The past 12 months have been amazing for singer/song writer Ed Sheeran.

The musician released his highly anticipated album ÷, which almost went double-platinum in Ireland, as well as leaking his lead singles from the album Shape of You and Castle on the Hill, which remain in the charts almost nine months after their release.

Ed also sold out a global stadium tour – not too shabby we think.

With all the success and Ed-man ia gripping the globe, many thought that Ed Sheeran wa a shoe-in for a Grammy nomination.

However, when the nominations for Album of the Year were revealed, Ed hadn't made the cut.

He was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for Shape of You, but fans were definitely disappointed that he wasn't up for Album of the Year.

Ellen DeGeneres echoed fans sentiments, telling Sheeran in an interview that she is outraged he was not nominated for Album of the Year or Song of the Year.

'My outlook on it is like, some years you have your year and some years you don't have your year, and maybe this year wasn't my year,' he replied.

He also said that validation for him comes from people enjoying his music, and not from awards.

Ed Sheeran is the latest big name to be added to a star-studded Celebrity Gogglebox special as part of Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK's Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

The flame-haired singer will appear alongside fellow musicians Example and Big Narstie as they give their expert commentary of the best of British television.

Me @bignarstie and @example are gonna be on Celebrity Gogglebox this friday night on Channel 4 for @standup2canceruk x

A post shared by Ed Sheeran (@teddysphotos) on

Speaking out about the announcement, Ed said: “I’m such a huge fan of Gogglebox so it’s going to be weirdly surreal to actually be part of it with two of my closest friends, but when it’s for an incredible cause like Stand Up To Cancer, how could we say no?”

The Shape of You singer joins an incredible line-up of well known faces including Liam Gallagher, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, and Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

The special episode will air this Friday, November 3 on Channel 4 at 9pm.

Meanwhile, the singer yesterday announced he will return to Asia next year after he was forced to cancel a number of gigs following a biking accident in London earlier this month.

He touched momentarily on the subject of substance abuse during his appearance on BBC's Desert Island Discs in May, but there was no doubt Ed Sheeran was keen to gloss over the topic as swiftly as possible when host Kirsty Young sought to learn more.

However, it looks like the 26-year-old may now be in a place where he feels comfortable to discuss his past issues.

While being interviewed by Jonathan Ross for the upcoming episode of the latter's chatshow, Ed elaborated on his experience, and admits that he fell victim to the same pitfalls as many stars that went before him.

"I think you need to, when you get into the industry, adjust to it — and I didn’t adjust because I was constantly working on tour," he reasoned.

"And all the pitfalls that people read about, I just found myself slipping into all of them. Mostly, like, substance abuse. I started slipping into it, and that’s why I took a year off and buggered off."

According to the Thinking Out Loud singer, who recently sustained injuries to his arm in a traffic collision, it took the intervention of others to help him realise there was an issue.

I didn’t really notice it was happening. It just started gradually happening, and then some people took me to one side and were like, ‘Calm yourself down’."

"It’s all fun to begin with, it all starts off as a party and then you’re doing it on your own and it’s not, so that was a wake-up call and taking a year off."

Acknowledging how these issues have the capacity to ruin a person's career, Ed turned his attention from the social aspect of his profession to the work itself.

“I focused on work, and I can’t work under the influence, I can’t write songs under the influence, I can’t perform under the influence."

"The more I worked the less [that happened]. I’ve worked my whole life to get to where I am and you can’t lose that over something that you do in your spare time."

Ed Sheeran has been forced to cancel a string of Asian tour dates after he sustained injuries to his arm in a bike accident in London earlier this week.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Ed revealed to fans that he'd “had a bit of a bicycle accident,” and was waiting on medical advice.

He warned that the injury may affect some of his upcoming shows, though fans remained hopeful.

It has now been confirmed that some dates on the Asian leg of his Divide tour will no longer go ahead as scheduled.

Last night, the Galway Girl singer shared a photo showing his arm in a cast, revealing that the extent of his injuries had left him unable to perform live.

The caption read: “A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future. Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong.”

It is not yet known whether more dates will be cancelled as a result, though as it stands, he is not due to perform again until March 2, 2018.

“I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS – Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged.”

We're wishing Ed a speedy recovery and thanking our lucky stars that this didn't happen before his Irish tour.

Ireland was in the throws of Ed fever three months ago, when tickets for the singer's Irish stadium tour went on sale.

The red-haired musician is playing a grand total of seven shows around Ireland, three of which are in Phoenix Park, Dublin.

According to The Irish Independent, members of Fingal County Council have requested an urgent meeting with Dublin City Council.

The residents concerns over the gigs will be raised, and the meeting will focus on potentially moving them to another location in the park, rather than at the Ashtown Gate entrance of the park where they are due to be held.

Local residents were reportedly not consulted about the concerts.

'If they have it in a more central location, for example the monument or the 15 acres, near the Papal Cross, It will be at least controllable," councillor Howard Mahoney said at a meeting of Fingal County Council.

'It's a bit like Garth Brooks. We're not objecting to the thing taking place, we just feel there is a more suitable location for it.'

'It's a huge inconvenience for residents.'

Boyzone are back!

The guys have been busy working on a very special 25th anniversary album, and it looks like they've enlisted the help of some very talented song writers.

During a recent interview, Shane Lynch revealed that Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith had both penned tracks for the boyband, but admitted that nothing was set in stone just yet.

He told The Sun: “We have gathered a number of tracks. We’re not finished yet, we are still harvesting. We have a track from Ed and one from Sam.”

The track that Sam’s written, I absolutely adore. I love the record so I hope it goes on the album.”

He added: “We are also dealing with some of the guys who worked recently with UK artists from Emeli Sande to Professor Green and Labrinth.”

Shane also told the newspaper that the album was due for release some time between September and February, and confirmed the band would embark on a tour next spring.

“It’s all happening. We’re recording pretty much whenever we can get to a studio.

“We are all floating around a bit doing individual projects — some in London, some in LA, Ronan is in and out of Australia.

“Nowadays recording is brilliant because you don’t actually have to be there, you can send files around the world.”

This will be the band's first release since their 20th anniversary album in 2013.

Ed has always been a big fan of the show, so producers jumped at the chance to have him voice a part.

'We had a perfect part for him,' executive producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly.

'So we said, "Oh, great, we’ll have him do this!" And we recorded him over the phone from England.'

Ed Sheeran made his much anticipated Game of Thrones cameo in the first episode of the seventh series  – and naturally, Twitter went into meltdown.

As we all know, Ed is an extremely talented singer-songwriter, so it was only fitting that he gave us a little tune during his short appearance on screen.

The 26-year-old was dressed as a solider and was singing around a campfire when Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, rode through a forest on horseback.

“It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before,” Arya said.

Ed's unnamed character replied, “It’s a new one.”

Masie also just so happens to be a huge Ed Sheeran fan, and according to reports, producers had been keen to get the singer on board as a surprise for the actress.

Although Ed's appearance was confirmed by the show’s creators David Benioff and DB Weiss, fans did not know what episode. Needless to say everyone was a little shook when he popped up on screen.

The Shape of You singer also took to Instagram to celebrate his cameo performance.
