Anne Hathaway

Jennifer Lawrence's friendship with Amy Schumer might be the one getting all the attention of late, but the Oscar-winner also counts another A-lister among her circle of BFFs.

Actress Anne Hathaway has taken to social media to hit back at those criticising J-Law for her behaviour at this year's Golden Globes.

Jennifer came under fire after telling a journalist to put his phone away while he interviewed her in the Globes press room, immediately sparking a reaction online.

Some said Jen's response was justified – the journalist was apparently snapping pictures while interviewing her – while others blasted her as downright rude.

Anne is firmly in Jen's camp, and said as much in an open letter on Facebook this week.

"Dear the Internet," she wrote.

"It's become pretty clear that the Jennifer Lawrence 'scolding' was taken out of context and that she was dryly joking with a journalist who was indeed using his phone to take photos of her.

"Let's not continue the sad but common practice of building people – especially women – up just to viciously tear them down when we perceive them to have misstepped.

"Jennifer is a beautiful, talented, wildly successful, popular, FOUR TIME OSCAR NOMINATED young woman. Please let us not punish her for these things.

"Sincerely, a J-Law fan #‎supportstrongwomen #‎imwithher #‎whycantwegiveloveonemorechance."

Though she's generally quite private online, this isn't the first time in recent weeks that Anne's shared something personal on her social media accounts.

Two weeks ago the pregnant star took to Instagram to beat the paparazzi to the first "Anne's baby bump" shot, after spotting photographers tailing her during her New Year's beach holiday.

"Just now while I was at the beach I noticed I was being photographed," she wrote alongside a snap of her in a bikini.

"I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy."

Kudos to Anne.

Dressed in a red bikini and cradling her bump, Anne Hathaway looked like any other expectant mum as she posed for a smiling holiday snap this morning.

The one difference? She had a gaggle of paparazzi on her tail as she did so.

News of Anne's pregnancy was confirmed back in November, but today the actress acknowledged it publicly for the first time, after noticing a few long-lens cameras following her.

"So, posting a bikini pic is a little out of character for me, but just now while I was at the beach I noticed I was being photographed," the Les Miserables star wrote on her personal Instagram account.

"I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy (and be one that was taken with my consent. And with a filter :)"

We couldn't agree more – and there's no denying Anne looks downright amazing as she approaches her due date.

This will be the first child for the actress and her husband of three years Adam Shulman. Although it's not officially known when Anne is due, it's thought she's already at least six or seven months along.

Here's hoping she outsmarts the paps by sharing the first snap of her new arrival on social media too.

She's made no secret of her desire to start a family with her husband Adam Shulman – and now multiple sources are reporting that Anne Hathaway is indeed pregnant.

Most telling of all, however, is the Oscar-winning actress's noticeable baby bump – which was in plain sight as she stepped out with her producer spouse in Beverly Hills earlier this week.

"Anne is in her second trimester and feeling great!" one friend told E! News [where you can also view her bump].

It is thought that New York native has now begun to joyously spread the word among family and close friends.

Back in September at the London premiere of her forthcoming film The Intern, rumour was already abound that she was expecting – but she refused to confirm or deny the speculation.

However, another friend earlier today stated: "Anne still felt it was early days in September and was happier waiting another few weeks before spreading the good news.

"That and she really didn't want to have one of those long, drawn-out celebrity pregnancies.

"Both she and Adam are quite private and she made the decision to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible."

It is believed that the 33-year-old is due sometime in March.

Last year, while promoting Rio 2, she said: "I’ve wanted to be a mother since I was 16, but I also just knew I wanted to have a career as well.

"So now I think that I’m getting to an age when I don’t know exactly when that moment will be but I think I’m coming upon it."

She and Adam, 34, married in California in September 2012 – with Anne wearing a striking pink-tinged Valentino gown.

There’s something a bit satisfying about seeing celebrities BEFORE they became famous.

And usually that comes along with a weird hair do or less-than-fashionable clothes. But not this time.

Anne celebrated her People's Choice Awards nomination for Favourite Movie Actress by posting high school yearbook photos of fellow nominees Meryl Streep, Scarlett Johansson, Melissa McCarthy, and Sandra Bullock.

Usually, if someone posted an old photo of you, it would be a nightmare but these ladies look just as good then as they do now.

Can we just note how well Meryl Streep has aged?! You go, girl!

Anne Hathaway is definitely not the kind of celebrity to court a "nice girl" image just to get fans to like her. In fact, on more than one occasion she's openly been, well, a bit of a diva.

