Unless you've been living under a rock in recent months, you'll know American businessman, Donald Trump, is currently hoping to become the next President of the United States.

And how better to communicate your love for America and its people than to pay tribute to the countless individuals who helped during one of the country's darkest days?

Addressing crowds in Buffalo, the New York-native reflected on 9/11, but unfortunately referred to the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre as 7- Eleven – the country's world-famous chain of convenience stores.

"I wrote this out, and it's very close to my heart," he said. "Because I was down there and I watched our police and our firemen down at 7/11, down at the World Trade Center right after it came down. And I saw the greatest people I've ever seen in action."

See the awkwardness unfold for yourself right here…

If you're currently living the People's Republic of Cork then you may need to keep a closer eye on your tush the next time you use the bathroom.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner, the recent floods have resulted in some very unfortunate rodent-related events, and you don't wanna be next, believe us!

Drawing Cork County Council's attention to the issue, Councillor Noel Collins explained that one Cork resident suffered injury after falling foul of a crafty rat hidden in the sewer system.

"The flooding resulted in another problem for residents, that of rat infestation, which really upset many families, mentally and physically, and indeed, one elderly gentleman suffered a rat bite to his posterior while using his toilet, and had to receive immediate medical attention," Councillor Collins said.

Issuing a warning to Corkonians following the unfortunate incident, Councillor Collins said: "I would advise homeowners to keep their toilet seats down when not in use, and to watch their posteriors."

Consider yourselves warned, ladies.

If you're a regular Luas user, prepare yourself for some potentially stressful news.

According to emerging reports, SIPTU has announced that following on from yesterday's discussions it looks like an all-out strike is 'seriously on the agenda' for Luas workers.

After several days industrial action over recent months, Transdev yesterday put Luas staff on protective notice – an approach which warns employees that their positions are in jeopardy unless something changes within the company in terms of finance or the viability of people’s employment.

Following Luas workers' recent rejection of an 18% pay increase, Transdev have dramatically lowered their offer and have given employees until Sunday to accept the new offer.

Responding to the developments, Siptu divisional organiser, Owen Reidy, told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that Luas workers have a lot of thinking to do.

"What we’re not going to do is fall into some sort of potential trap… where we have some knee-jerk reaction – we’ll consider this carefully,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Transdev maintain that 'Luas customers and the public must be at the forefront of how the dispute is resolved'.

Three Irish students who narrowly escaped with their lives following the Berkeley tragedy last summer have taken legal action against two of the companies involved in the incident.

Blackrock, the proprietors of the Library Gardens apartments, and Greystar, the Library Gardens managers are being sued by Aisling Tallon, Caroline Conlan and Cliodhna Maloney who claim they suffered 'severe mental and emotional harm' as a result of the harrowing event.

According to RTÉ, the three young women stepped off the fourth floor balcony mere moments before it collapsed during a 21st birthday party on June 16th in an incident which claimed the lives of five Irish J1 students and one Irish-American student.

The students, who shared an apartment with another of the tragedy's survivors, have initiated legal proceedings in the California Superior Court in Almeda County, saying they 'seen, heard and felt the collapse of the balcony, followed by seeing and hearing their dearest friends plummet to the ground below".

According to attorneys representing the three Irish women, the balcony had exhibited signs of severe water damage for more than ten years – something which the owners of the property are purported to have been aware of.

Ashley Donohoe, Olivia Burke, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcán Miller and Eimear Walsh all lost their lives in last summer's tragedy.

One year on from the tragic death of Cork-native, Karen Buckley, former classmates and teachers from Glasgow Caledonian University will gather together to mark the sombre anniversary at a private ceremony in the Scottish city later today.

24-year-old Karen was studying to become an occupational therapist in the university's School of Health and Life Sciences when she was murdered by Alexander Pacteau after a night out with friends in Glasgow's Sanctuary nightclub last April.

