Uisce Éireann and Clean Coasts are urging the public to continue to ‘Think Before You Flush’ as alarmingly a recent survey has revealed an increase in the disposal of wipes and other sanitary products down the toilet. Those aged under 35 are almost twice as likely to dispose of products down the toilet, compared to those aged over 35, and almost three times as likely compared to those over 55.

Whether labelled as 'flushable' or not, wipes should never be disposed of in toilets. With the growing popularity of year-round open water swimming, it is important to remember that our flushing habits directly affect the environment and in particular rivers and coastal areas. Making minor adjustments in our daily habits can play a crucial role in preventing sanitary waste appearing along rivers, sandy beaches, rugged shores, and hidden bays.

The campaign is also being championed by swimming and outdoor advocates who are appealing to the public to consider their habits and Think Before You Flush.

Speaking about the survey results Tom Cuddy, Uisce Éireann said: “In 2018, our research showed that 36% of people living in Ireland were regularly flushing the wrong things down the toilet. Today, we are pleased to announce that this figure has significantly decreased to 24%. While this one third decrease is certainly encouraging, it is crucial to acknowledge that it represents a slight increase compared to recent years.”

Uisce Éireann and Clean Coasts have been steadfast partners for the last seven years with a joint mission to drive the Think Before You Flush Campaign and reduce environmental impacts through behavioural change. Despite this progress, there remains a pressing concern as there are still too many people flushing the wrong items down the toilet impacting our natural and built environment.

Tom continued: “We know the awareness is there, we are just asking people to take a moment to consider their flushing habits and put litter in the bin rather than down the toilet. The impact of removing these products from our wastewater system is immense, and they unfortunately can ultimately end up on our beautiful beaches and rivers right across the country. As Uisce Éireann continues its journey of upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, it is important that we continue to work together to protect and enhance our environment. Every individual's contribution counts, and by making conscientious choices about what we flush, we can collectively make a huge difference.”

Speaking about the campaign, Sinead McCoy, Clean Coasts said: “Our message is straightforward: only the 3 Ps – pee, poo, and paper – should find their way into the toilet bowl. All other items must be placed in the bin. By following this practice, we can significantly reduce sewer blockages, minimise the risk of home and business flooding, and mitigate the environmental pollution that poses a threat to wildlife, such as fish and birds, their natural habitats and our coastlines. A minor change in our flushing behaviour can have huge benefits for our natural surroundings – simply dispose of wipes, cotton bud sticks, and sanitary items in the bin, not down the toilet.’

America Ferrera has opened up about her experience with ‘inequalities’ and an ‘imbalance in the workplace’ following the birth of her children.

America, known for her roles in Ugly Betty, Superstore and Barbie, detailed the many changes she noticed after welcoming her son and daughter into the world.

Speaking about her own experiences as well as insights from other mums around her, the 39-year-old highlighted that things ‘must change’ for working mums.

Opening up to Glamour UK, Ferrara admitted, “Since becoming a parent to my now five-year-old-son and three-year-old daughter, I’ve experienced a whole new category of imbalance in the workplace”.

“I’ve seen the inequalities that put the burden of parenting on women, the disproportionate cost of what that means to mothers and their careers, and the cultural expectations placed on women that we internalise and hold ourselves to”.

America went on to share, “I’m on multiple text chains with working moms stressing out about dilemmas like whether to go on a work trip or miss their kids’ doctor appointment”.

“Women at every level of their careers are having to make choices that cost us money, affect our mental health, our physical health, and quality of life. Our culture and our policies must change”.

Reflecting back on her own childhood, America revealed she’s had a passion for acting and helping others from a young age.

“When I was five years old, I declared to my mother that when I grew up, I wanted to be both an actress and a human rights lawyer”.

“While I already knew what I was passionate about in kindergarten, it wasn’t until many years later- well into my career as an actress- that I truly understood how these two ambitions could go hand in hand: how I could use my platform to amplify the causes I care about and use the power of storytelling to impact people’s lives for the better”.

“I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to fight injustice to incite change in this world”.

The mum-of-two also spoke about her interest in advocacy, explaining, “It is so often the women who carry so much of the responsibility to create access and opportunity. But also, it is the women who are given the least resources to achieve it”.

“So I became very passionate about democracy and elections, and that’s how I got proximate to the issues of environmental racism and access to education, reproductive freedom, and bodily autonomy”.

“All these issues mattered to me and connected to me as a woman, and as a person who wants to see the true empowerment of families and communities who are often left to fend for themselves”.

Lucy Mecklenburgh has shared a health update on her daughter Lilah after she was hospitalised.

