Tommy Bowe is headed to our television screens, but this time there won't be a rugby ball in sight.

The rugby star, turned fashion designer has been offered a role on the presenting team of RTÉ One's travel programme Getaways, while he recovers from the ankle injury sustained during this year's Six Nations.

Speaking to the Irish Independent Tommy said, "I’m very excited to be part of the Getaways team this year."

"I was disappointed after my injury in the Six Nations but this gives me an opportunity to explore another avenue while preparing myself for next season. Being a part of a great series like Getaways is a dream come true for me and I’m looking forward to the new challenge."

The Ulster man will join presenters, Joe Lindsay, Mairead Ronan and Vogue Williams, as they travel to exotic locations that are easily accessible to Irish holiday-makers.

New dad, Tommy will travel to Ibiza, with aims of revealing a calmer, more family orientated side to the island.

The series will include a host of gorgeous destinations, including the French Riviera and New York as well as locations closer to home.

Getaways is set to air in early 2018 and we can't wait to see Tommy gets on in his new role.

Previous presenters of the series include Angela Scanlon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, so Vogue has a lot to live up to.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, an insider said: “Vogue is currently getting ready to head to Cyprus and will also film a holiday in the Algarve.

“She is the perfect person to fill in for Mairéad, who has filmed the bulk of the new series.

“This is very much a temporary thing and Mairéad Ronan is still the host, but it was great to have the opportunity to have someone of Vogue’s draw and calibre to take part in the series."

Getting away for a weekend is often more trouble than it is worth. It can be expensive and two nights away is just never enough, especially when you want to see as much as possible.

Stick with us and you’ll definitely get the most out of your weekend break!

Accommodation
Make sure you book a hotel that is right in the heart of the action. If it’s a tourist hotspot, nightclubs and restaurants should be all within walking distance, you will definitely be able to see more.

Don’t check a bag
Unless you are heading away for a weekend of shopping, don’t check a bag in. It can get lost – yes, it has happened, and you’ll just spend your weekend away without any clean clothes.

Don’t over schedule yourself
If you want to see a certain site, put it in your itinerary but don’t put too many things down. You’ll end up seeing a whole load of sites, without really seeing them.

Bring your money
You don’t want to spend your time looking for an ATM machine so try to bring cash with you or even your credit card – don’t forget to pay it back though…
