Jim Carrey will face a wrongful death lawsuit of his Irish ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White.

The actor tried to get the suit thrown out of court, however a judge has confirmed the trial will go ahead.

The US judge said that Jim used his "wealth, influence and celebrity status" to provide Cathriona with prescription drugs, which she overdosed on.

The make-up artist's mother and husband are pursuing the lawsuit, and their lawyer said: "In light of the court's recent rulings entirely in our favour, we look forward to the trial in April.

"The public deserves to know the truth."

Press Association also claim that Mr Carrey requested privacy regarding his health, however the judge ruled that the jury should hear medical evidence regarding the claims that the actor gave Ms White three STIs.

Just weeks on from the announcement that Cathriona White's estranged husband, Mark Burton, had initiated legal action against Jim Carrey, Cathriona's family have announced the same intention.

Cathriona, a make-up artist from Tipperary who died in Los Angeles in September 2015, had been dating the Hollywood star at the time of her death, and it appears her family feel he played a part in her untimely demise.

Confirming their intention to file against the Bruce Almighty star, Brigid Sweetman said: "As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is."

"A man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs."

According to a statement obtained by ET Online, Cathriona's mother said: "Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter."

"And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did," she added.

Supporting her late daughter's estranged husband's suspicions about the 54-year-old actor, Bridgid added: "Every mother and father that has a daughter should read Cat’s handwritten letter to Jim and decide for themselves what kind of a guy he really is."

Responding to developments this week, Carrey's attorney, Marty Singer, said: "It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame."

"But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer's attempt to capitalize on Cathriona's suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona's green-card 'husband,' Mark Burton," he added.

Cathriona's mother filed the lawsuit in Los Angels on Tuesday.

Jim Carrey has released a statement after being sued for wrongful death by the estranged husband of his late girlfriend Cathriona White.

A coroner previously ruled that Cathriona, a native of Tipperary, took her own life Los Angeles last September, but Mark Burton, who was still married to Cathriona at the time of her death, has contradicted the ruling.

Filing a case against Jim Carrey, Burton claims Mr. Carrey provided Cathriona with prescription medication, saying: "Carrey wrongfully and illegally obtained these drugs in clear violation of California law."

Further to this, he accused Carrey of trying to "conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability in Miss White's untimely and tragic death".

Speaking out in the aftermath of the legal filing, the 54-year-old actor released a statement denying all accusations.

"What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world," it read.

"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control," the star insisted.

"I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace," he added.

Speaking to E!, legal expert, Troy Slaten, offered his assessment of the case, saying: "To prevail in this civil wrongful death lawsuit, the plaintiff must prove that Jim Carrey was the 'proximate cause' of this woman's death."

"In order for the police to investigate Jim Carrey on this matter, they have to believe that, one, a crime occurred and, two, Carrey likely committed the crime." Troy continued.

"After the police fully investigate a case, they present it to the district attorney with a recommendation. It's up to the district attorney to decide whether and what kind of criminal charges are to be filed."

"Even if Jim Carrey loses this lawsuit, he does not face any jail time arising out of this civil litigation." he added.

The funeral service of Cathriona White, who died in Los Angeles late last month, has now taken place.

With hundreds of mourners in attendance, the 30-year-old makeup artist was laid to rest following a Mass at Our Lady Of Fatima Church in Cappawhite, Co Tipperary.

She has been buried beside her late father, Pat, who died of brain cancer in September 2012.

In attendance was the young woman’s grieving family, as well as heartbroken actor Jim Carrey – a man who had been in an on/off relationship with Cathriona since 2012.

Indeed, the Hollywood star, who has looked strained throughout the day, acted as pallbearer for the procession.

The 53-year-old had arrived in a blacked-out Mercedes people carrier and Mail Online reports that he travelled to Ireland this morning via a private jet.

In an official, heartfelt statement following her tragic death, Jim had called his love “my delicate Irish flower”. Mr Carrey also described himself as being "hit with a lightning bolt" by the news of her death.

She was found dead on September 28 in a house in the upmarket area of Sherman Oaks in California. Having been diagnosed with depression in the past, and it is believed that Ms White took an overdose of prescription pills.

Officials Stateside say they are treating her death as suicide.

Fr Tadhg Furlong, parish priest in the area, said Ms White's family and friends are faced with a life cut short, a vision not fulfilled, a dream not realised.

He continued: "In 1985 Cathriona was baptised with joy into this Christian community. We assemble now in a very different atmosphere to welcome her home.

"We gather in silent, sad, grief-stricken fáilte. At this time we welcome home one of our own."

"Cathriona's approach to life was to take on, to challenge the county, the country, the world," the priest furthemore told mourners.

"You remember the outgoing personality – the strong-willed, determined character."

And Fr Furlong then added: "Cathriona was a light to so many. Something of the light has gone out. Yet much remains.

"The light continues to shine. The light of love lives on; the love you had for Cathriona; the love she had for you."

A number of gifts were presented during the service including a sports jersey and a football to represent her love of Gaelic games, as well as family photos and make-up brushes.

Her step-sister, Sarah, gave an emotional eulogy, saying: “Cathriona had such an amazing capacity to love and to be loved.

"From growing up in Cappawhite, through to moving to Clonmel and finally settling in LA, love remained a constant in her life from beginning to end.”

However, she concluded: “Thankfully, love is not as fickle and unpredictable as life is.