The former The Only Way is Essex star shares Lilah with her Coronation Street star husband Ryan Thomas. The couple are also proud parents to their three-year-old son Roman.

At the beginning of the week, Lucy shared a photo of herself and her 17-month-old daughter curled up in a hospital bed and revealed her tot was unwell, meaning they couldn't go on a trip to Portugal.

Lucy and Ryan shared the good news last night that Lilah was home from the hospital and now that the little one is on the mend, Lucy has shared an insight into why her daughter was hospitalised and how she is now.

Lucy headed to her Instagram Stories to share the details to her 1.7M followers and started off by stating, “Lilah’s doing well. We’re still not 100% sure what was wrong with her. She had a really high infection marker temperature”.

“Lilah gets rigors, it’s where she shakes when she gets a temperature. She’d had it before… but yeah, we’re not entirely sure what it is. I’m waiting for her test results but she’s improving”.

“But she’s not seeming to tolerate antibiotics very well, keeps being sick on me. But she never lets you know she’s poorly because she’s such a happy little thing that sometimes it works against her because I don’t know until it gets really bad”.

The 32-year-old continued, “But she’s absolutely fine and now she’s having a nap and I’m just hoping she can keep today’s antibiotics down. Just waiting on bloods and urine results so we have a bit of a clearer picture of what it was”.

“In herself now she’s fine anyway but yeah it’s just been full on. The most important things she’s on the mend and she’s definitely like 100% better than she was a few days ago so that’s really good news".

Lucy went on to say, “It’s just one of those things and she’s fine now, that’s the main thing. So we were all meant to be in Portugal now which is slightly gutting. It’s like a family holiday but also work for me because it’s my first Results retreat out there”.

“I’m rearranging and going as soon as Lilah’s fully better and we’re all going to head out there so that’ll be really lovely”, she added before posting a sweet video of Lilah and her playing together.

When the mum-of-two first revealed her tot was spending time in hospital, she took to social media to explain, “Meant to be boarding a plane now to @rwlresultsretreats in Portugal but this little one had other ideas”.

“Everyone on the @rwl retreat this week, have the most amazing time! I'm very jealous, the itinerary, menu and team is incredible. Hoping to join when Lilah is all better. Now I just need to focus on giving her lots of mummy cuddles and getting her back to feeling healthy and well”.

Britney Spears has been opening up about her ‘soul-crushing’ conservatorship.

In November 2021, the Toxic singer was freed as her conservatorship came to an end. The popstar had been living under the conditions for nearly 14 years, and she has since accused her father and others of exploiting her during that time.

Now, in an interview with People ahead of the release of her memoir, titled The Woman In Me, Britney has opened up about how she has been adjusting to her new life.

“Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me. After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life,” the 41-year-old explained.

The Oops! I Did It Again hitmaker then went on to confess that her “soul-crushing” conservatorship is still “hard to speak about.”

“Not getting a moment of peace, the judgments from strangers who don't even know me, having my freedom stripped away from me by my family and the government [and] losing my passion for the things I love,” she recalled.

However, there were glimpses of joy during Britney’s earlier years, as she became a mum to her two children – Sean Preston (18) and Jayden James (17). Her sons now live with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, but they remain in contact with her.

“Starting a family was my dream come true. Being a mom was my dream come true,” Britney gushed.

Lastly, the superstar revealed that she hopes that her story will encourage others to “speak up. Be loud. Know your worth. Inspire people and most of all, just be kind.”

“It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me. No more conspiracy, no more lies — just me owning my past, present and future,” Britney concluded.

Richard Curtis has admitted he has regrets over some of his most popular films.

The filmmaker, who is best known for romantic comedy hits such as About Time, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill, has faced growing criticisms in recent years.

In particular, Curtis has been called out for undiverse casting and body shaming jokes in several of his films.

Credit: Working Title

In the 2003 Christmas hit Love Actually, which Curtis wrote and directed, body shaming is a running gag throughout the film, but particularly towards Martine McCutcheon’s character Natalie.

During one scene, Natalie admits to Hugh Grant’s character that her ex-boyfriend recently dumped her because “no one’s going to fancy a girl with thighs the size of big tree trunks.” She is also referred to as “chubby” by several ensemble characters.

Meanwhile, in Curtis’ screenplay for Bridget Jones’ Diary, Renée Zellweger is described as having a “bottom the size of Brazil”, with constant references to her body size and weight.

At The Times and The Sunday Times’ Cheltenham Literature Festival on Sunday, Curtis was interviewed by his daughter Scarlett. During the conversation, the 28-year-old activist and writer confronted her father about the “growing criticism around the ways your films treated women and people of colour”.