So we had to smile when we heard this story – although we bet the chef involved didn't feel quite so cheerful.

Anne was filming a Japanese commercial at Paramount's LA studios last week when she ordered some breakfast from catering… a poached egg, avocado and an English muffin.

So far, so simple.

But Anne's egg arrived too runny for her liking, and that's when the trouble started. According to TMZ, the situation unfolded like this:

1st plate: Poached egg too runny.

2nd plate: English muffin was cold because it sat while egg #2 was being poached.

3rd plate: Egg #2 cold because it sat while chef toasted muffin #2.

4th plate: Egg, muffin and avocado all perfect, but it took so long that Anne decided she was in the mood for a fried egg.

She might be an Oscar-winning actress, but Anne's not going to pretend she's satisfied with a runny egg just to keep the peace.

Sounds like a hard day on set (for the chef, that is).

We were almost beginning to warm to Anne Hathaway after her fangirl moment with Mariah Carey last week, but this latest news has us back at square one.

As A-listers go, Anne's never come off as the most likeable, and she's definitely not one we'd dream of as our BFF (unlike Amy Schumer, Anna Kendrick, Kristen Wiig… the list goes on).

And the Les Miserables actress only served to drive that point home this week when she treated one Irish TV personality to some blatant rudeness.

Stay tuned for @aislingoloughlintv3's chat with Robert De Niro and @annehathaway! #theintern

Xposé's Aisling O'Loughlin interviewed Anne this week during her promotional tour for The Intern, and she revealed that Anne couldn't clean off fast enough after shaking hands.

"I'm dying with a cold at the moment and I interviewed Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro the other day," Aisling told the Irish Independent.

"As soon as I shook her hand, she turned to her assistant and said, 'Can I get some hand sanitiser please?' Right in front of me."

Awks or what?!

Robert DeNiro hasn't had the best press in terms of interviews lately either, after walking out on one journalist citing "negative interference."

But Aisling said he was a breeze to interview, despite her nerves.

"The junkets can be a bit of a grind and with every question I was trying to formulate in my head; I was worried I was going to piss him off," she said.

"But they were fine, I even got a picture with him which I'm very proud of."

Even A-listers can get starstruck, it seems.

Oscar winner Anne Hathaway couldn't contain her excitement on Monday night when music legend Mariah Carey showed up at the same event as her.

The event in question was the premiere of Anne's new movie, The Intern, which opens in Ireland on Friday September 25.

Realising that the singer was right behind her on the red carpet, Anne stopped mid-interview to have a mini freak-out.

"She's here, she's at MY movie premiere… like she's two arm lengths away right now," she tells a reporter in the video above.

And like most of us when we get starstruck, the flustered actress could barely string a sentence together.

"“It’s just . . . the best glamorous ever," she gushes, before adding. "That's not even a sentence, there's no grammar there."

While the reporter tries to move on with other questions, Anne gets even more excited as the distance between her and Mariah decreases.

"She's like, an arm length away… I just love that this is on camera right now, is she in the background?!"

Anne's The Intern co-star Robert DeNiro had his own interview freak-out this week, but for a very different reason. He stormed out of a Radio Times interview after objecting to the interviewer’s "negative inference" in the questions and refusing to speak to her any longer.

The pair star together in the new comedy-drama, which sees a 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (De Niro) taking on the role of 'senior intern' at an online fashion site run by the much younger Jules Ostin (Hathaway).

Robert De Niro has been promoting his new film The Intern of late. While not all interviews can be with his new best friend Anne Hathaway, we didn’t expect this one to end how it did.

The actor stormed out of a Radio Times interview after objecting to the interviewer’s ‘negative inference’ in the questions.

The interviewer, Emma Brockes, called the star “depressed” before the interview was cut short. She says he asked her to stop recording their conversation before he started “pacing madly” and then storming out.

She asked the Oscar winner how he avoids falling into “autopilot” mode on set and the actor responded with “negative inference”.

Emma then asked where else he was referring to and he replied: “The whole way through and I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it, darling.”

She says that stuck his head out of the door of the room looking for someone to remove him from the interview before walking out himself. She then asked him where she was being negative:

“The question about being on autopilot – negative inference,” he said. She replied: “Wait, but I asked that question to establish how it is you manage not to be on autopilot.” He repeated: “There’s a negative inference.”

She told the Independent that his combination of “hostility and condescension” irritated her and she “lost her cool.”

