Yearly Archives: 2016

2016 has been a pretty WEIRD year in the world of beauty trends (and in general).

A popular trend that came up numerous times this year was weird (and sometimes wonderful) liquid eyeliner looks.

We have done a lovely little round-up of some of 2016's craziest eyeliner trends… for your viewing pleasure.

WARNING: some of them are sort of terrifying…

Congrats are in order for Amber Rose – she has a new boyfriend!

The talkshow host stepped out with her new man, Dancing With The Stars pro dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy, last night.

Rumours have been flowing since Amber took part in DWTS this summer and danced with Valentin's brother on the show.

Since then, they were spotted out together on numerous occasions, and even spent Halloween together; but this is the first time they stepped out as a couple.

A source who spotted them out last night told E! News: "They were sitting at a big booth and it was just the two of them sitting very close together in the middle.

"As they were sitting next to each other, their hands intertwined – definitely a date night."

A designer handbag is and will always be the ultimate covetable piece on our wish lists, but unfortunately we don't all have the budgets for a brand new luxury tote.

Unfortunately, especially in the run-up to Christmas, treat-yourself-Thursdays can be replaced with beans on toast, so getting an extra special holdall for the holiday season might seem like a pipe dream.

Luckily, we've found one boutique in particular that's serving up a series of affordable luxury bags at a fraction of the price, under €200 to be exact.

DKNY Tan Saffiano Leather Handbag, €180.00

Siopaella has been a haven for affordable designer pieces since it opened its doors in Temple Bar in 2011.

Since then, the store has expanded to include four amazing locations in the heart of Dublin, including their latest designer emporium on Wicklow Street.

Michael Kors Burgundy Leather Drawstring Bag, €89.00

"We love our new store," said senior Siopaella stylist Ciara McCaughey. "The location is great. Obviously we love Temple Bar, but the expansion onto Wicklow street has been our dream since first opening Crow Street."

"The best thing about buying a bag from us is that they are cheaper than retail, and if you buy a Chanel, Louis Vuitton or Hermes bag they actually appreciate in value," she said. "So, in the long run, you could make money from your Chanel bag."

Kate Spade Watermelon Clutch €99.00

The savings are there for buyers too, as Siopaella pieces have dramatic markdowns for pieces that are of perfect quality.

SHEmazing! has selected a few of the most affordable pieces from Siopaella with the help of their senior stylist, to prove that buying designer doesn't have to blow your budget.

Michael Kors tote, €149.00, available in store

The top brands on this list include Mulberry, Burberry, Michael Kors and Kate Spade, and every single piece comes in at under €200; so nabbing a designer bag actually can leave you with change left over for Christmas.

The only thing is that you have to snap them up quick, as most of the pieces are one-offs, and wont be back in stock.

Mulberry wallet, €199.00

If you already have the designer bag of your dreams or you want to get an affordable designer accessory for your sister, mum or girlfriend; a wallet could be just the thing.

One of Siopaella's most affordable premium wallets, from Radley, is a miniscule €25.00.

Burberry wallet, €69.00, available in store

Fashion should be ethical as well as an exciting part of everyday life, and choosing a re-sale designer piece helps the health of the environment as well as the health of your pocket.

Karl Lagerfeld, €180.00, available in store

While purchasing a designer bag for the party season might be a dream come true, choosing a versatile piece that will see you through the entire year is a much better investment.

"Purchasing a luxury handbag is an investment, not just in a timeless piece that can be treasured for years, but in the designers as well," said Ashley McDonnell, Digital Strategy Manager at LVMH, the fashion house in charge of Dior, Louis Vuitton, Celine and more.

"It's an investment in the highest quality of standards and craftmanship."

If you're hung up on getting the perfect party piece, this Kate Spade piece is ideal for creating a retro festive party look, with a pencil skirt and coifed curls.

A statement bag also means you can go minimalist with your look and let the clutch do the talking.

Pop into Siopaella at 29 Wicklow St, Dublin 2 to see what else is on offer. Your winter wardrobe will thank you.

If you are looking for an alternative gift for someone in your life, why not purchase a kit that allows them to make their own booze?

Yes, that is now well within the realm of possibilities, and we are LOVING it.

There is a company called The Gluttonous Gardener, and they offer a number of "grow-your-own" gifts, from jam to chilli.

This festive season, the company added a Prosecco-growing kit to their range!

So, it's kind of like a drunken bonsai tree!

The kit will set you back only €45, but you'll have to be pretty patient with your process.

The entire Prosecco production process takes six to 18 months, but the final product is so worth it!

What a cool and quirky gift idea.

Comedian Des Bishop has been confirmed to take part in Dancing with the Stars.

He revealed on last night's Late Late Show that he is one of the 11 celebrities set to star in the show this coming January.

