Congratulations are in order today for actress Amy Smart who has welcomed her first child.

The 40-year-old former Shameless actress took to social media to announce the good news sharing a picture of her with husband, Carter Oosterhouse and their new baby girl saying:

“It is with great gratitude and pleasure we welcome our little girl Flora to the world. What a blessed way to bring in 2017. Amen and thank you God for this special new life.”

Amy and Carter married back in 2011 and have managed to keep their lives fairly private.

And the same was said for their newborn, many saying they didn’t know the actress was pregnant until she announced the birth.

Some fans said his decision to speak publicly about the moment he found George Michael dead was, so soon after his passing, in bad taste.

And today, Fadi Fawez courted yet more controversy – stating in an incredible series of tweets that the 53-year-old pop superstar was suicidal and had made attempts to take his own life before.

The tweets have now been deleted and the account shut.

However, the London-based hairdresser, who had been in a relationship with George since 2012, is adamant that he is the victim of a hacker.

Fadi told Mirror Online: "I am shocked with what's going on with the Twitter thing. My Twitter account has been hacked and closed."

He added: "It's a bit scary to be honest. I did not send those tweets. I woke up at 11.30am to the news. I am not going to worry about these things."

The shocking tweets had earlier read: "The only thing George wanted is to die.

"He tried numbers of times to kill himself many times… and finally he managed.

"We loved each other very much and were together almost 24 hours a day.

Less than 24 hours after George Michael's Christmas Day passing, Mr Fawez tweeted that he had found him dead in his bed.

The cause of his death has been cited by police as heart failure, although further toxicology testing is now being carried out.

Mariah Carey has done it again, in yet another woeful performance which was blamed on ‘technical issues’.

Crowds gathered last night at Times Square, New York for Dick Clarke’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve hosted by Ryan Seacrest to hear the star sing.

Even surrounded by feathers, it was clear something wasn’t right with the lip sync as the star sang Auld Lang Syne.

Recognising the issue, Carey said “Well, Happy New Year! We can’t hear, but I’ll just get through the moment, okay.”

After strutting awkwardly across the stage, waiting for the issue to be rectified the star resolved to let the crowd sing before carrying on.

The mortified Carey finished by saying “That was… Amazing”.

She later brushed off the debacle in a tweet, “Shit happens. Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here's to making more headlines in 2017.”

Let us not forget what happened in 2014 at the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Centre.

This was apparently due to ‘circumstances beyond her control’.

New Year’s Eve is a time for reflection and resolution – with many setting themselves impossible or unachievable goals.

The usual resolutions on everyone’s lists being to join the gym, eat better, save more…blah-blah, blah.

Stuff that! Here’s seven resolutions everyone should make this year:

1. Travel more

Sometimes a holiday is just AMAZING and with air fares cheaper than ever, you have no excuse not to jet off. But if you can’t get away, hop in the car, on a bus or a train and go see somewhere new. Remember ‘A change is as good as a rest’.

2. Complain less

We all have the tendency to act like Moaning-Myrtle. And while venting can offer momentary relief from the situation, when you look around you there are people worse off than you being stuck in traffic or not having the latest gadget.

You actually have it pretty good, so be happy with what you have and if you’re truly not, then maybe it’s time to change that well-paying soul-sucking desk job for something you really enjoy? Money can’t buy happiness.

3. Be Selfish

We all need to treat others with kindness. But we forget sometimes to be kind to ourselves. Mark Sutton says, “It's not selfish to do what is best for you”.

Learning to say no and spending more time doing the things you love instead of obligation will make you feel…free.

4. Do more of what you love

If you love reading but don’t have the time, make time. If you enjoy running or walking, get outdoors and go for a stroll – fit it in on your lunch break if you don’t have the time before or after work.

If you enjoy eating but are trying to get in shape, cut yourself some slack and just look for healthier options. But if you REALLY want to eat the cake, eat the cake.

5. Try something new

If you have put that Hot Yoga class off for a while, now’s the time to go for it. Stop letting those unread books pile up, take five make a cuppa and turn the page.

Sick of your friend talking about all those marathons they’ve completed? Get up off that sofa and get jogging – there are so many apps, such as Runkeeper, available to guide you in your endeavours – seize the day.

6. Spend more time with the people who build you up

If you find yourself surrounded by negative people, cut them loose. Spending time constantly surrounded by negativity can bring you down and have harmful effects on how you view yourself. Find people who have similar interests and beliefs, or offer inspiration.

Surrounding yourself with positive people will help you feel good about yourself, increase your confidence and self-worth.

7. Put that phone/ iPad away and get out doors

This is truly the technological age and it has its benefits. But with all of our gadgets and devices, we sometimes forget that there is also a world outside.

There are so many beautiful sights to see like the deer roaming freely in the Phoenix Park, Dublin; Glendalough Lake, Wicklow; the Cliffs of Moher, Clare; even going for a stroll in your local park for 30 minutes can clear the cobwebs.

Make this your most fabulous year yet!

A tourist boat carrying about 200 people has caught fire this morning off the coast of Indonesia.

According to RTE News, many of the passengers have since been rescued, however 23 people were killed and a number injured in the blaze.

The boat (Zahro Express) was travelling a mere 50km journey north of Jakarta to Tidung Island at the time.

A spokesperson for the Thousand Island Police, Ferry Budiharso, said that a short-circuit in the boats power generator is to blame for the fire which started shortly after leaving the Jakartan port, Muara Angke.

It has been reported that officials are still trying to “determine” exactly how many people were travelling on the vessel.

RTE has reported that the number of sea accidents in Indonesia are “frequent” due to overloading and not enough life vests onboard.
