One Directions have officially made it to where no band has ever gone before; they have made it to the library of emojis.

Yep, they 1D guys unveiled their new emoji this week, along with the announcement that they are going to be performing at the 2015 American Music Awards in November.

So, how can you get this fabulous emoji? Well, whenever you tweet, use the hashtag #AMAs1D and it'll pop up! (Good move AMAs, because that hashtag is going to be used A LOT of times).

Now, the emoji will likely be temporary, but we're crossing our fingers that the guys become a permanent feature in our library of tiny images.

Yesterday, the new iOS software update allowed iPhone owners and emoji enthusiasts to express their love of all things burrito, unicorn and cheese.

There was a lot of cheese loving happening. People were more excited about the cheese than the Bank Holiday weekend it seemed.

UNICORNS

Now, we feel like there could be an explanation behind this worldwide cheese addiction.

A study recently published in the US National Library of Medicine has examined why certain foods are more addictive than others.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not if you’re a cheese freak), cheese was found to have the same addictive properties as many drugs.

According to the LA Times: “certain foods are addictive because of the way they are processed. The more processed and fatty the food, the more it was associated with addictive eating behaviours.”

An ingredient in cheese called casein makes cheese particularly addictive because of the way this is broken down into an opiate called casomorphin during digestion. The property has led Dr. Neal Barnard, founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, to call cheese “dairy crack.”

This is not a joke by the way, your cheese addiction is now validated. Thank you science!

"[Casomorphins] really play with the dopamine receptors and trigger that addictive element," registered dietitian Cameron Wells told Mic

Pizza was the food which was crowned the most addictive, which is thought to be as a result of the cheese topping.

So, now that we know there’s an actually explanation behind our love of cheesy food, who wants to try the Pizza Diet?

We all love staying in a hotel on holiday, and many of us will indulge in a little room service; but if you find picking up the phone and speaking to an actual human being a bit much, the Aloft Manhattan Downtown Hotel may have the answer.

The hotel has just launched Text it, Get it (or TiGi for short), a service that allows you to request things simply by sending an emoji.

On arrival, guests are presented with a menu of "packages", which they can request by texting a specific emoji to hotel staff.

If you request The Hangover Package, for instance, you will get two bottles of water, painkillers and two bananas, while The Munchies Package will bring junk food to your door.

The Aloft seems to be the first hotel to make this service available to it's customers, however, it's not an entirely new idea.

In January, Brooklyn bar Sunken Harbour Club, launched an entire emoji menu and BurgerBurger in London also allows you to order gourmet burgers via emoji.

It seems like emoji's just might take over the world yet!

Forget the iPhone 6s and the iPad Pro, there's another new development in tech-land that has us super excited.

Apple's iOS 9.1 update launches sometime later this year, and it will include a heap of new emojis.

Here's what seems to be the full collection, though no doubt there are a few that escaped the notice of the eager developers who got to try out iOS 9.1 in beta today.

Glam types will be pleased to know that champagne and cheese now feature, while animal-lovers will enjoy the lion, crab and squirrel additions.

And like any emoji keyboard, it also includes a tonne of totally random bits and bobs, like unicorns, squash rackets and microscopes.

Pretty much every category has had a few new symbols added, so there will be a lot to keep you entertained once the new update drops.

The new update is expected to launch shortly after the iPhone 6s is relelased, so we can hopefuly be firing burrito emojis back and forth by the end of the year.

Win.

Unicode Consortium, also known as the genius people who brought the emoji keyboard into our lives, are making some interesting updates.

They have released a list of 38 new emojis to be added to the current collection in 2016.

So, what made the final cut?

According to Metro: a pregnant woman, a face palm and a man in a tuxedo and bacon (finally).

That is not all though, and we are sure this one is going to make some people very very happy. There’s going to be an avocado emoji.

The release of Unicode 9 is expected to be sometime around the summer of next year, which yes is very far away. However the good people at Emojipedia have already been hard at work doing their best to predict what the new additions will look like.

There’s the dancing man:

Mrs. Claus:

Animals, because yes we are in desperate need of a duck emoji, desperate:

They have also put together the all-important possible food and drink options:

It's only a matter of time before we the Netflix emoji, we'll be waiting.

The company is already famed for its minimalist approach to brand awareness – but its latest advertising campaign goes one step further: using a sequence of 18 emjois on billboards erected in London.

Depicting a series of well-known traffic and roadworks symbols to reflect the city's notoriously congested roads, McDonalds even added in its own addition to represent drive-thru: it's enough to make a crying smiley face turn happy too.

An image of the billboard was this evening shared on Twitter by social media expert, Jennifer Hassan, who works in London for Viber. She spotted the ad at the Aldgate East tube stop, in the East End area of the city.

Ikea and Coca Cola are some of the other big names who have lately opted to embrace the use of the Japanese ideograms in adverts and promotional drives.

Ikeas's offering was released in February of this year, allowing customers to download images depicting the likes of its famed Swedish meatballs, sofas and bookcases, and the company's instantly-recognisable blue and yellow stores.

Have you ever been in the middle of the most rapid fire WhatsApp conversation with your BFF and thought ‘what emoji would Carrie Bradshaw have used?’

Well, now you can find out the answer. Candace Bushnell, author of the original Sex and the City novel, is transforming your texting and messaging limits with the launch of her new app.

The new and improved SATC themed emoji keyboard provides all the possible little symbols necessary for you to really bring your inner Miranda to the social media table.

The app is being launched in conjunction with Bushnell’s newest novel, Killing Monica. The page turner is supposedly an addictive story about love, fame and foolishness.

With all the trademark sassy humour that Bushnell introduced us to from the ultimate besties in SATC, we can only imagine her latest novel will be a good one.

In the meantime, if you’re not too keen on diving into a new novel, you can still relive some of your favourite memories of Carrie and the gang with the new app.

Are you in dire need of a decent cocktail on a Friday evening? Text your whole squad the champagne glasses emoji and you’re sorted.

There’s even a ‘sorry not sorry’ emoji for when you really just couldn’t be bothered. We feel like Samantha would most definitely approve.

The app is available on the Apple App Store for iOS devices.

So, the yellow heart means you guys are best friend but the gimace means their BFF is your BFF too? Snapchat, what are you trying to do to us?

Feeling confused, we’ve decided to try and break down this new feature once and for all.

1. The emoji:
A yellow heart

What it means:
If this emoji appears beside a name, this is the person you speak to most often on Snapchat.

2. The emoji:
Awkward grimace

What it means:
When this appears next to a contact, they are your number one Snapchatter’s number one Snapchatter too. Awks.

3. The emoji:
Fire

What it means:
The fire emoji will be accompanied by a number which indicates a consecutive number of days you have sent Snapchats to this person. You guys are on fire!

4. The emojji:
Smiley face with sunglasses

What it means:
This ‘cool’ emoji means that you share a best friend with this person.

5. The emoji:
Side-eye

What it means:
They send you Snapchats a lot, but you don’t send many back. Feel the shade.

6. The emoji:
Rosy-cheeked smiley

What it means:
Sure, you send this person a lot of emojis, but not as many as you do to your yellow-hearted contact.

Here it is broken down by imagining what Beyoncé's Snapchat might look like…

Phew…we think we get it now.
