Victoria Coren Mitchell is now a mum-of-two!

The Only Connect presenter has announced that she has quietly welcomed her second child with her husband, comedian David Mitchell.

Victoria has confirmed that she welcomed her little one last week, joining the couple’s eight-year-old daughter Barbara.

The 51-year-old chose to take to social media yesterday to share the unexpected news.

In a message posted on X, Victoria made reference to a post that she had shared on October 31, which showed her dressed up in a red cloak.

“Many people are assuming my tweet yesterday was a Halloween costume. Not at all; last week I had a baby and nothing currently fits me except cloaks,” she teased, subtly announcing the birth of her second child.

At the end of her message, Victoria concluded: “Luckily, Only Connect is a pre-record. Happy All Saints Day!"

Following on from her baby joy, many fans of Victoria and David have since taken to the replies of her post to send well-wishes on their newest arrival.

“Congratulations to you both!! So excited you have another addition to the clan xx,” one follower penned.

“Many congratulations Victoria and to David, I hope baby is doing well,” another replied.

While Victoria chose not to share the name of her newborn in her message, the couple did share the name in an official birth announcement.

In a segment in newspaper The Times, it was revealed: “MITCHELL on 26th October 2023 to Victoria and David, a daughter, June Violet sister to Barbara."

After initially meeting at a film premiere back in 2007, Victoria and David did not start dating until three years later. However, Victoria has previously stated that it was ‘love at first sight’.

“I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I probably would marry him,” she recalled to the Radio Times in 2016.

The pair did indeed tie the knot in November 2012, and later went on to welcome their first child, Barbara, in May 2015.

We finally have a Mean Girls reunion!

Last month, fans of the hit 2004 film were sent into a frenzy when three of its stars were spotted filming a secret project.

Now, almost 20 years after Mean Girls first hit our screens, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert have joined together once more!

Earlier today, US shopping chain Walmart released a promotional video for Black Friday. Much to the delight of Mean Girls fans, the advertisement is set at North Shore High School in today’s world.

“At North Shore, some things never change. On Wednesdays, we still wear pink,” Lindsay Lohan teases in a voiceover, as her character Cady Heron.

In a separate scene, fans get an update on the career path of Karen (Amanda Seyfried), as she states to a camera: “Karen Smith here with the weather. There’s a 30 percent chance it’s already Wednesday.”

Later on, it is revealed that Cady has taken up a primary position at the school, as we see Lohan sat behind a desk.

“Even as the guidance counsellor, I was still getting schooled,” she jokes in a voiceover, as the new generation’s ‘Mean Girls’ mock her for using the word ‘grool’.

We even get a glimpse into the home life of Gretchen (Lacey Chabert), as she helps her daughter and her two friends film a dance routine.

“This is going to be so fetch,” Gretchen gushes, before her daughter responds: “Stop trying to make fetch happen, Mom! It’s still not going to happen.”

Towards the end of the advert, Cady, Gretchen and Karen appear on screen together again, as they gather to watch the school’s winter talent show.

Following the commercial’s release, many Mean Girls fans have since been taking to social media to express their thoughts on the mini-reunion.

“Way to tease us! We need another movie!!!!” one Instagram follower begged.

“Hey has anyone seen Regina George lately?” another joked, referring to the absence of actress Rachel McAdams.

“The joy we needed,” a third fan added.

Angela Scanlon has been lifting the curtain on her Strictly experience so far!

The TV presenter is currently taking part in this year’s lineup for Strictly Come Dancing.

As Angela prepares to head into week seven of the competition with her dance partner Carlos Gu, the star has chosen to share a glimpse into her journey on the hit BBC show.

Earlier today, the 39-year-old took to her Instagram stories and asked her 344K followers to send her questions for a Q&A.

During the session, Angela was asked how her two daughters – five-year-old Ruby and one-year-old Marnie – have been coping with their mum’s hectic new schedule. In particular, one fan queried if Angela’s little ones enjoy her dances each week.

“They're into it!! They ask for a fresh video every evening after training-watching it intently. My eldest is very much a performer – bloody loves an audience and is now obsessed with Strictly,” the mum-of-two teased.

