Monthly Archives: March 2016

Yes, say what you want about kindness and decency and all that, but we still maintain that chocolate is NOT for sharing.

Especially Easter chocolate, which is why we're very pleased indeed with Lindt's latest offering.

If your Easter Sunday isn't complete without beheading (and be-footing) a Lindt bunny, then be sure to safeguard your stash this year by having it personalised.

Starting from today, March 7, Brown Thomas is offering a personalisation service with the purchase of all 200g Lindt bunnies (€6).

The name or word of your choice will be printed in Lindt's signature gold font on the bunny's red ribbon. Adorable.

You can keep it above board, like Glenda and Elisha, or you can write something more to-the-point like GET YOUR DIRTY HANDS OFF THIS, YOU SOULLESS THIEF.*

Find out more – and purchase your personalised bunny – on the Living Floor, Level 3, Brown Thomas Dublin.

*You probably can't write that.

It has been yonks since Eminem has come out with new material, but his latest move is something we never really expected.

The rapper announced that he is re-issuing his 1999 album Slim Shady in CASSETTE form… Em, what?

More than ten years has passed since the album debuted and while it's great and all (don't get us wrong, we loveee Slim Shady), we just don't understand what the deal is with the old-school technology.

Fans can sign up to a mailing list to receive early access to the release… But can't we just look it up on Youtube?

Anyway, we're not the only ones a bit miffed by the news, and his fans took to Twitter to speak out:

One Direction fans, and more specifically, Harry Styles fans seem to be obsessed with his ever growing hair. And while we're cool with him growing it to whatever length he fancies, we're not so fond of the little mustache he's sporting at the moment.

The singer is spending the band's hiatus chilling with friends and keeping a low profile, but while he was out at the weekend, fans noticed a slight difference.

The hair on his upper lip is super light and maybe he just wasn't bothered shaving for a few days but we're hoping and praying this isn't a permanent thing.

Come on Harry, don't hide that baby face we've grown to love.

Storm Keating may have been born with a model-ready name, but if things had gone differently we'd be calling her something very different indeed.

The Aussie beauty took to Instagram just now to defend herself after some controversy around her "real" name cropped up on 2fm this morning.

During an interview with 2fm's Breakfast Republic host Jennifer Maguire, RTÉ's weather queen Teresa Mannion dropped the bombshell that Storm's real name might not in fact be the one we've always known her by.

"When I was doing Good Morning Australia, the presenters were chatting to me during the break and they were saying, ‘Do you kow Ronan Keating?'” she said, according to Goss.ie.

"He’s married to an Australian’ and I said ‘Oh yeah, Storm’ and they said that’s not her real name. There was a little bit of bitchiness there.”

After some Google sleuthing, Jennifer suggested on air that Storm's name might in fact be (the far less glamourous) Sharyn.

Now, Storm's setting the record straight – yes her first name IS Sharyn, but she's always gone by her middle name.

She even went so far as to post a copy of her birth cert – which does indeed list her name as Sharyn Storm Uechtritz – to prove it.

"My birth certificate for @JenniferMaguire and anyone else who is curious about my name," the model wrote.

"My parents took the name 'Storm' from one of the novels in Wilbur Smith's first trilogy (a famous South African journalist) because they loved it and have called me Storm since I was born.

"They made my first name 'Sharyn' because they were worried that people might make fun of me… turns out they were right.

"The use of middle names is not uncommon," she finished, going on to list other celebs – including Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher, Bruce Willis, Rihanna and Will Ferrell – who've ditched their first names.

If you want to hear more, it might be worth tuning into 2fm tomorrow morning, at least if Jennifer gets her way:

Touché.

Have any plans for March 16?

Well you do now – if luck is in your favour, that is.

In honour of St Patrick's Day, Jameson Irish Whiskey and Hot Press are bringing three Irish bands to Dublin as part of their Bow St Sessions. Kodaline, Little Hours and Walking On Cars will perform a once-off March 16 "homecoming" gig at The Academy, along with Toronto natives July Talk.

The best part? The whole thing is FREE, but you'll have to be chosen from a lottery in order to get your hands on a pair.

