be the last gig we were going to be doing,” he shared, before confirming: “This song is called If You Could See Me Now."

On April 14, the band announced that Mark had sadly died earlier that day.

“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time,” they penned at the time.

Bumble Inc. has updated its Community Guidelines to provide its most extensive guidance to members on prohibited behaviours, highlights commitment to tackling spam accounts and behaviours through machine learning

Today, Bumble Inc. (NASDAQ: BMBL), the parent company of Bumble, Bumble For Friends, and Badoo, announced the release of its updated Community Guidelines aimed at promoting a safer, kinder experience for all its members.

The guidelines help to support a safe community for its members through making it clear what content and conduct is not acceptable. Bumble Inc.’s revised guidelines underscore the importance of authenticity, safety and kindness through:

New guidelines that prohibit any attempts to artificially influence connections, matching, conversations, or engagement through the use of automation or scripting.

Updating its Bullying and Abusive Conduct policies to prohibit doxxing and the malicious sharing of personal identifying information alongside rules to discourage no-show behaviours through disallowing the act of not turning up to an in-person meet up despite clear plans agreed by both parties. Bumble is also the only platform to now have a policy related to victim blaming/ shaming.

Reinforcing member safety through providing an industry leading definition of sexual assault, which Bumble Inc. defines as any unwanted physical contact or attempted physical contact that is sexual in nature.

Cracking down on the presence of adult content on its apps through introducing a blanket ban on the promotion of adult content in profiles, including attempts to sell, advertise, or buy adult sexual content.

The guidelines make it clear that any behaviours that goes against these newly updated policies may result in individuals losing access to Bumble Inc.’s platforms and will continue to evolve to address emerging risks and potential harms that may occur from new behaviours.

Renowned Irish Makeup Artist Michelle Regazzoli Stone unveiled a masterpiece of velvety perfection in the surroundings of Hyde Dublin, as it was transformed into a plush pink paradise for the launch of the latest MRS Glam product – The Glorious Skin Powder Foundation.

Beauty lovers from all over Ireland gathered at the city centre venue to celebrate with Michelle and the team, including Celebrity Makeup Artist Paula Callan, Fitness Influencer Kiki Nugent, Ellie Kelly, Nikki Whelan, Ellen Kavanagh, Erin McGregor and Taylor McGregor. Guests were greeted with pink cocktails on arrival, and the melodic vibes from the saxophone player provided the entertainment on the night, as well as the DJ, who filled the rooftop venue with an electric atmosphere. Colour matching stations were set up throughout the room, ensuring that each guest was gifted with the correct shade and undertone for what is about to become their favourite base.
