In an age of television that is still blatantly anti-LGBTQ+, one reality show rises above the rest. Love Island, in our view, didn't get enough criticism for it's heteronormativity among other flaws.

Representation of queer people remains massively lacking, especially on reality TV where most people involved are of the same weight, race, age and sexual orientation. They look filtered, pretty much.

MTV's latest series of Are You The One? is back for season eight, but with a beautiful twist: every one of the cast members are sexually fluid. Thank the good Lord, it's what we've been waiting for.

This glittery MTV show will fill the empty void of your life now that Love Island has ended. 16 singles from all over the US have flown to Hawaii for the summer to try and find love, without gender limits.

“Welcome to the most ambitious matchmaking experiment ever attempted,” said host Ryan Devlin. The cash prize is a little more than the ITV dating show…try $1 million.

The contestants have 10 weeks, and 10 match-up (recoupling) ceremonies to try and find out who their perfect match is. All 16 contestants are fair game, so it's far more challenging this time around.

Topics surrounding gender identity and sexuality will be approached, and progressive narratives that the LGBTQ community wholeheartedly deserve.

Competitions, dates and truth booths will be part and parcel of the experience every week, but drama, fights, heartbreak, sex and juicy content ensues as a result.

The 2019 cast's perfect matches are discovered through a dating algorithm, based on a vigorous process involving comprehensive interviews, IQ and personality tests, interviews with family, friends and exes.

“The matchmakers got pretty deep into all of the contestants’ past relationship history, so they would do these interviews with the contestants and their family, friends, and exes. All that information was combined and analysed,” executive producer Tiffany Williams revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

The discourse surrounding gender identity still needs to be opened up further, and queer representation is a great place to start. Awareness and education about sexuality can be provided through the medium of reality TV (Drag Race changed the damn GAME).

“It’s still a fun, drama-filled salacious ridiculous reality show but it’s now got a social message underneath it,” Executive producer Rob LaPlante stated in an interview with Variety.

MTV have provided a relationship expert, Dr Frankie, who specialises in working with the LGBTQ community. Proper mental health support is 100 percent needed throughout the process and afterward.

Seeing as much of the drama is usually constructed, many fans have expressed concerns for queer people being exploited for entertainment. MTV appear to be deconstructing heteronormative conversations in a positive way, however. We adore the inclusive cast.

Are You The One? season eight airs on MTV at 10pm every Monday. Grab that queer content by the rainbow.

"When I told Simon, he encouraged me to speak to my mum, who was in LA with me in a hotel at the time.

Former Love Island contestant and model Megan Barton Hanson has come out as bisexual (hey, Pride month is June after all…) and opened up about falling in love with women.

Speaking candidly to The Sun, the reality star said she feels 'deeper connections' with women, and claims that she auditioned unsuccessfully for the show in 2017, but believes that being open about her bisexuality 'put them off' casting her.

"I just felt like I needed to get with a guy because society said so but after the shit I've been through, I just want to see how it goes with a woman." Fair play, gal. You do you.

The star was coupled up with former beau Wes Anderson, but the pair have since split up. Though she never spoke about women on the show, she has had love in her life with those of the opposite sex:

"I first fell in love with a girl when I was 16, but it wasn't even in a sexual way. I never saw her just in that way, but we'd like hang out, and one thing led to another.

"We would do everything together. I found her more and more attractive, and not even the way she looked, just like the way she was in general," she continued.

She added: "I've slept with girls, but I've never had long term romances with girls. It's not just a sexual thing for me, I feel like I have a deeper connection with women…

"I think long-term I would get with a woman, but it's hard. I really want kids, so that's something I'd need to look into when the time comes," she expanded.

Megan was also asked about her audition for the infamous ITV2 show, and she claims:  "I was super open and said I feel like I'm more into girls, but I think that's what put them off in 2017."

She went on to reference her 2018 audition, which led to her casting;

"In Love Island I already felt I had a stigma attached to me because of being a stripper. I didn't want to like add to it by revealing I like girls as well!

"But now I feel like everyone has accepted that and to be honest, I don't care what people think. I'm 25, I want to find someone, maybe not the one, but the one for now," she said.

In terms of looking for a partner for life, Megan said: "I want to find someone to travel with and enjoy life with, so I feel like I just need to be a bit brave now and say it how it is.

"It's so easy to let fear of people's opinions stop you from being true to yourself."

The model felt under pressure "by society" to reveal her sexuality and claims that she's decided to come out now because the public can still be negative and narrow-minded about sexual identity.

"If it's right, you've got one life, live it, enjoy life," she said. "Just live. Although we're much more open-minded and less judgmental now, there is still a lot of judging around people's sexuality.

"If you have any type of platform I think it's important to use it for people who don't have a voice.

"There's a lot of people who fear they can't come out – but the more it's spoken about the more it becomes less of a thing."

Bella Thorne has been very open about her sexual orientation, after telling the world via Twitter last year.

The former Disney star has also shared snaps of herself kissing both women and men, and has never been afraid to be unequivocally herself when it comes to her sexuality.

However, the actress has opened up to Stylecaster to discuss her struggles with dating women.

A post shared by tanamongeau (@tanamongeau) on

'It's so hard,' Bella told Stylecaster.

'I can't tell if a girl is trying to be best friends with me or if she wants to get with me or if she just wants social media followers.'

Bella also told the online mag that she ends up dating men more frequently than women, as she never knows if potential female partners are being flirtatious or just want to be pals.

