Cruel Intentions

Cruel Intentions is one of the most iconic films of the 90s.

The plot had everything – sexual deviance, true love, death and a crucifix full of cocaine.

The film launched in 1999 – and the 20th anniversary of it's release just passed us by yesterday.

Sarah Michelle Geller, who played the lead villain Kathryn Merteuil, almost let the day go by without realising it.

Taking to her Instagram, she posted a very 90s poster for the film, with the caption:

'Wait…today 20 years?!? I literally just realised today is the actual anniversary. Well 20 years later I may be even more proud of this film.'

She also paif homage to the cast and crw:

'@rogerkumble you are the most wonderfully disturbed person I know and I love you.'

'@reesewitherspoon @selmablair @ryanphillippe (and not pictured @seanpthomas @vancityjax) you are even better actors and better people then you were then.'

'Forget me- everybody loves this film and I intend to keep it that way.'

Actress Selma Blair has made her first red carpet appearance prior to the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty following her Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis.

The 46-year-old actress wore a colourful green, pink, black and blue dress while carrying a custom embroidered cane to support her movement at the exclusive bash, and it brought her to tears.

Best known for her performances in HellboyCruel Intentions and Legally Blonde, she looked absolutely radiant while wearing an ethereal dress made by fashion house Ralph and Russo.

The matching cape, choker necklace and black cane made her overall look truly stunning, but it was the emotion behind her cane that had audiences turning heads. She praised her friends for having created the stick for her.

She shared a picture of her friend making the gorgeous cane on Instagram, writing: "This is love. How did I get so lucky?"

"I wanted a special cane for Vanity Fair dinner. So… David Lyon went out and found patent leather and @bic_owen and he stitched it on. Hours of love put in. And then Tom Bachick made it especially magical. I burst into tears. These gifts to get me through. I can't thank these three enough. There are angels."

The film star revealed on Instagram in October that she'd been diagnosed with the debilitating disease last August, but had been experiencing symptoms for 15 years prior.

"I have MS and I am ok. But if you see me , dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up. It takes a whole day for me alone. Thank you and may we all know good days amongst the challenges."

She continued; "I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it."

I was in this wardrobe fitting two days ago. And I am in the deepest gratitude. So profound, it is, I have decided to share. The brilliant costumer #Allisaswanson not only designs the pieces #harperglass will wear on this new #Netflix show , but she carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself. I have #multiplesclerosis . I am in an exacerbation. By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix , I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it . And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best. Since my diagnosis at ten thirty pm on The night of August 16, I have had love and support from my friends , especially @jaime_king @sarahmgellar @realfreddieprinze @tarasubkoff . My producers #noreenhalpern who assured me that everyone has something. #chrisregina #aaronmartin and every crew member… thank you. I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You want to sleep. You always want to sleep. So I don’t have answers. You see, I want to sleep. But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow. I want to play with my son again. I want to walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS and I am ok. But if you see me , dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up. It takes a whole day for me alone. Thank you and may we all know good days amongst the challenges. And the biggest thanks to @elizberkley who forced me to see her brother #drjasonberkley who gave me this diagnosis after finding lesions on that mri. I have had symptoms for years but was never taken seriously until I fell down in front of him trying to sort out what I thought was a pinched nerve. I have probably had this incurable disease for 15 years at least. And I am relieved to at least know. And share.  my instagram family… you know who you are.

MS can affect the brain and spinal cord, leading to problems with vision, muscle spasms and fatigue. The actress appeared visibly emotional last night as she made her way across the red carpet at the annual Vanity Fair soirée.

"It took a lot to come out here," she said, as the photographers cheered her. "When my life flashes before my eyes, I want this portrait by Mark Seliger to be front and centre," the 46-year-old as the caption to the gorgeous image.

Twitter fans have expressed huge admiration for Blair, for her raising vital awareness for MS in the entertainment industry. What a warrior, we love her lewk and that cane makes it even more special.

We all remember him as Sandy in The OC, and now Peter Gallagher is taking on another big role.