You can apply for tickets here, but applications close at 3pm today, March 7, so you had better hurry on.

Jameson's live music sessions usually take place at their well-known Bow St Distillery in Smithfield, but the gig is moving to The Academy this time to accommodate a larger audience.

Let us know on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram if you're lucky enough to get tickets!

He may have lost a fight over the weekend, but he's still our champion.

Everyone from Justin Bieber to Niall Horan and Bruno Mars shared their disappointment that Conor lost his fight, but that doesn't stop the Irishman from spreading his love.

Yep, the MMA fighter has teamed up with Busweiser in order to make someone's dream come true.

The beverage company is offering a prize of €50,000 to give someone a chance of taking their passion to new and exciting territory.

Conor announced the details of Busweiser Dream Big in a short video and is calling upon his Irish supporters to take part.

“Budweiser Dream Big is about chasing your dreams. I believe it’s very important not just to have dreams, but to recognise what your dream is and what you are passionate about, and never give up on your dream,” said Conor.

“To those who are looking to win this competition, show up, speak passionately about where you want to go, who you want to meet, and the person with the most passion and dedication to their craft will shine through. So make sure to dream big.”

Congrats are in order for one of our fave Nineties popstars today, as H from Steps has become a first-time dad.

H, who these days goes by his full name of Ian H Watkins, welcomed twin sons in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The new arrivals were born via a surrogate, with Ian and his partner Craig taking to social media to share their delight – and a first picture.

"We are DADS! We are totally & utterly in Love! #Twins" Ian wrote on Twitter, alongside a snap of two hospital bracelets labelled "Baby 'A' Boy" and "Baby 'B' Boy."

A, B, C and H? Here's hoping the new dads come up with something a little more lengthy than that when deciding their sons' official first names.

The couple first revealed their happy baby news back in December, via an animated YouTube video.

After their first surrogate tragically suffered a miscarriage back in 2012, it's no surprise Ian and Craig waited until the pregnancy was six months along this time around.

Speaking shortly after the miscarriage happened four years ago, Ian said the news had been a huge blow to him and Craig.

"We were thinking of names, and we even planned our first Christmas as a family. We were both ready to be dads, " he told The People.

Huge congrats to Ian and Craig on their very happy ending. We can't wait to see a first family photo…

Starbucks, the multinational coffee retailer is causing a lot of controversy in Cork city at the moment.

The coffee shop recently opened three new stores across Cork on St Patrick's Street, Princess Street and Emmet Place.

They were all opened in commercial units which were previously retail shops, and the planning authority has since said that the company should have applied for planning permission to change the use of the stores before it opened.

The decision comes five months after a planning dispute between Cork County Council and Starbucks was referred to An Bord Pleanála.

The County Council claimed that Starbucks should have changed the use of premises from a retail premises, while the coffee shop argued that most people take away their drinks, and thus the operation in nature is retail.

However, An Bord Pleanála has taken the council's side, and said that in all three cases “the scale, nature and layout of the coffee shop is more akin to a restaurant use which is expressly excluded from the definition of ‘shop’.”

Sorry, Starbucks. You lost out on this one.

Dogs are cute. Kids are cute. Put them together and we're absolutely melting

But one little girl decided she wanted to be a doctor for a day and gave her pooch a very thorough examination.

She checked everything from blood pressure, to her paws and her ears – and we have to say, that is one very patient animal.

The pet just sat there and let the little girl work away. But judging from the end of the video, there's another pooch in the background looking for her 'doctor' skills too.

We just feel like giving them both hugs right now.

Rumours of Charmed coming back began to surface last year, and now one of our favourite witches has confirmed it.

Alyssa Milano who played Phoebe in the series about three sisters who were witches said that a reboot is definitely happening, but as for the original cast – it doesn't look good.

Taking to her Facebook page, Alyssa said: "#Charmed fans! Nothing has been confirmed. CBS is developing a reboot without the original cast. That's all I know for sure."

Charmed ran for a total of eight seasons and came to an end in 2006.

We just hope the new sisters are as good as the old ones.
