Sorry folks, Robert Pattinson is officially off the market – well, sort of.

During an interview with a US radio station, the British actor revealed he is “kind of” engaged to singer, FKA Twigs.

The couple have dated for the past three years, however they have always been keen to keep their relationship out of the public eye.

Having previously been in a very public relationship with Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart, that actor said that while he tries to keep his life private, there are times when he'd like to share more with his fans.

"It's one of the most frustrating things in the world," he explained.

"Because you want to be able to do that [be more open], but it's literally like, to kind of get stuck in this position you have to make this decision whether you want to let the crazy people in."

Robert and Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, were first pictured together back in 2014 and rumours of their engagement have been rampant ever since.

The 31-year-old described Twigs as “amazing” and “super talented” and said they made the decision to stay out of the spotlight because of a “crack troupe of crazies”.

So, while the couple may not want their romance splashed across the front pages, congratulations are still in order – well, kind of.

US President, Donald Trump, has effectively banned transgender people from serving in the US military.

He made the announcement in a series of tweets in which he said the decision had been made after consultation with his Generals and military experts.

The President also stated that the military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

It looks as though it's a case of one step forward and two steps back, as the new policy completely contradicts the Obama administration's efforts to loosen restrictions on transgender people in the US military.

According to The Independent, Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said that the Pentagon was giving the military another six months to conduct a review to determine if allowing transgender individuals to enlist in the armed services would impact its "readiness and lethality".

If you've ever blamed your failing memory on your G&T habit, you may be talking absolute nonsense if recent research is anything to go by.

According to a study conducted in the University of Exeter, alcohol consumption can actually help to improve your short-term memory.

Don't worry; we'll wait while you pick yourself off the floor.

OK, ready?

So, researchers used 88 participants, 57 of whom were female, to investigate the hypothesis, and ultimately discovered that individuals who consumed alcohol prior to memory tasks performed better than those who didn't.

The group, who were aged between 18 and 53, were required to learn information from the comfort of their own homes before one half of the group went for a night of drinking.

The following day both groups convened, and researchers quickly established that those who had consumed an average of four alcohol units the night before were more capable of regurgitating the information they had learned the day before than their teetotal counterparts.

"Our research not only showed that those who drank alcohol did better when repeating the word-learning task, but that this effect was stronger among those who drank more," said Professor Celia Morgan of the University of Exeter.

“The causes of this effect are not fully understood, but the leading explanation is that alcohol blocks the learning of new information and therefore the brain has more resources available to lay down other recently learned information into long-term memory."

“The theory is that the hippocampus – the brain area really important in memory – switches to ‘consolidating’ memories, transferring from short into longer-term memory."

Researchers who conducted the study, which has been published in Scientific Reports, are "keen to stress that this limited positive effect should be considered alongside the well-established negative effects of excessive alcohol on memory and mental and physical health."

Fair enough.

Kylie Jenner has found herself at the receiving end of some very unflattering accusations.

The reality TV queen has been accused of copying the artwork of British graphic artist Sara Pope in the trailer and branding of her upcoming biopic docu-series, Life of Kylie.

The lip motif-loving star featured a neon set of lips in the trailer for her new show.

A post shared by Sara Pope (@sarapopeartist) on

However, the distinctive design was spotted by the artist, who claims it is too similar to hers to be a coincidence.

The artwork was created in 2015, and TMZ  claims that it has seen legal documents filed against Kylie Jenner by Sara Pope.

However, a statement given to the website claims that the trailer was made by a third party, so Kylie herself had nothing to do with the conception or creation of the graphics or images within the ad.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Kylie recently found herself in a similar situation after she and Kendall were forced to apologise to numerous musicians and the families of numerous deceased musical icons, after they used images of the musicians on a series of 'vintage-inspired' t-shits without permission.

The collection was pulled from Kendall and Kylie's clothing line immediately.

Kylie has also previously been accused of copying other lip imagery in the past.

In 2016, make-up artist Vlada Haggerty claimed Kylie had used her original dripping lips motif in social media imagery for Kylie Cosmetics without permission or credit.

Kylie deleted the images, and later reuploaded them with proper crediting.

We all loved 'the brick'.

You know, the Nokia 3310 that you could bash off walls and it would still be in mint condition?

The phone, which was first released in September 2000, is making its way back onto the market.

Nokia has decided to remake the handsets again, and it is thought they will be considered as a 'second' phone to bring along to festivals and concerts.

The Nokia 3310 will be available from Vodafone, Eir and Carphone Warehouse from Wednesday 2 August.

According to 98fm, the colour-screened phone has up to a month's standby time and it will deliver more than 22 hours of talk time.

“This is what consumers have been asking us for, and so we decided that we’d just do it and have some fun with it," said Florian Seiche, president of HMD and Nokia spokesperson.

We're looking forward the brick making its way back into our lives!

So, there's no doubt that Ireland is going through somewhat of a gin renaissance at the moment.

Whether it's an elderflower G&T or a classic martini, everyone has their favourite way to enjoy the spirit of the moment.

