Being afraid of flying is very common so you are not alone. However, while most of your fears are in your head, it doesn’t make flying any easier.

To help keep you calm on your next flight, try these little tips to see if you feel any better:

Listen to the safety advice
Many people feel listening to the advice will make them think about crashing; however, knowing what to do in the rare case of an emergency will actually help to calm you down.

Bring plenty of entertainment
Pack a bag full of magazines, books, pens, music and crosswords and try to focus your attention on the in-flight movies. Keeping your mind occupied will help you not think about the fact that you are in the air.

Talk to the person beside you
If you are flying with friends, ask them to keep you distracted during take-off, turbulence and landing. If you are flying alone, engage the person next to you in conversation. Talk about anything other than the fact that you are on a plane.

Look out the window
Unless your fear is down to you not liking heights, look out the window. This will help you understand a lot of the motions of the plane e.g. if it is turning, going up or going down.

If you love nothing more than the wind in your hair than a cycling day is just for you. Ireland is an abundance of beautiful bike trails and the road less travelled, so pop on your helmet, grab your bike and hit one of these beautiful trails:

Kingfisher cycling trail
The Kingfisher cycling trail is a route covering over 480km so it is definitely not for the novice cyclist, although you could probably hit one of the shorter trails if you didn’t think you were up to it. Te route takes you through lakelands, mountain climbs, canals and country lanes. The route is signposted and if you get tired you could always bunk into one of the many accommodations along the way.

Killarney National Park Loop
This is a great route if you haven’t been on your bike in a while, as it only covers a distance of about 28km. Most of the cycle track is on pavement and you will get to see a whole host of attractions including Ross Castle, Muckross House and Torc Waterfalls.

Ring of Kerry
Bet you never thought when you were in school that you would ever consider cycling the Ring of Kerry!  Over the 62km you will be taken through the interior of the Iveagh Peninsula, down deserted roads and through beautiful countryside.

Ireland may be famed for its drink culture but have you really experienced the best bars in our little country yet?

Vintage Cocktail Bar, Co. Dublin
Vintage Cocktail Bar in Temple Bar is a pretty cool place to go for your cocktails. True to its name, the bar is a throwback to the golden age of the forties and you will feel you have stepped back in time. Grab some food and take your pick from the extensive cocktail menu.

De Bara Folk Club, Co. Cork
De Bara Folk Club is located in Clonakilty and is self proclaimed as Ireland’s No. 1 Folk Club. There is live music everyday and a mix of traditional, rock’n’roll and folk music can be heard there.

Foxy John’s, Co. Kerry
Foxy John’s in Dingle is a pretty unusual pub to say the least. It is not just a pub as it doubles up as a hardware store. Random maybe, but it comes in handy if your bike gets a flat on the way there.

O’Connell’s, Co.  Galway
O’Connell’s in Galway is full of character and reatains all its original features. you can get lost in cubby holes while scanning through the historic photos on the wall. It’s one for the whiskey lovers among us.

Celebs like a good holiday like the rest of us but have you ever wondered where they like to spend their two weeks off?

Cabo, Mexico
It seems Cabo is one of the hottest spots for celebs to holiday. The likes of Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Brad Pitt, Bono and Gwyneth Paltrow have all stayed here.

Necker Island, British Virgin Islands
This 74-acre private island is owned by Sir Richard Branson so you might have a bit of trouble booking a stay here. Princess Diana was a  fan along with Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford and Janet Jackson. If we’re nice, maybe Sir Richard will let us sleep on his couch.

Aspen, Colorado
Aspen is a beautiful ski destination so it is not surprising it is frequented by the likes Kevin Coster and Kate Hudson. We’re thinking a ski trip is in order – you never know who you might bump into.

Hawaii
Hawaii often features on a person’s bucket list, celebs included. Pierce Bronson, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have reportedly stayed on this beautiful island. Us, jealous? Never.

Oh what we would do to live like a star for a day…

This is what it looks like when eight million petals rains down over a town.

Costa Rica was showered with an explosion of colour when, as part of their Sony campaign, advertising agency McCann made it rain petals over the town of Irazu Volcano.

The method behind the flower madness was to use one petal to represent every pixel in Sony’s 4K Ultra HD TV.

It took more than two weeks for local residents and the agency to pick the petals but it was definitely worth it – the result is incredible.

If this is the first time on a boat for you don’t think about seas sickness. You might not actual suffer from it but you could very well convince enough to feel ill.

Acupressure wristbands
You can usually pick up motion sickness wristbands in your pharmacy. They use acupressure to help sufferers and are usually good at stopping nausea and vomiting.

Ginger
Ginger is good to alleviate nausea and is available in a powder form, tea or even sweets. So if you aren’t a fan of it you will be able to find something that you might like.

Green apples
Some believe green apples are helpful as well. Cruise ships often offer them on their room service menus.

Go outside
Spending as much time on deck as possible will help you to maintain a sense of balance. Staring at the horizon is a good idea.
