love/hate

When Tom Vaughan-Lawlor first appeared on our screens as Love/Hate baddie Nidge we knew the Dundrum native was something special, and now it seems Oscar nominee Bryan Cranston agrees.

The Breaking Bad lead has described Tom as “dangerously talented” after getting to know the Trinity graduate while working with him on their upcoming movie The Infiltrator.

Brian told The Irish Sun: “Tom was a dream to work with. An absolute dream. Immensely talented, I’d go as far to say, dangerously talented.”

He said: “[Tom’s] sensibilities and his instincts were always on point. He’s chameleonic in his performance.”

“It was a masterclass and he will conquer wherever and whatever he does in the future.”

“And not to mention, [he was] a genuinely lovely warm guy. But that’s what you always get with the Irish.”  Awh Brian, you sure know how to say the right things!

The Infiltrator is based on the true story of a US agent who went undercover to break down Pablo Escobar's famous drug trafficking gang.

The movie is set for released this September.

Irish actor Stephen Clinch is facing four and a half years in prison after an armed robbery at the Gate Hotel on Parnell Street.

The 49-year-old, who is best known for his role as Noely on the popular RTE drama series Love/Hate, reportedly robbed over €50 thousand from the premises in May of last year.

According to witnesses, the Kilbarrack native held a gun to the head of a security worker who was collecting money from the hotel's bar.

The court was told that Stephen suffered from an addiction to heroin though claimed to be clean of the drug for over nine years.

The father-of-three has 17 robberies and 13 burglaries on his criminal record, though all of these offences occurred before 2005.

"I thought I had my life back on track," said the Dublin man to Gardaí when he was arrested.

Character witnesses, that included singer Damien Dempsey, producer of Love/Hate series Stuart Carolan and film director Mark O' Connor, vouched that Stephen was reliable and gave back to his local community.

Stephen claimed he resorted to the robbery as he was in a large debt after a consignment of drugs he had been given to hide were discovered by authorities.

The actor's fictional character Noely was infamously involved in the shocking prison assault on Fran using a pool cue that ended season five of the show.

Fran is tying the knot!

Congrats are in order for Love/Hate star Peter Coonan, who is reportedly engaged to his long-term girlfriend Kim O'Driscoll.

The couple have one child together, Beth, who was born last May. Preferring to keep his private life to himself, Peter took a full month to reveal his daughter's name to the media. And with that in mind, it's no surprise that Peter is keeping his cards close to his chest about his upcoming wedding.

Speaking shortly after Kim's pregnancy was announced last year, Peter said the couple were overjoyed to become parents together for the first time.

"Obviously we’re really delighted and have only just shared the news with family and close friends," he told the Irish Independent. “We’re just enjoying this special time and looking forward to the future.”

After finishing up on Love/Hate in late 2014, Peter starred in Get Up And Go alongside his former co-star Killian Scott. He'll also take to the stage at The Gate Theatre next month to perform in Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge.

To keep his nerves at bay he's been channelling his late mother, an amateur actress who appeared in the same play decades ago.

"Everything connects back to my mother, which is weird," he told the Herald. "The script I've been working off is the one she used when she played the part of Beatrice. For a lot of the classic plays I've done, I've used my mum's old scripts, which have her highlighter all over it."

No doubt Peter's new fiancée will be in the front row cheering him on.

27-year old Love/Hate star Susan Loughnane became victim to a scam when she tried to book a holiday in the sun.

Known to any fans of the series as Debbie, Susan had tried to place a deposit for a house in the Algarve in southern Portugal when she realised her messages had never reached the owner.

Trying to book her sunshine break through rental firm Owners Direct she realised she had been hit by a scam.

The Mirror reports the actress said she had paid €500 for a villa in the popular holiday spot, but she said that her correspondence with the company had been intercepted by a scam artist who attempted to steal her information.

She said about the scam, “when we got in touch with the owner of the villa recently after paying the deposit, he'd never heard of us and said he didn't have a booking."

