Mrs Hinch has shared a look into the birthday party she held to celebrate her son Lennie turning two years old.

The cleaning influencer posted a sweet tribute for little Lennie as she opened up about the ‘perfect’ party for her toddler.

Sophie took to Instagram to post snaps of her and Len during the celebration where he could be seen having a great time as he played with farm-themed toys and looked delighted by his two-tier farm cake, complete with their dog and alpacas.

Penning a sweet tribute to her youngest child, Hinchliffe wrote, “Lennie Turns 2. Happy birthday our darling Len”.

“Thank you for the best morning Cuddles, Kisses and Giggles every single day. Mummy and Daddy Love You… TWO Infinity & Beyond Baby”.

She then delved into the details of the birthday party, explaining that the location suited both of her sons as they don’t love loud and busy parties.

“I also just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to some incredible small businesses below. Neither Ron or Len have EVER been fans of loud musical birthday parties or games”.

“I can never get them to sit down for more than two minutes, they run off, onto the next thing, normally to play with something completely non party related and it puts me on edge so much”.

The mum-of-two continued, “So when I came across @littlecitychelmsford I had to try it! I had everything crossed this would work for us. And oh my gosh it was more than I could have ever hoped for! It was PERFECT!”.

“They all played their hearts away for 5 hours straight. All used their amazing imagination to free play the way they love to, they went from one set up to the next with ease, no loud music, no set routine of having to join in every game”.

“They just played freely, all at their own pace. Even us adults managed to sit down at tables and have food and drink whilst the kids played away!” she said before closing off with, “That never happens for me at kids parties. So THANK YOU for making the day simply perfect for Lennie, all the children, my family and my friends”.

Many of Mrs Hinch’s fans headed to the comments to wish Lennie a happy birthday and to commend the lovely party. “Awww love him looks like he’s had the most amazing day, birthday the cake is beautiful”, wrote one fan.

A second fan said, “Happy Birthday Len! What a gorgeous boy! Love love love the Kidzania style set up! What a brilliant idea! I’ve never seen this at a party before”.

“Happy Birthday Lennie! Glad you had the best day! Your party sounds amazing”, added a third.

An Post, together with Sue Perkins (The Great British Bake Off and Sue Perkins’ Big American Road Trip), today launched Rate Alerts -a brand new feature to the An Post Money Currency Card. Rate Alerts allows the customer to set a target exchange rate for their currency of choice, and customers will receive a push notification when this target is reached – meaning money can be exchanged at a preferred rate. The new facility will be available on the An Post Money App, where customers can also manage their money, monitor spending and exchange currency commission-free. According to a survey conducted by An Post Money, over 73% of adults plan to travel abroad this year, and are saving hard for it, with strong sales being made for Canadian and Australian currency. Along with Rate Alerts, Sue touched on a number of different tips and tricks to make your money go further while on holiday this Summer.

Sue Perkins commented:

“Savour local cuisine: Immerse yourself in the local food scene, trying new dishes, exploring local markets, and indulge in authentic culinary experiences. Not only will you enjoy delicious flavours, but you can also save money by opting for local eateries that offer authentic experiences at affordable prices.

Explore off-the-beaten path: Venture beyond the typical tourist attractions and discover hidden gems in lesser-known areas. That way you can have unique experiences and local cultures and you may also find that prices are more budget-friendly compared to popular tourist spots.

Stay updated on exchange rates: It's essential to stay informed about exchange rates when traveling abroad. By using An Post Travel Money Rate Alerts and convenient currency options, you can seize the opportune moment to exchange your currency at favourable rates. This way, you can maximise your holiday budget and have peace of mind knowing you're getting the best value for your money”.

Lucy Murray, Customer Experience Director, An Post Retail said:

“An Post Money is Ireland’s leading provider of foreign currency on secure card and cash, available through the An Post Money app and at 900 post offices, six days a week. We know our customers and what’s important to them when travelling so peace of mind and value for money are key features of our commission-free currency card and cash options, as well as simple online top-ups, card freeze options and easy access to cash in an emergency.

“Rate Alerts will make a big difference to customers closely watching fluctuating exchange rates so that they can pounce and purchase at their preferred exchange rate.”

What’s clear is that Irish people are saving hard for their holidays, and are on the hunt for small ways to make savings and stretch their holiday-spend that bit further. Whether it’s security concerns, the convenience of popping into the Post Office for cash or card, or getting the best deal using Rate Alerts, An Post has customers covered for all their foreign currency needs this Summer.

Cash is still King

An Post are the only foreign currency provider on the market that offer both cash and card. Their foreign currency offerings are available at over 900 Post Offices in the country, open 6 days a week – convenient for that last minute dash the day before a flight. According to survey participants, the Post Office continues to be the number one choice for foreign cash, and it’s wise to purchase before you get to the airport or go abroad, as An Post charge 0% commission on their foreign currency offerings. Over 60% of customers travelling to the UK and US surveyed said that while they favour card, they still like to have cash with them, for emergencies in particular.