“I remember how shocked I was five years ago when Scarlett said to me: ‘You can never use the word “fat” again.’ Wow, you were right. In my generation, calling someone chubby [was funny] – in Love Actually there were jokes about that. Those jokes aren’t any longer funny,” he confessed.

Scarlett later brought up criticisms surrounding Curtis’ 1999 movie Notting Hill, in which none of its main cast members were people of colour.

“Yes, I wish I’d been ahead of the curve,” Curtis admitted in response. “Because I came from a very undiverse school and bunch of university friends, I think that I’ve hung on, on the diversity issue, to the feeling that I wouldn’t know how to write those parts.”

“I think I was just sort of stupid and wrong about that,” he concluded.

Zara McDermott has revealed how her ongoing stint on Strictly Come Dancing is impacting her relationship with Sam Thompson!

The former Love Island star is currently in the lineup for this year’s Strictly series, and is partnered up with professional dancer Graziano di Prima.

As she continues her run on the hit BBC dancing show, Zara has now opened up about how Strictly has been changing her daily life, including her relationship with Made In Chelsea star Sam.

In an interview with OK!, the 26-year-old was asked how Sam has been coping with the intensity of her training schedule.

“I feel like there’s just a level of understanding from every side that Strictly is all encompassing, and it has to be if you want to do well in the competition,” Zara explained.

“You have to put the hours into training. You have to be really dedicated. Even when I get home, I’m watching my routine over and over again. Sam is amazing, he literally watches with me and I show him videos from the day,” she praised.

The documentary maker then went on to detail how her romance with Sam constantly changes with ‘balance’.

“I think relationships are not always completely balanced. Sometimes someone needs a bit more support, sometimes the other one does – and that’s how I see relationships in general to be honest. It’s all about communication, you know? You only get to do Strictly once!” she exclaimed.

In their joint interview, Graziano – who married his wife Giada last July – also took the opportunity to note that Zara has bonded with his own loved ones.

“She’s part of my family. I think she sends more messages to my wife than me,” he joked.

“We are part of each other’s families and each other’s lives, and I think we will be for the foreseeable,” Zara agreed, adding: “You build such a close bond and partnership, you get to know each other so quickly that it’s like a really unbreakable bond.”

Fans of Love is Blind have been sharing their opinions after Uche revealed why he wasn’t at the season 5 reunion.

The reunion episode of the hit dating show landed on Netflix on October 16, where viewers could see how the contestants were doing a year and a half after they were on the show.

While the rest of the final cast attended the reunion to be grilled about their relationships, or lack thereof, by Nick and Vanessa, Uche was notably missing.

While it was not revealed exactly why he didn’t appear at the reunion during the episode, the 34-year-old took to social media to explain his absence.

Opening up to his 62.4K Instagram followers on his Stories, Uche posted a photo from a plane and wrote, “Unfortunately I was unable to attend the reunion due to being out of town on a business trip”.

“As an entrepreneur, building my company is a big part of my life and it's taken me 7 years to get where I am now. My time is finite and there was an incredible opportunity that I could not risk missing to record a TV show”.

The lawyer went on to add, “However, accountability is important to me. I have watched the reunion and there are several things that I will be addressing soon”.

“You will not be left without answers, I promise”, he added.

Fans were divided by Uche’s explanation, with many sharing their thoughts about his excuse on X, formally known as Twitter.

One viewer wrote, “I think they should all come back for the reunion, it should be written in as part of the show that they must appear at the reunion”.

“He said he’s an entrepreneur and had business travel instead of being on a TV show, but sir you had time to on this series??? But no time for the reunion”, penned another fan.

A third said, “Netflix needs to make it a contractual obligation to show up to the reunion. Uche shouldn’t be allowed to skip the reunion”.

“I was looking forward for the reunion drama but was disappointed”, added another viewer.

During the reunion episode, Uche was mentioned when Aaliyah questioned Lydia about whether or not she and Uche had planned to be on the show together as they had previously dated in real life.

Aaliyah, who chose to leave the series early when she found out about Uche and Lydia’s past, said, “You told multiple women you were hoping to run into somebody from your past”.

“We had a conversation, one on one, outside of filming, where you told me that you and Uche discussed coming on this show”.

Lydia admitted, “We had a conversation of two seconds in November 2021. ‘Oh yeah, I saw the casting. Oh yeah, I did too’. And that was it”.

“I had, and I'm going to say it really clearly for the public, I had no confirmation that Uche was going to be there”, Lydia highlighted.