With so many options available on the market, it can be hard to know what to go for, but lucky for us, that decision just got a whole lot easier.

Aldi's exclusive Boyle's Gin has just scooped up two awards at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London.

Judged on its type, age and strength, Boyle's Premium Small Batch Irish Gin was awarded two silver medals – one in the Gin (London Dry – 40%) only competition, and one in the Gin & Tonic Competition.

Finbar McCarthy, Group Buying Director at Aldi Ireland said: “The International Wine & Spirits Competition recognises and pays tribute to the very finest products, so we are delighted to see our very own Boyle’s Gin win two very deserved awards.”

“It has been said that Ireland is experiencing somewhat of a gin revolution at the moment, and we’re very proud to be amongst those leading the way, with a top-quality gin at a very affordable price.”

The gin products entered into the competition were also given the opportunity to enter the Gin & Fever Tree Tonic category where an expert panel of judges then blind tasted each pairing and assessed them on how well they went together.

To ensure total fairness, each G&T comprised of one part gin and three parts tonic and no ice or garnish were used.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have won two silver awards at the International Wine & Spirits Competition this week,” said Peter Mulryan, Director of Blackwater Distillery in Waterford.

“There is an abundance of great gin distillers throughout Ireland at the moment, and so to have our product highlighted on an international stage is a massive achievement for us. Working with Aldi has been a hugely positive experience for us as they know what their customers want, and that’s crucial to creating a successful product.”

Named after Robert Boyle of Lismore Castle, Boyle’s Gin is sold exclusively in Aldi stores priced at €24.99.

But get there quick, this stuff will surely fly off the shelves.

James Cromwell has been arrested again.

The Babe actor was arrested and sentenced to jail last month after he was found guilty for obstructing traffic during a protest against a gas-fired power plant being built in Wawayanda.

Last week, after a failed appeal, he spent seven days in jail.

And now it has emerged that the 77-year-old was arrested on Monday for his involvement in a protest at SeaWorld San Diego’s Orca Encounter.

James attended an Ocra show, holding a megaphone and wearing a t-shirt that read 'SeaWorld Sucks'.

In a video released by PETA, James can be seen protesting in the crowd. Several minute later, police rush in and can be seen arresting him along with a number of other protestors.

Speaking about the controversy, James said in a statement from PETA: "Orcas deserve a full life in the ocean, not a life sentence of swimming endless circles until they drop dead from disease.

"My friends at PETA and I want SeaWorld to move these intelligent animals to seaside sanctuaries without delay."

A 28-year-old man from Cork has died in Australia after falling "from a height."

According to The Irish Times, Kristian Crowley, who has been living in Melbourne since 2012, suffered head injuries after his fall and was rushed to hospital.

He later died from his injuries in Alfred Hospital on July 16.

Friends of Kristian, who is originally from Ballygarvan, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to bring Kristian's body home and pay for medical costs.

They have already raised AUS$33,970 out of their AUS$35k target.

Mr Crowley was a massive GAA fan, and Ballygarvan GAA posted a lovely message on his Facebook wall.

“Ballygarvan GAA would like to offer our sympathy to the Crowley Family on the sad passing of Kristian in Australia. Kristin was a brilliant under-age play with Ballygarvan and his loss is devastating.

"To his Mom, Dad, Leon and Karla, we offer our deepest condolences.”

Meanwhile, his friends said that he was “the salt of the earth and as generous as they come, wore his heart on his sleeve and loved life.”

We'd be the first to admit that when it comes to anything engagement or wedding-related, it doesn't take much to set us off.

Snaps of a surprise proposal or footage of a wedding day have had us in tears more times than we'd care to remember, but the latest one to go viral is in another league.

There's no surprise proposal, no rehearsed wedding dance, nor any pre-planned serenade as seen in most virals, but instead a glimpse into the bond a new bride shares with her four-year-old stepson.

While making vows to his dad, Emily Leehan felt it was equally as important to make vows to her new husband's son, Gage.

And it looks like Gage found the whole thing as moving as we did.

"I want you to be safe, and to try your hardest and to be a good person," Emily told a clearly emotional Gage.

"I know that you and I will butt heads," Emily continued. "But I hope with all my heart that as you become a grown man you will understand my methods and realize I have only done what is best for you and that I love you."

And in one final tribute to the adorable little boy, Emily declared: "You have helped make me into the woman that I am today, and I may not have given you the gift of life, but life surely gave me the gift of you."

Yep, that's the sound of us crying again.

Do you find that at the end of a long day in the office your eyes are pretty much falling out of your head? Well, same here.

We have good news ladies, as there is a new (and super-chic) range of glasses on the market, that will protect your eyes from the strain of the screen.

Ambr Eyewear glasses are Ireland's latest must-have accessory for those who spend a lot of time at digital screens, be it working with computers or loads of Netflix and chilling.

The glasses aim to eliminate the symptoms of digital eye strain (yes, that's actually a thing) that many of us experience from staring at screens for too long.

But the added bonus is they look slick and stylish, just like regular designer specs. Ambr glasses work by filtering harmful blue light and reducing the glare that reaches your eyes – making your work day more comfortable and productive.

