Brittle nails – either easily peeling or splitting in the middle – is actually a pretty common beauty problem.

A lot of ladies blame it on getting older, soaking them in too much water or wearing nail polish a little too long, but have you ever thought that it could be what you are eating, or not eating so to speak?

There are certain foods you need in order to get essential vitamins and minerals to maintain good, strong nails.

Carrots and tuna
Both of these foods contain Vitamin A, an essential antioxidant.

Eggs and dairy
Vitamin D is important for hair follicle growth and can be found in these foods.

Nuts and beef
Both of these contain zinc which helps to maintain the skin.

Olives
Not everybody loves olives or actually likes them, but knowing they help to maintain your skin, hair and nails might make you change your mind.

Bride-to-be Lauren Conrad has shared her number one beauty tip for those planning on tying the knot themselves.

The Hills star, who is getting ready to walk down the aisle with fiancé William Tell, urged brides not to overdo it on the make-up front on the big day.

“I think it’s important to look like yourself on the day,” she said. “You don’t want to be wearing so much make-up. And do a trial run so there are no surprises on the day. That would be a bummer!”

Lauren revealed that her biggest fail in the make-up department was trying to do too much with her look.

She said, “Trying to do way too much was my failure. I’ve learnt to pick one thing and go with it. If you have a simple outfit, you can have more fun with your make-up. But if you have statement hair, keep your make-up minimal.”

How you shape your eyebrows can either make or break you. While it may seem easy, many, many people are still managing to get it wrong.

Using a magnifying mirror
If you have to use a magnifying mirror to see the little hairs, you don’t need to pluck. Remember, people will be looking at you through the naked eye. Over-plucking leads to thin, sparse brows that don’t look good

Getting the arch wrong
Angle a pen from the bridge of your nose up to your iris to find your arch.

Tweezing above the brow
Only plunk under the arch and never go above it – no matter how much you may want to.

Try to make them look the same
Your eyebrows are not identical, so don’t try to make then look the same. If you do, you will lose the natural shape and end up with brows that look a little bit strange.

Choosing black brow make-up
If you need to fill in your brows make sure you choose the right colour. If you are fair, go for a colour that is one shade darker than your hair and if you are dark go one shade lighter. Never, ever choose black.

Remember, plucking your eyebrows is an art form that needs to be mastered.
