Samantha Womack has been opening up about her recent journey with breast cancer.

The former EastEnders star, who played Ronnie Mitchell on the long-running BBC soap, shared her diagnosis with the world in August of last year. The mum-of-two had been given her diagnosis two months previously.

After a period of treatment, Samantha then confirmed in December 2022 that she was thankfully cancer-free.

Now, the 50-year-old is using her experience with breast cancer to highlight the importance of regularly checking for symptoms.

Samantha appeared on Loose Women earlier today to promote Digistain, which aims to give cancer patients and their doctors more detailed information, so that they can then create a better treatment plan.

During her discussion with her fellow panelists, the actress insisted that everyone of all ages should be looking out for any signs of breast cancer.

"Please check yourselves – young people too. It's so important, please, please, it happens to young people too,” Samantha urged.

The TV star’s appearance on Loose Women came after she gave a detailed recollection of her cancer treatment.

In a recent interview with Metro, Samantha expressed how difficult chemotherapy was for her.

"It's important to mention that when it's needed it's still an incredibly powerful and potent drug and does an amazing job," she explained.

"But when you're teetering between grades, meaning how aggressive the cancer is, you can sometimes sit, as I did, on a very fine line as to whether it's needed or not. And it's such a brutal treatment to have,” she continued.

Back in August, Samantha felt compelled to share her breast cancer news with the public, following the death of Grease star Olivia Newton-John from the same disease.

“What struck me was her journey had been 30 years and she was at the end and I was just at the beginning, and it took me back," Samantha noted.

"I felt very moved by it, I thought, 'I want to share it, I want to talk to people, I want to put it out there' and it was amazing, the love that came back. I felt empowered by it,” she added.

Robert De Niro has become a dad once again!

The 79-year-old has confirmed that he has welcomed his seventh child into the world.

The Goodfellas star shared his baby news during an interview with ET Canada. Robert had been discussing his parenting style and his most recent film, About My Father, when he disclosed his new arrival.

When the interviewer addressed Robert’s six children, he took the opportunity to clarify the figure.

“Seven, actually,” he teased, to the surprise of the interviewer. "I just had a baby," he added.

The Oscar-winning actor has yet to reveal the name or gender of the newborn, or who the mother of the baby is.

However, Robert went on in his interview to explain how sometimes, being a parent means making tough choices in order to protect your children.

"I mean, there's no way around it with kids. I don't like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice," he detailed.

"And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can't,” he added.

Prior to the arrival of his new bundle of joy, Robert had already welcomed six children into the world with previous relationships.

The Intern actor became a parent for the first time along with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, when she gave birth to daughter Drena (51) and son Raphael (46).

Then, in 1995, Robert became a dad to twin sons when his then-girlfriend Toukie Smith gave birth to Julian and Aaron, who are now 27.

With his second ex-wife, Grace Hightower, Robert also shares 24-year-old son Elliot and 11-year-old daughter Helen Grace.

Congratulations to Robert on his newest arrival!

Ekin-Su Culculoglu has opened up about her recent visit to Turkey, where she saw the devastation left behind following the earthquake that took place earlier this year.

The Love Island winner and her partner Davide went to Turkey to lend a hand to victims and spread awareness of the work that needs to be done there.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, Ekin-Su spoke about the ‘traumatising’ visit and shared details of a little girl who asked the reality TV star to adopt her.

While Ekin-Su said she “would love to take her”, she admitted she “just wants to raise awareness”.

After presenter Susanna Reid asked, “Do you know what the story was behind the little girl who asked you to take her home with Davide?”, Ekin-Su spoke about the heartbreaking experience.

“So, she doesn't remember much of the actual event. It was 4am, and all of a sudden, it was black. Everything was shaking. The walls were coming down and she was just screaming ‘Mum, mum, mum’”.

“And she doesn't remember anything else, and I think she has a little brother as well and that's all it is. And she just wants mum – mum, mum, mum. Anyone who comes in and gives her love, she just attaches herself and cannot let go”.

