Apparently the royal family are just like the rest of us! They love watching TV too, we knew it couldn’t be all grand tea parties and walks with the corgis.

Queen Elizabeth is a massive Downton Abbey fan, obviously.

According to the Telegraph the Queen “loves Downton Abbey”. However, she also “likes to spot historical mistakes” in the series.

Brian Hoey, the author of At Home with the Queen revealed that the series came up in conversation with a worker at Buckingham Palace.

“We were talking about Trooping the Colour and how the Queen always notices if anything is not quite right, such as one young officer she spotted wearing his medals in the wrong order not long ago.”

The eagle-eyed royal also takes this attention to detail to her favourite television shows too:

“She loves watching Downton Abbey and pointing out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed. She used to stay there as a guest of the Carnarvon family.”

Amongst the royal family the Queen is not the only Downton fangirl. Kate Middleton is apparently also a “huge” fan and makes William watch it with her.

While Prince Charles is apparently said to not be as keen on Downton the Queen also has some other favourites to choose from.

In 2011 she was reported to have told Mary Byrne, a former X Factor contestant, that she has her staff record every episode.

Oh no, Prince Philip has made a royal faux pas yet AGAIN.

Queen Elizabeth II’s husband made headlines last week when he told a photographer to hurry up and “just take the f***ing picture.”

Now, the 94-year-old has done it again during a visit to the Chadwell Heath Community Centre in London alongside his wife yesterday afternoon.

Many readers took offence when Prince Philip was speaking to a group of female nurses at the centre and asked them, “who do you sponge off?”

ITV News quoted Nusrat Zamir as saying, “We’re all married, so it’s our husbands.”

The nurse explained that Prince Philip was “just teasing and it’s similar to what I call my husband – the wallet.”

Prince Philip is famous for making inappropriate comments when on Royal outings. While many people view him with the same eyes you would the lovable grandad you can’t bring anywhere for fear of what they'll say, many others feel that as a senior figure of the monarchy, his comments are not acceptable.

Here are some of the Prince’s most outrageous comments to date.

1. An event for The Battle of Britain. Prince Philip tells the photographer to "take the f***ing picture."

2. On a trip to China in 1986, the Prince told a British student that if he stayed there much longer, he'd "go home with slitty eyes."

3. In 2002, he asked and Aboriginal leader, William Brin, in Australia if the aborigines "still throw spears at each other?" Mr Brin replied saying, "No, we don't do that any more." When he was asked about the incident Mr Brin said that while he was "quite surprised" by the question, he found it very funny.

4. When Prince Philip met the President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjoy, Mr Obasanjoy was in his ceremonial dress. The Prince remarked on this saying, "You look like you're ready for bed."

5. When Ashely Banjo's dance group Diversity won Britain's Got Talent in 2009, the Prince did it again by asking the multi-ethnic group, "Are you all one family?"

6. When speaking to Lord John Taylor of Warwick – a Briton of Jamaican origin – the Prince asked, "What exotic part of the world do you come from?" To which the Lord politely replied, "Birmingham".

7. When Prince Philip visited the Cayman Islands in 1994, he somewhat surprised the natives by asking, "Aren't most of you descended from pirates?"

After just four weeks of maternity leave, Kate Middleton is looking set to return to her royal duties.

With the Queen’s birthday parade looming on 13th June, it has been reported that the Queen is expecting the Duchess of Cambridge to be there.

This four weeks maternity leave is even shorter than the 39 days the Duchess took after the birth of her son, Prince George, in 2013.

A source close to the royals told OK US that the Queen “thinks a month is more than enough time for Kate to take off before she should return to performing her royal duties.”

This will be Kate’s first public event since the birth of her daughter, Princess Charlotte. The whole world will be watching and we already can’t wait to see what elegant ensemble she will be donning this time.

Meanwhile it’s already business as usual for William who jetted of to Switzerland last week for his first public duty since the birth of his daughter.

Four weeks isn’t a long time but we are already dying to see some more family snaps now that Kate is almost back!