She took to twitter on Monday to address the company directly and received a reply within an hour.

The redhead was due to spend 10 days soaking up the sun and has said she’s been offered different accommodation by the company. Unfortunately she says the accommodation offered was too expansive compared to what she had tried to book first.

The holiday was supposed to be sunshine filled getaway for her and fiancé David Doyle, the pair announced their engagement earlier this year.

Susan is also set to star in the new series of Hardy Bucks later on this year.

Any Ed Sheeran video is generally enough to make anyone’s Monday a little bit better.

When you add in King Nidge to the equation then things reach another level. Over the weekend the pair bumped into each other in London and couldn’t resist teasing fans with their antics.

Before we got totally excited altogether though, it turns out the pair were big fans of each other and Ed really wanted to hear Nidge speak in person.

One celebrity friendship we weren’t expecting this morning.

The duo were hanging out together between Ed’s sell-out Wembley Stadium concerts. Love/Hate star Tom Vaughan Lawlor pulled out his best Nidge character to get Ed giggling.

Nidgey

A video posted by @teddysphotos on

"Alright man, here with the main man Ed, about to go out and watch him on the show, can't wait for it", the fictional crime boss tells us.

"Nidgey, I have a bone to pick with him", was mega-fan Ed’s response.

When Ed posted the video to his Instagram page though, his fans were a little confused.

"Yes it is English, it's a thick Dublin accent", one user had to explain to some non-Irish Ed Sheeran fans who were left a bit baffled by Tom’s accent.

Meanwhile, independent.ie reports that some fans of Ed’s were left less than impressed when their tickets to his concert almost didn’t arrive on time.

Some had bought their tickets at Christmas time and were left with a message from Get Me In, run by Ticketmaster, to say they would not be arriving.

Fans were offered refunds instead but many took to Twitter to voice they disappointment. One Irish user complained of having no ticket for the concert and having booked flights to London and accommodation for the gig.

Former Love/Hate star Susan Loughnane had a double whammy of celebrations this week!

The flame-haired actress not only celebrated her 28th birthday with friends in New York, but her boyfriend of ten years David Doyle also popped the question.

Susan shared the news by posting a series of celebratory pictures on Instagram, one of which included her holding a glass of bubbly while flashing her delicate sapphire ring.

Gorgeous! Susan, who played John Boy's girlfriend Debbie in the hit RTÉ series, later shared a picture of herself and David kissing, captioning it "engagement photo booth."

Very cute.

David and Susan have been together since their teens, but much of that time has been a long-distance relationship, with David based in Shannon, Co. Clare as an air traffic controller, and Susan working between Dublin, London and now New York.

Susan seemed delighted to have David and her friends around her as she celebrated turning 28 in NY this week, posting a picture of the festivities with a message reading, "I'm turning 28 this weekend. I've never ever resented becoming a year older and I hope I never do… Now I am in New York on the next leg of my journey and every moment is a joy and a gift. I may not have a mortgage or a pension but I feel free as a bird."

As well as her success as an actress, Susan published her first novel, The Art of Scandal, last year. Despite wanting to further her career in New York and London, Susan has spoken before about wanting to pack it all in and move to Clare with David. "I want to live there. I'm counting down the days until I can, but then there is the part of me that still wants to push ahead with career things," she told the Irish Independent late last year.

We wonder where the happy couple will end up… congratulations guys!

Love/Hate star Aoibheann McGinnity has sparked rumours of a romance with none other than Chris Moyles!

The pair were spotted in Dublin’s city centre yesterday evening, not long after Chris was seen attending Aoibheann’s most recent gig, Elf The Musical back in December.

Back in September, Aoibheann, who played Trish in the crime drama, said that she was single not long after being linked to The Coronas' Danny O'Reilly.

Chris is best known for his radio show on BBC Radio 1, The Chris Moyles Show which wrapped back in 2012. He was previously in an eight-year relationship with Sophie Waite before they split in 2010.

Could this be the beginning of something for Aoibheann and Chris? Time will tell!

