Producers of SuperValu, Ireland’s largest grocery retailer, took home a remarkable 94 Blás Na hÉireann awards at the awards ceremony yesterday in another winning year for the retailer and its local producers. SuperValu Own Brand and its Food Academy producers picked up 94 awards – winning 26 Gold, 24 Silver, 30 Bronze, 5 Chef Larder and 9 speciality awards. SuperValu Signature Tastes won 5 Gold awards: highlighting the exemplary quality across the top-tier range. This brings the total number of awards won by SuperValu and its suppliers over the last three years up to an incredible 303 awards across SuperValu Own Brand, SuperValu Signature Tastes, Food Academy, and The Happy Pear.

Considered to be the ‘Oscars of the Food World’, the prestigious Blas na hÉireann awards celebrate and reward the very best tasting Irish food and drink products, and the passionate, committed producers who produce them.

SuperValu award winners included 1 prestigious ‘Chef’s Larder’ awards, won by Oliver Carty for their Signature Tastes Hampshire Easy Carve Gammon. Food Academy producers took home 4 of the highly coveted awards; including Cherry Orchard Community Garden’s Mixed Salad Leaves, Clonmore Farm’s Mixed Salad Leaves, Dainty Greens Microgreens Medley, and Roll It Pastry’s All Butter Puff Pastry. This highly regarded title is awarded for ingredients, specialist products or recipe staples that a chef would find to be a valuable part of their larder. Another key highlight was for SuperValu Food Academy producer Achill Island Sea Salt, taking home the ‘Best New Product’ for Achill Island Sea Salted Nougat with Cashew Nuts.

SuperValu Signature Tastes & Own Brand took home a total of 10 Gold awards including SuperValu Natural Kefir of Clóna Dairy Products Ltd, a West Cork based manufacturer of 100% Irish fresh milk and cream products and SuperValu Rapeseed Oil of Newgrange Gold.

Also included in the Gold award line up was SuperValu Signature Tastes Irish Hampshire Smoked Rack of Bacon (exclusive to SuperValu), produced by Oliver Carty. The business is owned and run by Ted Carty, whose foresight, innovation, and love of the business has brought Oliver Carty to where it is today, one of Ireland largest pork and bacon producers.

It was also another successful year for SuperValu’s Food Academy producers who picked up 48 awards – 13 Gold, 8 Silver, 14 Bronze, 4 Chefs Larder, 1 Best New Product and 8 Best in County; including 1 Gold award from Ballykilcavan Brewing for their Blackwell Irish Stout.

David and Lisa Walsh-Kemmis established Ballykilcavan Brewing Company on their family's historic farm in 2016, spanning 13 generations since 1639. They founded an on-farm brewery sourcing 100% of barley from the estate and introduced hop gardens while committing to sustainability and maintaining their Origin Green Sustainability status for 2023. With a dedication to preserving the farm's legacy, each beer is named after a specific location on the farm, showcasing full ingredient traceability and emphasising the unique terroir of Ballykilcavan.

TedFest is back from Thursday March 7th to Sunday March 10th 2024 as Inis Mór in the Aran Islands becomes the legendary ‘Craggy Island’ once more for a weekend of high-jinx. Copious cups of tea and sandwiches, a lot of red tank-tops, nuns on the run, priests on the pull, map-cap costumes and of course a bishop getting a kick up the arse – Fr Ted, Ireland’s best loved TV Show is celebrated.

Finally, we’ve made it to the weekend!

After a rough week with the stormy weather, we’re beyond excited to chill out over the next few days. We’ve already got a spot saved for ourselves on the sofa!

Tonight, the channel will be airing Four Weddings and a Funeral, led by rom-com legend Hugh Grant.

Created by the iconic film producer Richard Curtis, this 1994 hit stars Grant as Charles, an English bachelor who attends one of his friends’ weddings with the rest of the gang. 

There, he meets and instantly falls for Carrie (Andie MacDowell), an American guest. Despite struggling to express his feelings, Charles end up spending the night with Carrie. When the pair eventually go their separate ways, they are convinced that they will never see each other again – but of course, this is a rom-com!

EastEnders fans are gearing up for the return of some more familiar faces!

In recent weeks, viewers of the hit BBC soap have been treated to a revolving door of old character returns. 

Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), Peter Beale (Thomas Law) and Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) have all made re-appearances in recent months. Audiences were even treated to a brief return of the beloved Fatboy (Ricky Norwood), who was featured in a flashback scene.

After a wave of old faces returning to our screens in recent months, EastEnders fans would have been forgiven for presuming that there were no more on the horizon. 