The vigil, which will allow classmates, lecturers and university alumni to remember the popular nurse from Mourneabbey in north Cork, will be held at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Commenting on today's ceremony, Linda Sinclair of Scotland’s Radio Clyde said: "The university don’t want to give out too many details. They want it to be a very private service for Karen’s classmates and for the staff. They want to pay their tributes and respect to Karen a year on."

21-year-old Alexander Pacteau is currently serving a life sentence for Karen's murder.

A woman reportedly slit a heavily pregnant mother’s throat, and ripped out her unborn baby in a deranged attempt to pass off the child as her own, according to media reports.

According to the Mail Online, Ashley Wade allegedly killed her victim Angelikque Sutton by slitting her throat, before performing a Cesarean section in an apartment in the Bronx.

The attacker, who is said to suffer from mental health issues,  reportedly ripped the baby girl from her mother’sstomach, and was later found her by her boyfriend cradling the newborn next to Sutton’s body.

Hysterical, Wade started shouted "It's my baby", as her partner surveyed the scene.

She told her partner that she had started wanting Sutton’s baby after hearing her tell neighbours about her pregnancy.Wade’s boyfriend immediately called the police. A local councilman in the Bronx, Andy King, told the New York Post:

“It looks like the baby was surgically removed. That this is a possible baby snatch – this is unforeseeable. With the holidays approaching, what a bloody way to start the season.”

Police are said to have found blood smeared over staircases and doorways that lead to the body of Angelique Sutton. In more graphic reports on the story police are said to have found a placenta and knife lying in the hallway next to the bathroom.

The mother was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, but authorities confirm the baby girl is doing well.

Ireland has kicked-off a great Rugby World Cup campaign so far – with tries galore leaving the team sitting on top of Pool D.

And Wales's stunning 28-25 win over host-nation England has had a major impact on the just-released world rugby rankings.

Yes, while the All Blacks remains the best team playing, Wales has climbed up two places on the same list – hitting the No.2 spot for the first time in the 12-year history of the weekly-released table.

Despite being something of a pre-tournament favourite, England, on the other hand, falls down to No.6. On this side of the water, there was good news for Ireland, however – the Boys In Green are up a spot to No.4 in the world.

France, our most threatening rival in Pool D, is currently ranked No.7.

Scotland is the biggest climber – making it into the Top Ten to reach No.9 from a previous ranking of 12.

Joe Schmidt's squad next face 14th-placed Italy in six days' time at the Olympic Stadium in London.

Earlier today it was announced that more than a million people had tuned into TV3 to watch the Ireland Vs Romania game yesterday.

Praise the musical gods!

Not only are we being gifted with the news that a Clueless musical is in the works, now one of our most favourite TV shows of all time is having a musical adaptation.

Creator of Cruel Intentions: The Musical are developing a new take on the hit Fox teen drama The O.C. There’s even a Twitter account for the new musical.

We can hardly contain our excitement. Christmukkah has come early for all the of the shows many, many loyal fans.

Director Lindsey Rosin and producer Jordan Ross shared a snap of the score on Friday with the lyrics to the song Paint the Silence. Die hard Ryan/Marissa fans will remember that song was playing during an oh-so important moment for the pair.

The series ran for 4 seasons from 2003-2007 (although to be fair most Marissa fans ignore season 4 entirely).

There’s no word as of yet who has been cast to play either Ryan (originally played by Ben McKenzie) or Marissa (Mischa Barton). A few of the other favourites have been cast though. Drew Sheely will appear as Luke “welcome to the O.C b***h” Ward and Christine Lakin will be Kirsten Cohen.

‘What about Seth and Summer?’ you cry. Or even Princess Sparkles and the famous daring Captain Oats? We’ll just have to wait and see, unfortunately.

The O.C: The Musical will begin its run at the end of August this year, it hasn’t yet been announced where though. Is it too much to hope that Dublin might be a worthy spot for the new show?

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and indulging in some marathon re-watches in the meantime. And yes we will be practicing all of the words to the theme song while we’re at it.