A post shared by BELLA (@bellathorne) on

'I don't want to make a move, and then you be like, ‘Whoa, girl. Not what I was thinking, I don't roll that way.' Then it's so awkward.' she told StyleCaster.

'So I end up usually dating more guys, because with guys, I know if a guy's hitting me up.'

'They're not just texting me to be my bestie. I know they want something, of some sort.'

A post shared by BELLA (@bellathorne) on

'If I like somebody, they know. It doesn’t matter if you’re a guy or a girl.'

Bella also spoke out about her difficulties dating women in the show biz industry, as many of them are not out yet, and so refuse to go on dates.

'A lot of girls are not out, especially if they’re in the industry, which is most of the people that I know. Then they’re, like, “Oh, no. We can’t date. We can hook up.”'

Earlier this month curiosity was sparked among fans of Bella Thorne when a photo of the actress kissing a girl began to circulate online, and this event eventually led one avid follower to ask the star a very blunt question over Twitter.

“Are you bisexual?,” wrote the fan.  Bella’s response?  An appropriately simple answer: “Yes.”

While it is somewhat unusual for celebrities to open up about their sexuality in such a straightforward way – no groundbreaking interviews here – the former Disney star’s fans are loving Bella's basic approach.

So far Bella’s post has been liked more than 27,000 times, as fans continue to tweet the 18-year-old celebrating her honesty.

One Twitter user wrote: “DAMN @bellathorne is one of the coolest girls in Hollywood imo.  This chick is constantly real af.  Keep breaking them social conventions bb.”

The Shake It Up! star – who recently announced that she and British actor Gregg Sulkin had ended their year long relationship – has thanked her fans for their support by writing: “Aww thank you for all the accepting tweets from everyone.  I love you guys #pride.”

George Shelly has come out in a very emotional Youtube video.

The singer decided to come out to his fans to clear up speculation that has been surrounding the media lately.

"I don't feel that I should hide anything. I've been reading a lot of speculation online as to whether i'm straight or gay or bi," he said.

The 22-year-old revealed that he has dated both women and men in the past, and said that he doesn't want to be judged for who he dates in the future.

"I've been on a personal journey and I want you to be part of that journey from now on. I want to start 2016 with a clean slate.

"I've had girlfriends that I've loved. But I've also had boyfriends. I want you to know that whether I decide to be with a girl next or be with a guy next it's because I love them. It shouldn't be a big deal."

Amber Heard has opened up about the difficulties of coming out as bisexual in Hollywood.

The Magic Mike XXL star came out to the public as bisexual in 2010 when she was dating photographer Tasya van Ree.

In an interview with The Times, Ms Heard explained that at the time she “didn’t know of anyone else in my position who was a working female lead actress” who had made their sexuality public knowledge.

The star of The Rum Diary explained how she doesn’t want to hide from her sexuality but she also doesn’t want to be defined by it.

“I don’t want to have to deny my sexuality in order to be me. But I don’t want to have to be defined by it. I’m fundamentally opposed to trying to edit myself to be palatable or popular.

“I don’t give a f**k. I fight, but I shouldn’t have to,” the 29-year-old admitted.

Amber also opened up about her role in the forthcoming Magic Mike XXL. Ms Heard clearly appreciates the reversed gender roles in the film, with the men being the recipients of objectification. As she said, “It’s a film about men seeking sexual attention… It gives the power position to the women.”

Sounds like Ms Heard has a lot in common with Hollywood heartthrob Chris Pratt who also believes that men should be checked out more in the name of equality.

True Blood actress Anna Paquin left legendary chat show host Larry King a little red in the face after he asked her if she was ‘still’ bisexual.

The actress – who is married to her co-star Stephen Moyer – recently revealed that she was bisexual.

In a recent interview, 80-year-old Larry asked her, "Are you a non-practicing bisexual?"

"Well, I mean, I am married to my husband, and we happy monogamously married," the Oscar winner, 32, replied.

"But you were bisexual?" King continued.

"Well, I don't think it's a past tense thing," Anna answered, laughing. "Are you still straight if you're with somebody? Doesn't mean you're not, if you were to break up with them or you were to die. It doesn't prevent your sexuality from existing. It doesn't really work like that."

A red-faced Larry quickly moved on, asking more about her recent achievements in LGBT rights.

Well said Anna! That's him told!

Jessie J has had to defend herself after coming under fire for declaring that her bisexuality was a ‘phase’.

The pop star had said she had dated boys and girls in the past, but in an interview this week, Jessie revealed that she no longer identifies herself as bisexual.

The former The Voice coach said, “For me, [bisexuality] was a phase. But I’m not saying bisexuality is a phase for everybody.”

However, last night, the 26-year-old singer took to Twitter to face up to the backlash over her comments.

“The hate on my TL is uncalled for and ridiculous,” said Jessie. “I apologise to anyone who is offended by me calling dating girls a ‘phase’ but I have to be honest with me for me. And for me it was. What else do I call it if I no longer have a want for it anymore? I’m talking for me remember. Not you.”

She added, “I didn’t generalise, I didn’t say bisexuality isn’t real. It is for some and some people grow up dating both men and woman forever. And that’s ok. And some don’t. Simple. And I don’t have any reason to lie?”

Jessie didn’t go into detail about the messages she had received, but implied that some abuse suggested she only identified herself as bisexual in order to get ahead in the music industry.

“I won’t stand down and be made to feel like I have killed someone or said something that deserves the messages I am currently receiving,” she added. “I did and still do stand for love who you love, whichever gender that is. And I will continue to stand for it and just not act on it because I don’t want to. It isn’t who I am.”