Angela then went on to admit that her daughters’ positivity surrounding the show uplifts her when she is struggling through training.

“It's very cute to see them dancing together & actually sometimes when I feel overwhelmed by the whole thing we bang on some music & I watch them dance like wildlings & remember why I'm doing it!” she wrote.

Angela’s admission about her daughters comes as she recently noted that they are the reason why she chooses to forgo wearing Strictly’s traditional fake tan.

In an interview on Lorraine last month, the mum-of-two explained why she has chosen to embrace her pale skin.

“I have two young daughters and I feel like if I’m telling them to be comfortable in their own skin and embrace what they have, and then I don’t embody that myself, it feels a little hypocritical,” she confessed.

Angela and Carlos will be taking to the Strictly dance floor once again this Saturday, as they perform a Samba to the song Ain’t It Funny by Jennifer Lopez.

Now that the midterm is here, it’s the perfect time to get your family ready for the upcoming winter months. Finding the time to get to your local GP or pharmacy can be difficult between school runs and after school activities but since the children have time off, this week is ideal to get them booked in for their winter flu vaccine.

New research from the Irish Patients Association (IPA) reveals that 4 in 10 parents hesitate to get their children the free winter flu vaccine. Despite 1,274 children being hospitalised with the virus during the flu season last year, over a quarter of parents perceive the winter flu as not having serious consequences for their children. In response to this, Mayo GAA Star Aidan O’Shea, Pharmacist Laura Dowling, and Professor of Immunology Christine Loscher have joined forces with the IPA to launch the ‘Flunited’ campaign, urging parents to protect their children from flu this winter.

The ‘Flunited’ campaign, emphasizes the importance of the children’s flu vaccine this winter, rallying parents and guardians to unite with the ‘Flunited’ team to combat the annual flu outbreak as a collective effort! The campaign aims to highlight that for young children sometimes the consequences of flu can be serious and can lead to problems such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and inflammation of the brain (encephalitis).

The children’s flu vaccine, administered as a free nasal spray to all children 2-12 and children aged 13-17 at high risk of flu, is accessible at local GPs, participating pharmacies, and, for the first time this year, in participating schools across the country.

During the 2022/2023 flu season, a staggering 1,274 children were hospitalised with the virus. Despite these alarming statistics, recent research conducted by Empathy Research on behalf of IPA has revealed that over 4 in 10 parents (44%) hesitate to vaccinate their children against winter flu.

Professor of Immunology Christine Loscher says, “Children are twice as likely to catch flu as adults. Children with complications may need hospital treatment. Some may need intensive care. In the past 10 years in Ireland, almost 5,000 children were admitted to hospital with complications of flu. Almost 200 children had treatment in intensive care and 40 children died. So it’s key parents are aware of the risks.”

The research also uncovered insights into parental attitudes toward the children’s flu vaccine including:

  • Females (49%) exhibit a higher likelihood of hesitancy compared to males (38%)
  • Parents aged 34-44 (53%) and those in Connacht/Ulster (56%) are more likely to express hesitancy.
  • Over 6 in 10 parents who hesitated (62%) expressed concerns about potential adverse reactions, while just over a quarter (26%) believed that the flu does not have serious consequences in children.
  • More than half (51%) of parents reported that their children missed school days in the last year due to flu or its complications. The impact of these missed school days includes significant learning opportunities lost (57%) and parents having to take time off work to care for their children (36%).

Slightly over half (51%) of parents are aware that flu can have severe consequences in children, such as ear or respiratory infections. More than three-quarters (77%) of parents are aware that children are significant flu spreaders, capable of longer contagious periods compared to adults.

Speaking at the campaign launch, Aidan O’Shea said: “As a Dad, I know everyday life is disrupted when children are sick. This impacts not only their well-being but parents’ work, routine, and kids’ education. We all have a responsibility to stop the spread. So don’t let the flu take the field – Join Flunited’s winning team!”

Stephen McMahon of the Irish Patients Association, strongly advocated or collective action, saying: “Together, we will guarantee a robust, flu-free season for schools and households throughout the nation.”

