Yearly Archives: 2023

Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan celebrated the New Year by announcing that she is expecting her first child with husband Jacob, whom she married in Ibiza in June of last year.

Holly shared the wonderful news by posting an adorable video collage of her telling Jacob the good news and attending hospital visits.

The 30-year-old is currently 18 weeks pregnant and has opened up about the couple’s journey to conceive, the sweet way she told her hubby they were expecting and her plans for the gender reveal.

Speaking to OK!, Holly explained, “Since the wedding, I’ve been tracking my ovulation and taking supplements because I can suffer from irregular periods sometimes, usually if I’m stressed”.

“The month I fell pregnant was the month we really tried. We used a method called the ‘sperm meets egg’. They call it the Baby Dance Schedule!”.

The reality TV star detailed, “From the eighth day of your cycle you’re supposed to have sex every other day. Then once you have a positive ovulation test you have sex every day for three days, then you skip a day and have sex again. It’s not the most romantic but it worked. We didn’t leave much room for error. It wasn’t some fairy tale!”.

Footballer Jacob added, “When you’re five years in it’s not like the honeymoon stage anymore. I wrote it down in my daily schedule. I was like, ‘Football training. Baby making’”.

When it came to discovering she was pregnant and figuring out the best way to tell Jacob, Holly revealed, “I found out seven days before my missed period,  it was scarily early.

“My friends were around and we were supposed to be drinking so I thought I’d better take a test just in case. I saw a very faint line, so I just had one glass of Champagne and faked it for the rest of the night. I took another test the next morning and it came up as ‘pregnant’”.

“As Jacob was away, I decided to order a baby Liverpool FC kit with ‘Baby B 23’ on the back to tell him. I wanted it to be so special as you only have your first baby once. It took three days to arrive. They were the longest three days of my entire existence!”.

Bradford (Park Avenue) FC player, Jacob explained, “I didn’t even have the slightest inclination at all. When I opened it and saw this little Liverpool kit I thought, ‘How the hell am I going to fit into that?’ Then I looked down and there was the pregnancy test. My heart stopped. I was in so much shock”.

Holly, who is due on the couple’s wedding anniversary, shared an insight into her gender reveal plans, as they will be finding out their baby’s sex at their next scan.

“We’re coinciding it with our UK wedding. The wedding part will be first for our family and friends that couldn’t come to Ibiza”.

Hagan said her UK wedding, which is taking place in February, is “Far bigger and is going to be more of a party vibe and we will do the aisle thing.

“The only reason I’m doing this is because I bought the winter wedding dress already two years ago! Thankfully it’s a bit big so the bump will fit. Then the second part of the evening will be the gender reveal”.

Now that the buzz of Christmas is quieting down and our minds are turning to 2023, we’re all buzzing to organise our next getaway! Rome, Paris, Barcelona – or maybe something more chill like a beach holiday in Crete or the South of France.

Wherever you're planning on going this year, it’s important not to jump straight back into travelling with all our old bad habits. Climate change and the past 12 months have really made us rethink some of our lifestyle choices, particularly how we travel and how our small actions can affect the bigger picture.

Make smart, eco-friendly choices when packing and planning for your next holiday with our handy cheat sheet below!

Dining and food

Person In White Shirt Holding Black Rubber Bottle

We’ve all learned lots of ways to be more eco-friendly at home with our food shop and eating out habits – so why should those stop just because we’re on holiday? Learn how to say ‘no straw please’ in your country’s language so you can skip to unnecessary add on to your cocktail on the beach and bring a reusable water bottle with you on the plane – yes it’s a few of extra grams in your carry-on, but it’s worth it to avoid all the plastic water bottles rolling around your hotel room by the end of the trip.

Woman Carrying Tote Bags

A portable cutlery set, like the bamboo ones are also a very handy thing to have if you’re doing more of a road trip style holiday for all the cool spots along the road you’ll stop to grab food. And as always, a linen or fabric tote bag will never steer you wrong – as light as pacing a pair of underwear and taking up about as much space, you’ll be thankful for it when you’re doing that first shop!

Toiletries

Top view of zero waste beauty brush and dry shampoo with inscription on brown background

We all do it – buying up the local pharmacy over there with shampoos, conditioners and body washes because we couldn’t be bothered to fill up our little travel-sized bottles that we get through in about 2 days anyway. But the large bottles aren’t even half-gone by the time we’re ready to go home! Bars of shampoo and conditioner (and eve toothpaste!) are a happy medium – easily transportable and not subject to liquid restrictions, they’re super handy to bring with you and lack of packaging mean they’re better for the environment!

Woman Seated on Textile Applying Suncsreen

On that note, things like sunscreens are important to look out for too, especially if you’re swimming. You want an SPF that will make sure you’re fully covered for UVA and UVB rays, but that will also be kind to the sea life in your local area. Lots of sunscreens are now taking their environmental impact into account and are changing their formulas to make them sea-safe, so look out for the signs that they’re not damaging the environment!

The same thing goes for insect repellent. Using a plant-based one instead of the ones full of harsh chemicals are better for local wildlife – and for you! Another eco-hack is to bring reusable makeup wipes – something we should all be using anyway!

That’s why we’re determined to read more brilliant books this year. To help reach our goals, and to help fellow book-lovers out there, we’ve put together the ultimate list of fabulous books being released in 2023 that we can’t wait to get our hands on.

We're all guilty of it.

You're half way through your second shampoo when the empty can of shaving foam you meant to replace catches your eye.

In an attempt to make up for your inconvenient, albeit unsurprising, forgetfulness, you reach for the nearest bottle of shower gel or conditioner, because hey, it's all the same at the end of the day, right?

Well, as it turns out, it's really not.

Dermatologist Dr. Anita Sturnman told Popsugar that while it may seem like a trustworthy substitute, using shower gel, conditioner or shampoo in place of actual shaving foam is actually doing you more harm than good.

It seems that by using products that weren't designed to be used in conjunction with a razor, we're actually making it harder for ourselves to achieve a close shave.

"Shaving has a naturally exfoliating mechanism of action, so you need to use products that are designed to work in synergy with your razor and improve glide, reduce friction, and the risk of irritation and cuts," she explained.

"These formulations will coat the hairs, making them thicker and more difficult to shave."

She went on to explain how some products can clog razors, meaning they'll become blunt even quicker, costing you money in the long run.

So, if you're after close shave that won't cost you an arm and a (silky smooth) leg, ditch the makeshift formulas and instead invest in a good quality shaving cream.