"I certainly didn’t go in looking for an argument but when it happened I did think 'at least he’s finally saying something'," she added.

She also admitted that she does have sympathy for the star for having to do such interviews for the film. The Intern follows the story of his character who takes an internship at a fashion website owned by Anne Hathaway’s character.

Not yet released in Irish cinemas, the film has not been getting exceptional praise from critics stateside. The Hollywood Reporter referred to it as a “middling star vehicle.”

Even though Anne Hathaway is one of Hollywood's leading ladies AND has a Best Supporting Actress Oscar under her belt, she is still facing a lot of pressure to find work in recent years.

Anne, 32, spoke to Glamour magazine and admitted that she struggles to get parts because the best roles are going to the next generation of talented, younger actresses.

The brunette beauty discussed what it's like being a woman in the film industry as she posed in a dreamy photoshoot for Glamour.

The photoshoot captures Anne posing topless underneath a series of stylish, oversized coats.

Anne told the magazine: "I hate to admit it, but it’s true – there are fewer roles and the competition is just as fierce as ever."

"I look around at my peers and I’m so blown away by their talent and their beauty and their cool style, as well as their ability to be an actress and be a movie star and be good at it."

"I mean, they’re so good and we’re all trying to get the same parts."

The Devil Wears Prada star said that Hollywood's obsession with youth and beauty has helped her along in her career so far, however.

She revealed that in the past, she was the young actress landing the major roles, so now it's her turn to watch it happen.

"I can’t complain about it because I benefited from it", Anne explained.

"When I was in my early 20s, parts would be written for women in their 50s and I would get them."

"And now I’m in my early 30s and I’m like, 'Why did that 24 year old get that part?'"

Making the move from film to television has proved to work out pretty well for some Hollywood stars.

Unless you managed to miss all of the fuss surrounding last year’s True Detective, you might have noticed that Matthew McConaughey managed to firmly reinstate himself in the public’s collective consciousness.

No surprise then that a few others are looking into TV for future roles. Anne Hathaway is the latest actor to have made the move.

The 32-year old Les Miserablés star is set to join the cast of a television series based on the book the Ambassador’s Wife.

Written by Jennifer Steil, the wife of an ambassador herself, the story moves from the past to the present to introduce us to a Muslim country in turmoil and the sheltered life led by a diplomat’s wife (Anne’s character).

Vanity Fair is comparing the series to Homeland. They also draw some comparisons between Anne’s new series and the mini-series The Honourable Woman which starred Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was also cast in Christopher Nolan's series of Dark Knight films.

Many people are apparently wondering if this news come mean Anne would be in the running for landing her own EGOT, which would mean winning a Grammy, Oscar, Tony Award and an Emmy for her television appearance.

However, it’s important to remember that she already has an Emmy award for her voice-over acting in the Simpsons from 2012. So, she still has a way to go before landing the EGOT career milestone.

Look – he's one of the world's most successful designers, with an incredible career spanning more than half a century.

In short, Valentino Garavani, now also aged 83, has nothing to prove.

So if he wants to step out with skin the colour of a sweet and ripe satsuma, more power to him, we say.

Of course, it probably didn't help that he was standing beside Anne Hathaway – a woman who very much champions the pale and interesting look.

The duo were both at the famed Pacha nightclub on the island of Ibiza yesterday for the Flower Power party – where the the dress-code was floral.

Valentino happily sported a striking navy and white shirt with flower motifs from his own collection (natch), but Ms Hathaway, 32, merely nodded to the trend with a small, white bag with a subtle floral design.

She and the designer are long-standing friends, with Valentino previously saying she's like a daughter to him.

He created her incredible pink-blush wedding gown for her 2012 nuptials to actor Adam Shulman, and also dressed her for the 2013 Academy Awards – where she picked up the Best Supporting Actress gong for Les Misérables.

That’s right! Our favourite frizzy-haired princess is reportedly going to be back for a third instalment of The Princess Diaries.

Anne Hathaway is to reprise the role that made her a star in the 2001 film, according to Tracking Board.

While Disney has yet to officially announce the project, it has been reported that Debra Chase, who produced the first two films, is back to direct the third film.

Although it indeed looks as if Ms Hathaway will be back as Mia Thermopolis, there is no word as to whether Dame Julie Andrews will be returning to play our favourite royal grandmother just yet.

The films are based on the books by Meg Cabot, who recently released the latest installment of her series, Princess Diaries XI: Royal Wedding.

Let’s hope that this is just another tell-tale sign that the movie is actually happening!