An Post Money Currency Card the popular option

For summer holidays in 2023, the An Post Money Currency Card is essential. The card holds up to 15 currencies, and can be topped up online, or via the An Post Money app or in the Post Office. The An Post Currency Card is a Mastercard, meaning customers have access to 24/7 customer service from wherever they are in the world. For added security, An Post Money will give customers two cards, so if one gets lost or stolen, the other can be used. Also by using the An Post Money app, you can freeze or cancel your card. An Post Money can also arrange access to emergency cash via Western Union up to the value of what was on the Currency Card should it be lost or stolen and you need cash quickly.

Denise Welch has opened up about her experience with battling addiction and how her life has changed since going sober 11 years ago.

The Loose Women star is celebrating her 65th birthday today, May 22, and to mark the occasion, she has spoken out why this decade in her life has been ‘the happiest’ for her.

Sharing an honest insight into her past and how far she’s come, Denise spoke with OK! about her battle with depression and how her addiction ‘stopped the pain at the time’, before she got sober.

Credit: Denise Welch Instagram

Welch explained, “This decade has been one of the happiest in my life for two reasons. One is that I met my husband and I have an incredibly happy marriage that I love and I nurture. And two because I got sober”.

“My life was a mess for many parts of a decade and more before. Not all the time, but I was dealing with an addiction which impacted my family and myself”.

“Addiction is a horrible illness. There are never excuses for behaviour, but there are always reasons – that’s how I look at my life”.

Denise then admitted, “I made some terrible judgements, I made some terrible mistakes, I hurt my family, but there were reasons and that was because I was medicating a terrible illness”.

Credit: Denise Welch Instagram

“And anybody who has suffered from depression will know that you’ll do anything to stop the pain. That is why people with depression take their own lives. They very rarely want to die – they want to stop the pain. You are looking for a quick fix all the time, whether that’s drink or drugs to stop the pain – and that’s what I was doing”.

“Once you get into that vicious cycle, you can’t get off it, because you’re terrified of the comedowns all the time”.

The former Waterloo Road actress revealed that apart from raising her family, getting sober is what she’s most proud of in life.

Credit: Denise Welch Instagram

“Bar having my children, and raising two amazing kids and now having an amazing step-son who’s given us a grandchild, apart from the pride in that, getting sober is the thing I am most proud of. Not just for me and Lincoln, but for the family that loves you, because you’re getting sober for everybody. Everybody’s life is good because we’ve given up drinking”.

Denise is mum to 34-year-old Matty, known for being in the band The 1975, and 22-year-old Emmerdale actor Louis. She shares her sons with ex-husband Tim Healy.

After splitting from Tim, the TV presenter married her husband, Lincoln, and became step-mum to his son Lewis. The couple will be celebrating 10 years of marriage this June after tying the knot in Portugal in 2013.

Yes, we live in a digital age where people put their best selves forward and simply delete those less than flattering angles. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist — right?

As most of us know, spending too much time on social media tends to have a negative effect on our overall mood. We start comparing our lovely selves to those filtered lives we see on Instagram and ultimately start to feel bad ourselves. If this everyday pastime is having such a negative effect on us as grown adults, then you’d wonder what it’s doing to young, impressionable girls.

According to in-depth research by Dove, the social media usage of young girls in Ireland between the ages of 10 and 17 years is quite high (75%), with 77% spending more than an hour a day on a social platform. The study has shown that girls compare themselves with others on social media and look for validation, leading them to feel bad about themselves.

45% of girls in Ireland feel that spending time on social media makes them feel worse about how they look. With the rise of social media comes the inherent need for validation from friends across these platforms. Girls will seek a form of ‘approval’ through likes on their photos. The research found that 56% of girls in Ireland think getting many likes or comments on social media is important for their self-confidence and this increases to 85% for girls with low body esteem.

This need for validation can lead girls wanting to change their appearance by using editing apps from a young age. Dove research tells us that 39% of girls in Ireland have already downloaded a photo editing app and they were on average 12 years old the first time they applied a filter/used an app to change the way they looked. Shockingly, 79% of girls in Ireland try to change or hide at least one body part/ feature before posting a photo of themselves.

Despite all these pressures, girls in Ireland still feel social media can be a place where they can be themselves and feel good about who they are. 60% like the way they look on social media and over 50% think social media is a positive thing in their life. However, self-expression needs to trump the need for validation on social media with 55% of girls in Ireland wishing they could share anything on social media without worrying about what others might think.

So, it seems as though social media will continue to be a conflicting battle amongst our young people.