Blue light is the harmful light emitted from digital screens, and it's high frequency basically barrages our eyes with flickering light that we don't really notice, but it makes it more difficult to focus, increasing the strain on our eyes.

This strain leads to the usual workday symptoms like headache, blurry vision, sore and dry eyes and general discomfort – literally CHECK to all of these.

Studies have shown the negative effect eye strain can have on productivity, increasing the amount of time it takes for a worker to complete a task by as much as 20 percent.

And with regards sleep, many studies, from research centres like Harvard School of Medicine, have shown that blue light exposure can deplete the brain's ability to produce melatonin, the stuff that makes you sleep!

This is why you find it difficult to fall asleep at night after staring at your phone.

And if the science of these sexy specs isn't enough to convince you of their glory, what if we told you that some of Ireland's most popular influencers have been wearing them?

The likes of the stunning Roz Purcell and Nicola Hughes have been seen rocking their Ambr glasses!

But wait –  it actually gets better.

Possibly the best thing about Ambr Eyewear is the fact that they're super affordable, with prices starting at just €38 – small price to pay for decent sight, productivity and a daycent night's sleep.

We all remember Plan B, right?

The late noughties rapper who had a bunch of hits such as She Said and Prayin'?

Up to scratch? Well, he's looking very, very different these days.

The rapper hasn't been on the scene in five years and took some time off to concentrate on being a father.

But this week, he made his comeback in London and fans were totally shocked at his new look.

He actually looks like an entirely different man.

What most of you don't know is that Plan B, real name Ben Drew, is also an avid actor.

And that's his reason for losing weight and changing his body.

While filming for his movie The Sweeney back in 2012, Plan B said that his co-star Ray Winestone was the one to spark to change.

"We were talking about my character and how someone as young as me has got the part," he told The Sun.

"We were saying how I've got to be a man in his early thirties, super-smart, excels in exams, brilliant at sports and Ray looked me up and down and goes, 'Are you sure you're going to get yourself in good enough shape?'

"I thought right then and there, 'I'm going to do it'. That's the extra incentive I needed. I thought, 'I'll f**king show you, pal'."

And now, of course, Twitter is loving him:

Disclosing your relationship status is a double-edged sword. No matter what the nature of your relationship, people will have something to say about it.

Somehow, giving people information about your love-life is taken as a direct invitation to make a judgement.

I met my boyfriend in the Gaeltacht.

If your reaction is “awwwww”, you will be even more pleased to know that our Gaeltacht romance produced a baby a few years later.

If your reaction is “why, oh why?", you are not alone.

I am aware that we are lacking in examples of people who end up with their Gaeltacht flings. Yet, here we are: attempting to make our daughter speak as Gaelige for sentimental reasons.

Here are 4 things that childhood sweethearts are sick of hearing:

1. You shouldn't let a relationship dictate your life at this age

Agreed, of course not, but this applies across all age brackets.

If you have ever felt like you have missed out on anything, or that your OH has prevented you from pursuing your dreams, that's warning bells.

If anything, being together since the birth of our dreams has solidified them.

If you meet as kids, you meet at a time where gender roles are less obvious. You establish equality because at that age, there is less that inhibits you because of your gender.

Once you enter motherhood, the workforce or real life, these roles become more prominent.

If they are not what you want for yourself, you’d better be sure to tell the person you love that you don’t want to give up your dreams for theirs. There is no question about this if you have grown up as equals.

2. Don’t you wish you had met later in life?

And miss out on being kids together? We met at a time before we became cardboard cut-outs of the system. Before networking and measurements of success. Before phoneys and fake smiles.

Think about your childhood best friend. Would you plan a future with them?

If sh*t goes down, it can be good to have years of a foundation for support.

Also, it’s such craic having a side of your relationship that resembles your childhood. The problem arises when the growing-up happens at different rates. If you happen to progress through life at the same pace, then the age you met shouldn't matter.

3. Other people?

Don’t be daft. Of course all of us long-timers have considered this question.

We talk about it often and of course feelings can arise with crushes and daydreams. But having that level of communication that you would have had at 16, can help.

Kids talk non-stop. They are not savvy enough to conceal feelings yet. The world has not left its mark on their trusting hearts. This makes for a lot (maybe too much) communication, something that stays with you as you grow up together.

If the relationship is not worth fighting for, you won’t fight. People, in general, don’t make an effort for things they don’t care about.

If this is a real issue then that should be enough to end the relationship, regardless of when you met.

4. These things don’t last.

I’ll tell you what doesn't’t last; life.

If you are truly happy and confident in yourself and your relationship, why would you listen to grumpy-arse in the corner? No two stories are the same. Relationships are too individual to cast an umbrella judgement over all childhood sweethearts.

If you are happy, you won’t regret your first love, even if it doesn't work out.

Anyone who is 100 per cent certain that their relationship will last, no matter when you met, is living on a different planet.

However, anyone who believes that you can’t end up with your first love is also incorrect. There are plenty of serious relationship issues that cannot be tolerated. The age you met is not one of them.