However, the showrunner behind the National Television Award-winning soap has confirmed that there are still a few more to come!

In an interview with the Daily Star, executive producer Chris Clenshaw teased that fans can still expect a few more surprise returns, ahead of the highly-anticipated ‘whodunnit’ reveal on Christmas Day.

Clenshaw, who took over the position in January of last year, went on to note that there will also be a few new faces appearing on our screens.

“We have got some new characters coming that are arriving soon,” he revealed.

We finally have a release date for the docuseries based on the ‘Wagatha Christie’ case!

Back in October 2019, the world was gripped when Wayne Rooney’s wife, Coleen Rooney, alleged on Instagram that her fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy had been selling stories about her to tabloids.

However, at the end of the week-long trial, the wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy lost her case, and was ordered by the judge to pay 90% of Coleen’s legal fees.

Now, over a year after the trial came to a close, Coleen Rooney is finally telling her side of the story in an upcoming documentary.

Titled Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, the three-part series will delve into Coleen’s legal defence battle as the 37-year-old gathered evidence against Rebekah.

Disney+ first announced the production of the ‘Wagatha Christie’ docuseries in August 2022. One year on, the streaming service has confirmed that the series will launch in less than three weeks’ time, on October 18.

Taking to social media earlier today, the team behind Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story published the official poster for the series, which showcases Coleen in a fuschia pink suit, holding her phone and looking straight at the camera.

Allison Holker, the wife of the late Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, has shared an emotional tribute to mark her husband’s birthday. 

‘tWitch’, best known for his work as a DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, tragically died by suicide at the age of 40 on December 13, 2022. 

Allison is now marking Stephen’s first birthday since his death with their three children Weslie, 15, Maddox, seven, and Zaia, three, by her side. 

Sharing a moving tribute for her husband to her 3.8M Instagram followers, Allison posted photos of the family by Stephen’s grave.

The 35-year-old wrote, “We honor our beautiful, sweet, kind and loving Stephen tWitch Laurel Boss. Forever on our hearts and minds carrying us, guiding us and lifting us”.

“We feel your presence every day and will forever be grateful for the beautiful times we shared together. We feel your arms wrapping around us and holding us up on this day”.

“Happy birthday my love @sir_twitch_alot a day we will always celebrate the gift you were and still are to this world. We love you!”, she added. 

Many of Boss’ social media followers headed to the comments to share supportive messages for her and her family. 

One person commented, “You’re an incredible woman and Mom, such a beautiful family you two created. What a beautiful location, your Stephen is resting. Lots of Love to you and your kids”.

“Happy Heavenly Birthday @sir_twitch_alot. Sending so much love & hugs to you all and know he is with you in your hearts and watching over you”, penned another Instagram user.

A third added, “Happy birthday to an incredible soul! Sending you and your guys beautiful family love!”.

When announcing Stephen’s passing last year, Allison released a statement describing him as 'the backbone of their family'. 

She said, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us. Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him”.

“He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans. To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt”.

“I am certain there won't be a day that goes by that we won't honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you”.

Prepare to have your general knowledge and pop culture knowledge questioned!

This weekend RTÉ’s brand new quiz show The Money List will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.  

With Baz Ashmawy as host, The Money List will see two teams of complete strangers challenged to fill in missing answers on a list. The more lists they complete, the more money they win. 

But, the hardest part is, the lists can be about absolutely anything, from ‘Presidents of the USA’ to ‘Madonna Hit Singles’. 

Speaking about the upcoming show,  Baz Ashmawy revealed, “I can’t wait for viewers to see The Money List and meet the great contestants on the show. They are from all over the island of Ireland and from all walks of life from SNAs, doctors, finance managers, carpenters, students to retirees!”.

“Irish people love a quiz and over 1500 people applied to be a contestant on the show! Viewers won’t believe the stuff that Irish people know from James Bond movies to US states with a coastline. It was great craic making the show and amazing seeing teams winning money!” .

Starting this Sunday, the first team of the series are Angela from Mitchelstown in Cork who is a payroll specialist, and Stevie who works as a Special Needs Assistant from Clontarf in Dublin. 

The pair will only meet for the first time on the show as they take on carpenter Noel from Ballyfermot and Eric, a junior doctor from Wicklow. One of these teams will get to play for the top prize of €15,000. 

The winning team will progress to take on new challengers Denis, a primary school teacher from Clare and Emily, a project manager who lives in Galway. But, who has what it takes?

Make sure to watch The Money List this Sunday, October 1 at 8pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, and have your knowledge put to the test!
