Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather warning for hailstones this afternoon from 12pm to 3pm.

They have warned motorists to be extra careful in this weather, as hailstones can be particularly hazardous and unpredictable.

Hailstones can happen year-round in Ireland.

In order to stay safe in these risky weather conditions, cruise control should be switched off when driving.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) also says to reduce speed without braking during a sudden downpour of hailstones.

Alerting other motorists with your hazard warning lights is recommended.

As well, the RSA advises that you avoid sudden steering movements or braking suddenly when caught up in hailstones.

For more guidance on how to drive in this weather, watch this video from the RSA:

The number of deaths on Irish roads in 2017 is the lowest figure ever recorded since road fatalities were first officially documented in 1959.

The Road Safety Authority statistics for 2017 show a 15pc drop in road deaths when compared to 2016.

However, 158 people did lose their lives on Ireland's roads last year.

186 lives were lost in 2016

‘While it is heartening to see that 2017 was the lowest year on record for road deaths, this is not good enough,’ Minister for Transport Shane Ross told RTE.

‘We need to continue our efforts if we are to achieve the objective of reducing fatalities to 124 by 2020.’

‘Ultimately our aim should be zero deaths on our roads.’

If you've ever watched a rom-com/read a chick-lit book where the main character happens to work in the world of fashion, you've no doubt heard about the elusive myth of the 'sample sale.'

Designer pieces at knock-down prices? Sounds like perfection to us, but it's something we rarely see on Irish shores.

But happily that's all about to change as NINE of Ireland's most covetable labels have come together for a massive three-day sample sale in Dublin city centre.

Yup, starting from next week you'll be able to pick up some stunning pieces at marked-down prices from Irish design greats like Manley, Caroline Kilkenny, Mona Swim, Jill De Burca, Theo & George, Electronic Sheep, Edge Only, Maria Dora Raj and Love & Robots.

The Irish Design Sample Sale kicks off next Thursday April 7 at the RSAI, 63 Merrion Square.

Opening hours are as follows:

Thursday 10am-9pm

Friday 10am – 6pm

Saturday 10am – 5pm

On the Thursday there will be refreshments served from 5pm, so pop along after work for a glass of wine or a beer and nab yourself a bargain. Plus, you may even get to speak to some of the designers behind the labels while you're shopping.

Be sure to tweet your designer finds using the hashtag #irishdesign!