Get ready to be disappointed as it has been confirmed that Love/Hate will NOT be returning next year!

That’s right we won’t be finding out the fate of some of our favourite characters any time soon – but that doens’t mean never!

RTÉ's Head of Drama, Jane Gogan, confirmed the news that Ireland’s favourite crime drama (or TV show ever for that matter) won’t be on the schedule for next year, but did add: “A sixth series is currently in development with the writer and creator Stuart Carolan and Octagon Films."

"It’s just a week since the series finale aired and RTÉ, the producers and Stuart feel it’s important to take time and reflect before going to production with a sixth season"

"As a public service broadcaster RTÉ’s principal concern is always the audience and the creative dynamic of a drama and we all want to ensure the writing, preparation and production of a subsequent series mirrors the high standards Love/Hate viewers have come to expect overt the past five seasons."

While we may be bitterly disappointed we’ll have to wait until 2016 (we hope!) to see what happens next after THAT last episode, it sounds like Stuart and the producers have decided against making a series for the sake of popularity – which we love!

Roll on 2016!

If you haven't watched last night's season finale of Love/Hate then what are you doing here?! You're about to read the entire episode in GIF's which, trust us, does it no justice!

If you did watch it, then like us, you may have had an emotionally turbulent time between 10.15-10.30pm last night…

We're still recovering.

Here are the reactions we experienced during last night's episode of Love/Hate:

1. When we were waiting for the action to happen for like, 45 minutes…

2. When poor Janeh got tortured with a saw and we realised Aardn would never get that ‘word’ from Nidge he’d been promised for about six months

3. When we realised Fran wasn’t going to get to kill Nidge after all…

4. When Noely said he was going to ‘smash’ Fran’s back door in…

5. When we realised what he actually meant by that and the pool cue was snapped in half…

6. Everything that happened in that scene after that…

7. When Nadine said she wasn't a prostitute and Ado thoroughly disagreed

8. When Donna called Siobhán ‘chicken’ for the ten millionth time…

9. When Detective Moynihan ate Nidge's tax disc…

10. When we realised we haven't heard Tommy talk in about a year…

11. When Siobhán started shouting at Nidge and wouldn’t stop and Warren wouldn’t go inside

12. When Patrick arrived on the scene and all hell broke loose…

13. When Siobhán lay bleeding (but STILL breathing people!)

14. When Patrick shot Nidge twice (but not once in the head, people!) and Warren was watching, rather calmly we might add

15. When it ended and we realised it would be another year before we find out if King Nidge has lived, if Donna would ever see her chicken alive again, if Fran will ever play a round of pool again and if Leighton would ever get out of that feckin’ apartment and into some fresh air

16. When we decided it was the best episode yet and how much we cannot wait for season six…

Most of Ireland tuned into Love/Hate last night for what proved to be a very eventful episode all together – the best in the series so far some are saying!

And it seems the actors on the show were anticipating a great response, as they gathered to watch the episode together.

Laurence Kinlan, who plays Elmo in the hit series, shared a photo on his Twitter account showing some members of the cast watching the episode together at House on Dublin’s Leeson Street.

Spotted in the snap were Charlie Murphy (Siobhán), Laurence Kinlan (Elmo), Peter Coonan (Fran), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Nidge), Lynn Rafferty (Nadine) and Ian Llyod Anderson (Dean) as well as others.

Laurence later confirmed that even the case reckoned it was one of the best episodes yet as he tweeted: “Wow!! Thoughts?? We all loved that, the room was buzzing. If you’ve learned anything tonight, it’s not to believe the newspapers #lovehate.”

We cannot WAIT for next week!

It’s baaaack!

RTÉ have released a teaser for the fifth season of Love/Hate and it is looking uh-mazing!

We can’t wait to catch up with Fran, Nidge and the lads to check out what they’ve been up to for the summer.

Sunning themselves in Kilkee eating some 99’s, perhaps?

A nice quiet tour of the O’Connor Pass?

Somehow, we doubt it.