This flu season, all children aged 2-12 years will be offered the flu vaccine free of charge at participating schools, pharmacies, and GP practices. Children aged 13-17 at high risk of flu can also get the children’s nasal flu vaccine for free. Please speak with your pharmacist or GP to see if your child is eligible.

*Research was conducted by Empathy Research through an online survey across a nationally representative sample of 460 parents in Ireland. Research was conducted amongst members of Empathy Research’s proprietary research panel Fieldwork was conducted In October 2023. The sample size of N=460 results in a margin of error of +/- 5%.

The offences include measures targeting violent and organised crime, and violence against Gardaí and other emergency service workers.

From today, and under Minister McEntee’s Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023, the maximum sentence for assault causing harm, a common offence in domestic abuse cases as well as in other assaults, increases from five years to ten years.

The scope of the existing harassment offence is widened to include any conduct that seriously interferes with a person’s peace and privacy, or causes alarm, distress or harm.

There is now a new standalone offence of stalking in effect, with a maximum sentence of up to ten years.

A standalone offence of non-fatal strangulation or non-fatal suffocation has also been introduced. This carries a maximum sentence of up to ten years. A standalone offence of non-fatal strangulation or non-fatal suffocation causing serious harm with a maximum sentence of up to life imprisonment has been created too. These are often indicators of further, potentially lethal violence against a woman.

The maximum sentence for assaulting or threatening to assault a Garda or other on duty emergency workers increases from 7 to 12 years.

The maximum sentence for conspiracy to murder increases from the current penalty of 10 years to life imprisonment. This has been designed to further toughen the laws around gangland crime.

Speaking about the new criminal offences and toughening of existing sentences today, Minister McEntee explained, “The commencement of this Act is an important milestone and underlines this Government’s commitment to building stronger, safer communities”.

“This means tackling gangland criminals, ensuring our Gardaí and emergency workers are supported in the work they do and having Zero Tolerance for domestic, sexual and gender based violence”.

Speaking to Prima magazine, Strictly: It Takes Two co-host Janette admitted that she is finding motherhood to be a surreal experience.

“I remember sitting at It Takes Two a couple of years ago saying, ‘Hopefully we fall pregnant, hopefully we can conceive,’ and then I’d take another test and it would be negative again, so it got to the point where we thought we’d have to deal with different ways of doing this,” she recalled.

Janette then went on to add: “We went through the whole process of IVF. I took the hormones, we did the tests and I was about to start the injections – and then Lyra decided to pop up.’’

Kendall Rae Knight has been dropping baby name hints.

The former Love Island star, known for taking part in the dating show in 2018, announced the wonderful news that she’s expecting her first child with her footballer partner Andrew Hughes in September.

As her due date nears closer, Kendall has shared an insight into her baby name ideas, revealing that she and Andrew have had a name chosen for their little one for ‘years’.

While opening up on social media, the mum-to-be admitted she won’t be telling people what the moniker is until her bundle of joy arrives because ‘people have so many opinions’.

Answering a Q&A on her Instagram Stories for her 753K followers, Kendall received a question that asks, “Have you got any baby names yet?”.

Knight replied by explaining, “So I used to lie when people asked me this question and be like, ‘No, no we’ve not thought of anything’”.

“And then people would ask Andrew and he’d be like, 'Yeah we know. We’re just keeping it to ourselves'”.

She went on to say, “We’ve literally had our baby name for years but we’re just keeping it to ourselves because people have so many opinions”.

“It was going to be the same name whether it was a boy or a girl. It’s more of a boy’s name so it fits perfect".

“But I did actually really like it for a girl. It’s just such a cute baby name. When it’s older, like a teenager, we may shorten it and it may get a nickname from all its friends or even Andrew because sometimes Andrew calls it slightly different”.

Kendall added, “As a baby, it’s going to be its full name, but yeah, it’s so cute! You’ll know in like four months time… you’ll know soon anyway”.

Just last week, Kendall revealed the exciting news that she and Andrew are expecting a baby boy.

The couple had an intimate gender reveal with just the two of them finding out they’re having a son by opening an envelope with the gender inside, in front of a sunset.

When announcing the news, the former reality TV star exclaimed, “It’s a little …BABY BOY!!!! This was the happiest, most magical moment for us so far!”.