“I think she was about four, very very young. I think her father is alive, I think her mum is not alive”.

When admitting she “would love to take her”, Culculoglu explained, “But once you bring one home you want to help them all. I really just want to raise awareness. We don't know how lucky we are to be in the UK”.

“She wanted me to stay and be her mum because she had lost hers. I couldn’t hold my tears in. It felt very overwhelming. Some of the other children had also lost family members”.

Ekin-Su spoke candidly about her trip on Instagram last week after she shared footage and photos from her time there to her 3.2M followers.

She penned, “This trip has been the most emotional, moving experience in my life. I will never forget those words from the little girl who lost her mum from the earthquake say “Will you be my mum and take me home”. That moment will forever stay will with me”.

“What I learnt in this trip that love is unconditional and we always take things for granted in normal day life… life is so short. One day you’re here and then the next second life is gone”.

Focus Ireland has announced a new campaign to fight for the protection of homeless children.

Heartbreakingly, it has been reported that there are almost 3,500 children in Ireland being housed in emergency accommodation.

At the end of March of this year, 3,472 children were declared homeless and were living in emergency accommodation.

In response to these devastating figures, Focus Ireland has today launched a campaign for the ‘Best Interests of the Child’.

Speaking about the campaign on RTÉ Radio 1’s Morning Ireland programme, Focus Ireland’s director of advocacy Mike Allen shared the charity’s determination to change laws to protect homeless children.

In particular, Mr Allen has called for reintroduction and passing of the Housing (Homeless Families) Bill 2017, which insists that local authorities must consider the ‘best interests of the child’ when deciding how to help each homeless family.

"Everybody knows that homelessness is a dreadful thing. Experiencing homelessness is a dreadful thing for anybody, man, woman or child, but particularly for children. It's an appalling experience,” Mr Allen explained on the radio.

He then went on to detail how difficult homelessness can be for any child. "The loss of their home is traumatic in the first place. Then emergency accommodation may be a long way from your school and there may be no place for doing homework. You can’t invite your friends around. You lose all that sort of social contact,” he noted.

“Obviously, there should be no homelessness,” Mr Allen added, before concluding that “while we have children who are homeless, we should be doing a much, much better job at protecting them from the harm that that causes.”

Emma Willis has been opening up about her husband’s battle with addiction.

Busted star Matt Willis was already struggling with alcohol when he married TV presenter Emma in 2008. The couple have since gone on to have 3 children together – Isabella (13), Ace (11) and Trixie (7).

Ahead of the release of Matt’s new BBC documentary, titled Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction, Emma has been speaking to OK! about how her husband’s struggles have affected their life together as a family.

“Along with addiction comes a lot of bad times,” the 47-year-old said honestly. “As hard and as bad as that can be and has been, it also is part of who he is and who he is is who I love. We’ve been together for 18 years.”

After being sober for eight years, Matt relapsed with drugs in 2016 when his band Busted began touring again.

“You kind of kick yourself a bit on reflection because you're like how the f*** didn't I see that?” Emma recalled, admitting that Matt hid his relapse from her at that time. “All those key signs that I hadn't seen for so many years were all coming back.”

“Sometimes I feel like I’ve got four kids instead of three. There's been a lot of joy, but equally it's been incredibly heavy at times,” she continued.

Ahead of Busted’s new reunion tour this September, the former Big Brother presenter expressed in Matt’s documentary that she is worried about history repeating itself. “Matt’s always had issues, but they seem to really kick in when he’s on tour,” Emma explained in the film.

“I know he doesn’t want to be that person but is his brain going to trick him and go, ‘Just one more time..’? That’s the worry,” she added.

The mum-of-three concluded by sharing that she will always worry about her husband. “I try not to think too much about the past but then I have to remind myself that he’s relapsed massively when I thought he was all good,” Emma confessed.

Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction airs next Wednesday, May 17, on BBC One at 9pm.