“As long as you are loved, you are here. You are so loved.”

This evening, Mr Carrey posted a tribute to Cathriona on his Twitter account. Featuring a silhouette of the two of them, he also wrote 'love cannot be lost'.

Police in Californian previously told TMZ that two concerned friends originally found Cathriona’s body, while another source added that Ms White’s suicide note was addressed to Mr Carrey.

Cathriona White will be laid to rest this Saturday in her native Tipperary.

The 30-year-old was found dead at her home in California last Monday September 28, with the cause of death believed to be suicide.

A death notice was posted to RIP.ie last night, detailing funeral arrangements for Cathriona, following the release of her body by the LA County coronor's office.

The removal will take place tomorrow, October 9, from White's Funeral Home in the village of Cappawhite, with a funeral mass the following day at 11.30am.

"Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family," the Whites said in a statement last week.

The make-up artist had been dating actor Jim Carrey on-and-off for the last four years, though earlier this week it was revealed she was legally married to another man at her time of death.

"She had a husband, we have a husband as next of kin," a spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.

"We're not releasing any more information on next of kin, but we do have her as married."

A source close to Truman Show star Jim alleges that Cathriona was married but legally separated and planning to file for divorce.

"As far as Jim was concerned, Cat was separated from her husband and was going to start divorce proceedings in December," the insider told Us Weekly.

Officials confirmed that Cathriona left several suicide notes at her rented home in Sherman Oaks, along with four different kinds of prescription medication, including Ambien, Percocet, Zofran and Propranolol.

Since the make-up artist's apparent suicide, Jim has been helping Cathriona's family in a number of ways, including putting them up in a hotel in LA and helping them make plans to have her body repatriated to Ireland.

The heartbroken family of Cathriona White have made an official statement about her death.

Make-up artist Cathriona, a Tipperary native, was found dead at her rented home in Los Angeles on Monday night, with a drug overdose believed to be the cause of her death.

It's reported she left a suicide note behind for her on-off boyfriend, actor Jim Carrey.

In a touching tribute released last night, the White family mourned the passing of the 28-year-old.

"The family of Cathriona White sincerely regret the untimely passing of their beloved daughter and sister," they said in a statement to the Irish Independent.

"Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family.

"We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss."

Cathriona was raised in the small village of Cappawhite but moved to the US in 2009, aged just 22, to pursue a career in beauty.

Her career progressed over the next few years as she worked on films such as Firefly and The Online Gamer, meeting Jim Carrey in mid-2012.

Cathriona's father Pat passed away from cancer in late 2012, but she was unable to come home to Ireland for his funeral, the Irish Times states.

Over the last two years, Cathriona and Jim's relationship went through a number of rocky patches. Of late they were reported to have ended things again, though Jim made reference to her in a number of Twitter posts throughout early September.

In his own statement last night, the Truman Show actor paid tribute to an "Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil."

A post-mortem into Cathriona's death is expected to take place today.

Fans of Jim Carrey have been taking to social media this evening to express their shock at the passing of his girlfriend, Cathriona White.

The 28-year-old Tipperary-native had moved to Hollywood in 2009 to work as a make-up artist and had met the high-profile actor on a movie set in 2012.

Sadly, reports from the US this afternoon say that Ms White has taken her own life.

According to TMZ, she was found dead by friends last night and it has been furthermore reported that she had left a suicide note addressed to Mr Carrey.

Now, in a heartfelt statement, Jim has responded to the tragedy.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” he said.

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”

The 53-year-old added: “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her.

“We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Just a week ago, the talented make-up artist had dined at Malibu's upmarket Nobu restaurant.

Ms White also recently travelled to Canada – taking to Instagram to thank the Irish consulate in San Franciso for renewing her passport promptly. And earlier this year, she had shared a snap of her proudly wearing her Tipperary hurling jersey around LA.

Her most recent post was from just five days ago when she uploaded a wind-swept black-and-white snap for her 7,500 followers.

Underneath the image, people have this evening been leaving their condolences.

"Sweet Dreams @littleirishcat may flights of angels sing you to your rest xxx shocked," one sympathiser wrote.

Another said, "RIP young lady. May you find peace at last."

Meanwhile a third person stated: "At dheis Dé go bhfuil a anam. Had the pleasure of playing football with Caitríona, she was a loyal, kind and caring girl.

"Her heart was always in the right place. So sorry to hear of her loss my sympathies to all family and friends xx Rest in peace a stór."

They've been dating on/off since meeting on a movie set three years ago – and in recent months Cathriona White and Hollywood star Jim Carrey had rekindled their romance.

Tragically, however, reports from the US now say that Ms White has taken her own life.

She was aged just 28 and originally hailed from Cappawhite in Co Tipperary.

Police in Californian have told TMZ that after responding to a call last night, LAPD officers went to a local residence and discovered Cathriona's body.

It is believed that she was originally found by two concerned friends and a TMZ source added that Ms White left a suicide note addressed to Mr Carrey.

Cathriona had tweeted last Thursday: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest."

US law enforcement reportedly believe she may have died from a drugs' overdose: pills were discovered next to her body.

She and 53-year-old Jim met in 2012 while she was working as a make-up artist.

They originally dated for more than a year before breaking-up. They then began seeing each other in May of this year but are believed to have split again in the last few days.

Cathriona trained as a beauty therapist in Ireland before moving to Hollywood in 2009.
