Lori Loughlin

Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty to charges of mail fraud and honest services mail fraud in the nationwide US college admissions cheating scheme.

The American actress, known for her role in Desperate Housewives, allegedly paid $15,000 (€13,300) to rig her daughter's SAT score in order to get her into a better college.

The star entered her plea in a Boston federal court two months after her arrest in the Operation Varsity Blues case, where wealthy parents have been caught paying bribes to aid their children's acceptance into elite colleges.

The 56-year-old is among 14 parents who have agreed to plead guilty to the accused charges in the widely-publicised case, involving Lori Loughlin among others.

Authorities are referring to it as the biggest college admissions cheating scandal ever prosecuted in the USA. Hollywood stars and business executives have been involved in the proceedings, as well as coaches at Georgetown and Yale.

Huffman apparently paid a consultant, Rick Singer,  $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter's SAT answers and also considered carrying out the same plan for her younger son.

The actress was tearful in court as she faced consequences of her actions.

Parents are accused of using the admissions consultant to pay off entrance exam administrators to allow a proctor to sit tests for students or correct their mistaken answers.

Huffman has apologised for her crime and claims her daughter was unaware. "I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions," she said.

Prosecutors have stated that they will seek between four and 10 months in prison for Huffman. As she agreed to plead guilty, the recommended sentence will be at the low end of the range, and she may not actually end up in prison.

It has been pointed out that parents on the lower economic scale and especially parents-of-colour in the US have faced far longer prison times for lesser crimes.

The biggest university scandal that has ever hit the the US rages on.

While Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty to paying for her daughter to get into college, Fuller House and 90210 star Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli have found themselves in a much trickier spot.

The actor has now been hit with claims that she was determined to get her two daughters – Isabella Rose ad Olivia Jade into USC.

Not only did she fork out §500,000 buts he also pretend that they were on the rowing team to gain entrance, even though neither of them had ever rowed.

A family friend told PEOPLE, ''It was very important for her to be able to say that her girls were at USC. It was absolutely a status thing.''

They continued, ''Lori is used to getting what she wants. This is why she got in trouble in the first place. She got fixated on getting her girls into USC. And the fact that she wanted the girls to have things that she never had growing up.”

The 54-year-old and her fashion mogul husband now face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each charge.

Prosecutors say the pair paid the money to admissions consultant William “Rick” Singer and his nonprofit organisation, Key Worldwide Foundation (“KWF”), which prosecutors said was actually a front for accepting bribes.

Rick Singer has admitted to being the ringleader of the scam and has pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Lori and Mossimo have not made please like Felicity, who now only faces 18-24 months in jail.

According to PEOPLE, ''They were offered the carrot and the stick. The carrot was that this can all go away and you can serve your time and put it behind you. Remember, they were facing 20 years, even before the latest charges. The stick was that [the prosecution] would and could pile on more serious charges.”

They continued, ''They decided to roll the dice and it may have been a bad gamble. Now they’re in worse shape than before.”

The drama looks set to continue to unfold so watch this space.

Lori and Mossimo allegedly agreed to pay bribes totalling $500,000 to get their two daughters onto the USC crew team.

Mossimo was arrested this week and taken into custody while Lori hadn’t been arrested as she had been in Vancouver, working.

Lori then surrendered herself to teh FBI, set a  $1million bond and ‘put her home up as collateral’ to secure the bond.

Lori reportedly can honour her working commitments with the Hallmark Channel in Vancouver, but she has to surrender her passport in December once her contracted work has come to an end.

Lori has since deleted all of her social media accounts and is expected to appear in court alongside Mossimo and Felicity on March 29.

The scam centres around a Californian man running a business helping students to get into their chosen college by paying off exam administrators or sports coaches.

In most cases, students reportedly had no knowledge of the scam or their parents’ involvement.

Lori's younger daughter, Olivia Jade, was reportedly on a USC yacht when the news broke and social media are NOT happy with her.

One said, ''Thanks for taking space in college to do nothing.''

While another wrote, ''How about giving up your space in College for someone that's working hard to get in? And while you're at it ask your Mom to help pay for the kids that can't afford it!!''

Stay tuned for whatever the hell is gonna happen next.
