Painting your nails requires time and patience otherwise it just ends up all over your fingers. Lucky for you, we are going to share our top nail hacks for a perfect, long lasting polish.

Vaseline
If you are prone to a few polish mishaps, dab a little Vaseline around your nails to make cleaning up that bit easier.

Rub the bottle
Don’t shake your nail polish bottle. Instead, rub it between your hands before using it as this will avoid a build up of air bubbles.

Use layers of colour
Use a  white nail polish under your chosen top layer to really make the colour stand out or use two layers of the top coat – there’s no need to skimp on your polish.

Reinforce your tips
Use two layers of basecoat to make sure your polish doesn’t chip. paint the top half of your nail with the base colour and then cover the entire nail. The extra coat at the top will help prevent chips.

And remember, make sure you give your nails time to dry. A smudged nail will just be a waste of your time and efforts.

Could Kelly Brook’s whirlwind engagement be over already?

The model was clearly missing her engagement ring as she took a selfie during her lunch break yesterday.

Kelly got engaged to David McIntosh last month and was rumoured to have purchased the ring herself.

The photo comes after reports that the couple have been heard having “huge rows in public” by a neighbour in L.A.

This wasn’t the first snap Kelly has taken where her ring-less left hand is the focus.

Lately there’s been so much buzz around trendy nutritional newbies like acai and kale that traditional fruits and vegetables are sometimes treated like yesterday’s news.

But researchers are discovering new reasons to get excited about some of the good old fashioned staples.

Celery
This crunchy delight is back on the must-eat list as a potential cancer fighter. It’s a top source of a flavonoid called apigenin. Researchers recently discovered that over time, a diet containing apigenin-rich foods may help prevent the disease.

Grapes
The skins of these fruit snacks are bursting with resveratrol, the same antioxidant that helps make red wine good for your heart. Now a study has discovered that resveratrol may also aid in boosting immunity — by helping increase levels of a molecule that kills bacteria and viruses.

Mushrooms
For years fungi have been thought to be heart healthy and immunity boosting.  Now science shows that they may even help prevent breast cancer by lowering oestrogen levels.

Peppers
Research shows that smokers have a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s, a disease characterised by a loss of brain cells that make dopamine. No doctor would encourage lighting up, but there may be another way to get the benefit: peppers. They’re a safe and small source of nicotine, which may protect dopamine-producing cells.

This new advert by Pedigree is by far the cutest and most clever we’ve seen.

Although all it does is feature many amazingly adorable dogs, there is some good thinking behind it.

If a video goes viral on YouTube, the money from advertising is shared with the video maker – in this case, Pedigree!

That’s right, all you have to do to give your bit to dogs in need is watch (and share) this video!

New research claims to show how the position you sleep in with your partner can reveal the strength of your relationship.

The key is the distance between couples, according to the study of 1,100 people, which was published today at the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

The study, which expands on work by psychiatrist Samuel Dunkell, claims that partners who sleep less than an inch apart are far more likely to be happy together than those maintaining a gap wider than 30 inches.

The study says that people who lie curled up in the ‘full foetal’ position are likely to be indecisive, anxious and sensitive to criticism from their partner.

Those who sleep in a ‘semi-foetal’ position, with their knees drawn up, are amenable to compromise with their other half, and unlikely to take extreme stances, the study said.

People who sleep in the ‘royal’ position – flat on their back – tend to be confident, open, expansive, and sensation-seeking when it comes to their love life, the study said.

The study claimed that those who lie on their face show a tendency for rigidity and perfectionism, which can lead to problems in a relationship.

Apparently couples tend to be happier if they fall asleep face-to-face than if they ‘spoon’ their partners, facing the same direction, or if they face in opposite directions.

Untouched images of Lady Gaga’s ad campaign for Versace have been leaked online.

We all know that models and celebs are airbrushed and perfected for magazine – but it’s still an important message for women to realise this.

The campaign is for Versace’s spring 2014 collection and features a blonde Gaga surrounded by designer bags.

The untouched images are significantly different to the airbrushed, though we still think Gaga looks lovely.

Just as with the untouched images of Lena Dunham in Vogue, this proves we don’t need airbrush and the fashion industry should try to encourage natural beauty.

Mad Men fans have been given a glimpse of show costume designer Janie Bryant’s upcoming collection of hosiery which will be released this autumn.

The affordable collection, priced between $18 and $35, is called Janie Bryant Leg Couture, and is expected to be sold in stores in the U.S, including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Dillard’s.

The designer said of the line, “I wanted to fill the place in the market for women to be able to buy legwear that is beautifully designed with amazing details, but also at an amazing price. It’s definitely about affordable luxury.”

The Emmy-winner, whose previous costuming credits include Deadwood, says that she has a “true passion for legs,” and thinks that when properly approached, tights can be the most interesting part of an outfit.

Designs include delicate fishnet tights and full lace leg looks.

“Leg Couture is for the modern woman, even though [the line includes] some vintage-inspired styles like the seam-back stay-up and the sun-kissed stay-up,” she said.

The collection already has a celebrity fan in Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks who said of the line: “I can’t wait to wear the Janie Bryant Leg Couture tights. Janie is such an amazing designer and really knows how to fit a woman’s body to flatter all shapes.”