The official Dancing With The Stars Instagram account posted a "guess who?" snap of the blurred-out comedian yesterday, asking social media users to guess what star was shown.

"I absolutely cannot wait for January, I can't think of a better way to spend the next few months," said the comedian.

"At my age, to learn something completely new such as ballroom dancing is an amazing opportunity."

"I mean I wasn't actually a big watcher of the show but when I got asked to do it, I'm totally into it," Des admitted.

"All morning I'm learning my dance moves, I'm obsessed with my dance moves."

Earlier this week, Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne were confirmed to present the first series. We can't wait for January!

St Stephen's Day is probably the best day during the festive season.

We know that Christmas Day is great for food and presents and family, but Stevie's Day is when the pubs re-open and you go out to have the craic with your mates.

Well, the Bernard Shaw pub is welcoming back its Stephen's Day Father Ted tradition, and we can't wait.

The South Richmond Street pub has been putting on the event for a good few years now, but they're promising this one to be bigger and better than ever.

On the day, there will be a quiz, a costume competition and a deadly DJ.

Doors open at 6pm, with the quiz kicking off at 7pm. See you there?

From Snickers bars to high heels – if it exists, someone has tried to contour with it.

While we prefer to just suck our cheeks in and hope for the best, one blogger has decided to add a brand new ingredient to the makeup mix.

If anything would make us embrace the pursuit of chiselled cheekbones, it's a bottle of rosé, which is exactly where this vino-based tutorial comes in.

Beauty blogger Eyeliner Addict uploaded the tutorial, which has since gone viral with over 5.4 million views.

The video starts out with the blogger using the neck of the bottle to angle the contour at her cheekbone but includes more advanced techniques, like shading around the nose, chin and brow using the curves of the bottle.

A photo posted by Drunk  (@always.drunkaf) on

There has been some shade thrown in the comment section of this video, about the ridiculousness of the contouring technique, but the creators have set the record straight by explaining that the video is a parody.

"Since there's been some debate, yes, this is just meant to be funny. No, I don't expect anyone else to try it. Just watch and laugh at all my funny faces, OK?" they explained in a Facebook comment.

Either way, the combination of wine and makeup is always a winner in our books (though maybe don't drink the wine while contouring, for a wearable result).

It is undoubtedly one of the most emotional days of his life, and Louis Tomlinson has broken his silence after the passing of his beloved mum, Johannah.

The former One Direction star, who is set to perform live on tonight’s X Factor, took to Twitter to thank fans for their support and well wishes – just a day after the sad news of his mum’s death broke.

“All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight,” tweeted the 24-year-old singer.

It has been a whirlwind 24 hours for the star, who is dad to 11-month-old son Freddie.

Shortly after Johannah’s husband, Dan, issued a statement confirming that she had lost her battle with leukaemia; it emerged that Louis is to make his debut solo performance tonight, on the show that launched his career.

Louis will take to the X Factor stage to sing Just Hold On, with DJ Steve Aoki, in accordance with the late Johannah’s wishes.

Since news of the mum-of-seven’s passing broke, fans and friends of Louis have reached out to the star.

The One Direction boys were among the first to send messages of condolence to a grieving Louis.

It's safe to say many of us were devastated last year when Clerys was shut down.

Clerys was the centre of shopping for many years in Dublin when a company called Natrium came in and closed its doors, making 460 people unemployed.

And now, the Irish Times has revealed the fate of the department store building.

According to the newspaper, the new development will keep its original architecture but will include high-end retail units, a boutique hotel, office spaces and entertainment and leisure facilities.

In a statement, the company said: “Natrium’s vision is also to re-establish O’Connell Street and its surrounding environs as a place of importance in the social and cultural life of citizens and visitors, where building will be a source of civic pride.

"Commerce created by the development will generate €329.1 million annually to the Irish economy."

Two weeks ago, make up artist Vlada Haggerty – known for her liquid lip art – accused reality TV star Kylie Jenner of allegedly copying her looks.

Now, there are threats of a lawsuit being filed against the youngest Kardashian-Jenner, for idea theft and copyright.

A photo posted by Vlada Haggerty (@vladamua) on

"Theft by big brands like Kylie Cosmetics from original artists without proper licencing and attribution must stop," said the McArthur Law Firm, who are representing Vlada, in a statement.

Vlada also believes that Kylie stole the idea for her dripping lip motif from the Ukrainian artist, which features on all of her Lip Kit packaging and cosmetics merchandise.

A photo posted by Vlada Haggerty (@vladamua) on

Back in December 2015, the Kylie Cosmetics makeup mogul posted an image of Vlada's 'lip drip' without crediting the makeup artist.

"The second I saw it, my heart dropped with excitement, up until the moment when I realised I wasn't mentioned in any way on the post," the make up artist told Mashable.

The lawsuit still has not been officially filed, and Kylie's camp has remained silent on the allegations.