May is a wonderful time of the year — the sun is beginning to shine more often, the leaves are growing back on the trees at a rapid pace, the days feel long and bright, with the hot summer months mere weeks away.

However, May is also known as Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a very poignant time of the year.

There are many signs and symptoms to watch out for when it comes to skin cancer, including:

  • A mole that changes size, colour or feel.

  • A flat lesion with a scaly, crusted surface.

  • The appearance of a large brownish spot with darker speckles.

  • A painful lesion that itches or burns.

  • A small lesion with an irregular border and portions that appear red, pink, white, blue or blue-black.

  • Red or purple patches on the skin.

  • Firm, shiny nodules that occur on or just beneath the skin and in hair follicles.

Early detection of skin cancer is vital. In the case of melanoma skin cancer, spotting it early can save your life. If spotted early, up to 90% of cases are curable.

As summer fast approaches, protecting our skin from the sun and those UV rays has never been more important, especially considering the staggering rate of skin cancer in Ireland. Over 75% of the Irish population have the ‘Celtic skin type’, meaning we freckle and burn uncommonly easily as we’re directly exposing our weak, unprepared, and already vulnerable Irish skin to powerful UV radiation.

Despite the vast amount of education and information available to us on the perils of sun damage, Skin Cancer is the number one most diagnosed cancer in Ireland. There are an estimated 12,919 average annual diagnoses.

One of the most prevalent misconceptions we have regarding our skin is tanning. While we no longer slather ourselves in baby oil and have wholeheartedly embraced fake tan in this country, the number of skin cancer diagnoses is continuously rising.

Many Irish people do not take necessary precautions while out in the sun, hoping to achieve a “healthy” summer glow. The simple fact is that if you fail to protect your skin from UV radiation, you are putting yourself at risk.

If you allow your skin to become red and burn, this risk dramatically increases as one sunburn every 2 years triples your risk of melanoma.

To help keep us protected from the sun all summer long, skincare and beauty guru Eavanna Breen has drafted her top 5 tips:

Step 1: Seek some shade

“Spending time in the shade is the most effective thing you can do to avoid being in the sun too long. Good shade can give up to 75% protection from UV rays.  If you are someone who sits at a window all day or drives a lot in the course of your day, you need to use clothes and sunscreen to protect your skin. That window is not protecting you.”

Step 2: Be clothes conscious

“One of the simplest things you can do to protect your skin from UV rays is to cover it with clothes. Choose clothes that cover as much skin as possible. For example, wear a shirt with a collar, three-quarter length sleeves and a maxi skirt. Some fabrics give better UV protection than others.”

Below are Eavanna’s top picks for clothing that offer better sun protection:

Linen, cotton, and hemp let fewer UV rays through.

Dark clothes block more UV rays than light coloured clothes.

UPF* clothes block UV rays from passing through.

When choosing sun-safe fashion, Eavanna suggests you avoid:

Stretched fabrics as they let more UV rays through to the skin.

Wet fabrics let more UV rays through to the skin.

Old threadbare fabrics let more UV rays through to the skin.

Step 3. Embrace the hat

“Ensure the hat gives shade to the face, neck, head, and ears. A baseball hat is not ideal as it does not provide enough shade. Good examples are a broad-brimmed, bucket, or legionnaire style hat. Wearing sunglasses will also help to protect your eyes.”

Step 4. Wear Sunscreen

“It is essential to wear SPF daily, even when cloudy. The damaging UV rays can still penetrate the clouds and age the skin, so although the sun does not feel hot or look like it is changing colour, it affects the skin. The sun’s UV rays penetrate the skin and reinforce old damage that might have happened years previously, even as a child. The skin remembers that damage and is constantly weakened by the regular exposure to UV rays. It is a common misconception that darker skin types shouldn't be concerned; everyone is at risk, even darker skin types. Although lighter skin will be that bit more at risk of developing cancer.”

“There are only two occasions when you do not need to wear sunscreen:

1. Early in the day for no more than 15-20 mins to allow for vitamin D production. You don't need to spend hours in the sun to produce enough vitamin D. Extra time outdoors doesn't equal more vitamin D, but it does increase skin cancer risk.

2. When it's dark outside.”

“The best face sun protection product I have ever come across in my long career is the Protect & Care Sun Oil by applied science led, German skincare brand Skinmade. One little drop of this in the morning and you’re protected for 8 hours. The SPF 50 light oil provides long lasting UVA and UVB protection. It is all packed full of the world’s strongest antioxidant, so not only is it providing complete protection, but it is also doing wonders for your skin.”

Step 5: Know the UV index

“When the UV Index is three or more, you are at greater risk of skin damage leading to skin cancer.  Get into the habit of checking the UV Index as a reminder of the need to be SunSmart every day.”