The actor has been cast to star in the TV remake of Cruel Intentions and he will play the father of Ryan Phillippe's late character.

If you want to know NOTHING about the remake, stop reading now – but if not, go ahead. Peter is set to play Edward Valmont, a sexy, powerful and ruthless billionaire who owns a string of hotels.

He's into some sketchy business – some legal, and some not so much – but when he finds out he has a grandson, he's determined to show him what impossible wealth can do.

Since Sandy was such a nice guy, it'll be hard to see Peter playing a 'baddie'. But one thing's for sure, this remake is looking to be very, very good.

While we were excited to hear that Cruel Intentions was getting a television reboot, we had no idea what it would entail or whether any of the original cast would feature.

But it seems that our nineties fangirl prayers have been answered because none other than Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to return to play arguably one of her best characters.

And it seems Sarah is all but thrilled to reprise her role as the pretty detestable Kathryn Merteuil in the television sequel series as evidenced in a post to Instagram.

The now iconic film, which catapulted Reese Witherspoon's career into the stratosphere as well as Ryan Phillipe's, has been picked up by top US television network NBC.

The series will work as a sequel to the successful film, which will take place 15 years after the events of the original.

While the film is essentially a teen rom-com, it definitely had darkly comic undertones. The plot followed a wealthy step-brother and sister's wager to take the virginity of the daughter of the headmaster of their elite New York prep school.

The new series will revolve around the daughter of Sebastian and Annette and the dark plots still orchestrated by Kathryn.

"Follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her brother, who was the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove," reads a synopsis of the plot.

Yes, yes and more YES.

Now all we need is for Ryan Phillipe to sign on and we'll be satisfied.

Racy, sexy and hilarious; Cruel Intentions is everything we would want from a television series.

And lucky for us, the cult classic is officially being re-imagined as a TV show.

YAS.

While many fans would love to see the actors from the first film reprise there roles, there is no suggestion that any of the original cast is involved in the project.

Well, somebody better tell the Marcia Brady of the Upper East Side that she needs to get it together because it is time for her glorious return.

Yes, Cruel Intentions is making a major comeback. The NBC network are reportedly going to reboot the much-loved 1999 film and create a follow-up series.

Variety reports that series is supposed to follow Bash Casey, the 16-year old son of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s characters.

"Upon finding his late father’s journal, Bash learns of the family legacy he didn’t know existed.”

“In search of answers, he trades his small-town Kansas upbringing for a scholarship to the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy in San Francisco and soon finds himself in a world of sex, money, power, and corruption he never could have imagined.”

Sound similar to another TV series that fans absolutely loved? Yup, we’re getting some Gossip Girl vibes to be honest. Which could be fantastic.

The same team who were behind the Cruel Intentions Musical, Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin are writing and producing the series.

The musical was a hit, especially after social media went into meltdown when Reese, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair reunited at a performance.

We look forward to seeing how the TV revival of one of our favourite films will shape up. In the meantime, let us take a trip down memory lane:

It’s one of those iconic films that is loved by teens universally, but two kids who are not about to sit down to watch Cruel Intentions anytime soon are Reese Witherspoon’s and Ryan Phillippe’s children.

Now that the couple’s kids are getting older (daughter Ava is 15, while son Deacon is 11) the possibility of them tuning into the movie that sparked their parents’ romance is much more likely, and Reese opened up on the topic during an interview this week.

The mother-of-three need not be too worried about any awkwardness however, as she revealed that Ava and Deacon are completely uninterested in checking out this, or in fact any other movies of hers!

“They don’t have any interest in seeing me in movies. It’s weird for them. They’re like, ‘This is so weird!’ And especially seeing me and their dad having sex. It’s so weird. Not interested,” said the Hot Pursuit star.

Reese, who was married to Phillippe for eight years, added: “They have this Cruel Intentions play in L.A. that’s like a musical, so I was going to take them to that. But they haven’t seen the movie.”

We’re not surprised to hear their thoughts on the film – could you imagine the mortification of it all?
