December may be a week away, but it's fair to say Christmas party season is already in full swing.

And as well as being synonymous with shifting the wrong person and waking up with a pounding head, it's also the time of year when you go big or go home on the manicure front.

While you may opt for muted shades throughout the rest of the year, the festive season gives you carte blanche to go batsh*t crazy with those nails of yours.

If you're only dying to mix it up, but have found yourself stuck for some inspiration, worry not, because we've got you covered.

1. Doing it right.

2. What more can we say?

3. Oh, yes.

4. Nailed it.

6. Lovin' the matte finish.

Getting a manicure is one of those things that just makes us feel 'done.'

Rather than committing to falsies or nail extensions, we love a good slick of Shellac to keep our digits looking on point.

As the year draws to a close, CND have revealed the most popular Shellac nail shades of 2018 – and the list-topper definitely isn't surprising.

Taking the crown as the most popular is FieldFox.

Often raved about by bloggers and influencers, the taupe shade is the perfect low maintenance shade for nude nail lovers.

In second place is a ravishing red, in the shade Wildfire.

The colour proves that a classic red nail will truly never go out of fashion.

We can see this being a firm favourite at this time of the year, perhaps with a top coat of high-impact red glitter?

In third place, we have Negligee, a powdery pale nude favoured by brides the nation over.

Negligee is the ideal 'your nails, but better' shade that looks stunning and understated.

Did you opt for any of these shades in 2018?

If you consider yourself to be a big fan of cool manicures, then the following may send you over the edge…

The shattered glass manicure effect is sweeping Instagram, and we are in LOVE with it.

Now OBVIOUSLY it's not real glass (that would be dangerous ladies) but it’s actually thin slivers of cellophane (think shinier cling film) arranged on the nail to reflect light.

The results are pretty darn cool, and will guarantee you all the likes on Insta.

The trend started in South Korea (of course) recently, and has been growing in popularity ever since.

We cannot WAIT to try this look!

Getting ready for a big night out can often be the best part of the entire night.

Getting the girls around for 'a few' pre-drinks while everyone primps and preens themselves over a glass of gin & tonic is where the goss is divulged, and sometimes leaving the house for the club gets pushed back later and later thanks to the catch ups

I'm usually a no fuss, no frills kind of girl, and if my hair gets brushed before hitting the bar, I consider myself made up.

Dry & Fly Blow Dry Beauty Bar, nestled on the second floor above L'Occitane on Wicklow Street, is designed with the sole purpose of bringing women together for some quality time, all while getting pampered ahead of a night out.

I went along to see exactly what pre drinks pampering was all about, and to get a sneak peek of what is destined to be one of Dublin's buzziest salons.

The city centre space is, for want of a better term, Instagram-worthy, with a modern but feminine aesthetic, assisted by the paint washed exposed brick, pink neon signs and copper accents.

Steven, the giant dog statue, who looks like a piece of art, is actually a speaker imported from France for the sole purpose of bringing the ultimate ladies night playlist to Dry & Fly's clients, adds to the ambience.

The blow drying stations are positioned specifically so that groups of gal pals can get their hair and nails done as a group ahead of an event, and the salon offers each client a glass of Glendalough gin and tonic garnished with blood orange and rosemary (delish) or a glass of Prosecco to get the party started.

The beauty bar even boasts a DJ booth, where local DJs spin tracks on Friday and Saturday nights while clients enjoy their luxurious blowdries.

Andrew O'Neill, one of the founders and visionaries behind the salon, sought to create a cool, collective experience for women to go straight from the salon to their destination, freshly made up and ready to take the town.

Big, bouncy blow outs are the aim of the creative stylists at Dry & Fly, and and their look book features all the classics, from the sleek and straight glossy blow out to Hollywood waves.

For those feeling a little more experimental, the salon stylists are also well versed in festival braids, dramatic pony tails and up-dos.

The salon deal exclusively with Kevin Murphy hair products, a staple in the beauty arsenals of both beauty bloggers and professional hair stylists across the country.

Gin in hand and after a quick flick through the salon's look book, I settled on the Ty Twist blow dry, a beachy, bouncy look that gave life to my long and admittedly lifeless locks.

I opted for the full experience, getting my hair washed in one of the salon's comfy basins, with a full view of the painted letters on the ceiling, which read 'relax, you're not cheating on your hairdresser.'

You can also come in with your hair washed and just go straight for a dry blow out.

I sat down in one of the socially set-out chairs to have my hair and nails done simultaneously, feeling like I was one pink silk robe away from a backstage Victoria's Secret moment.

The salon seats, laid out so that friends can face each other and chat, were ideal for receiving both treatments at once.

Having two stylists working on my hair and nails seemed like the ultimate pinnacle of having notions, but hey, who doesn't want to feel like they're working with a Kardahian-esque glam squad at least once in their lives?

The salon is open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday for those pre-night out blow dry sessions, and from 7am to 7pm through the rest of the week.

Check it out for yourself at www.dryandfly.com.

Stand out nail art is one way to spice up your beauty routine, and from fur nails to knitted nails, there are plenty of trends to choose from.

However if you prefer a more pared back look but want to add a flash of creativity, look no further than the flip manicure.

The flip manicure involves rocking some fancy af designs on the flip side of your nails, which, admittedly, is pretty bizarre, but a great way to add a pop of colour to a usually muted manicure.

Painting painstaking designs to the back of your nails is definitely the territory of a professional nail artist, but adding another colour or even a pop of glitter is definitly DIY-able.

The trend was started by R'n'B songstress Ciara all the way back in 2014, but it's only starting to catch on amongst us mere mortals.

Here's a few of our favourite flip manis from Instagram.

We've never really considered embellishing the underside of our nails, but now that we know about this trend it's going to be pretty hard to resist.

Mentally adding it to our beauty regime list.

When we think of summer style we always envision having a fabulous on trend manicure or pedicure to complete our look. Nothing makes you feel more like you have got it all together than on point nails.

It can make you feel super glam and ready to take on anything the summer social calendar has to throw at you. Just one little thing, it can very time consuming.

We don’t always have the spare time to ensure our meticulously applied manicures are ready for the big bad world. Sometimes it can also be a bit of an effort to get to your favourite salon and let the professionals do their thing.

Fear not, the good people at Kiss have got you covered this summer season.

Their imPRESS Press-on Manicure nails take all the effort out of getting your nails done so you are free to get out there and enjoy the sunshine.

Some our personal favourites for instant manicures include the cool lilac ‘Epic Win’ (epic name). The ‘Wink Wink’ tie-die effect is all we really want in our lives.

Also, if you’re really feeling those summer vibes, there’s the bright yellow ‘Still Chill’ colour. Perfect for sunny days at the beach, or anywhere really.

Let’s not forget the perfect pedicure! The imPRESS pedicure range has a huge selection of colours and designs to make sure your toes are completely summer ready.

If you’re not ready to embrace the neon pink of ‘Pop Rocks’, imPRESS have something for everyone. The ‘Let It Go & Glow’ nails are a classic French manicure with a little added sparkle detailing. Flawless.

The best part about these nails is that they really don’t eat into any of your important downtime.

Applying them is easy, all you have to do is peel off the sticker and then press for a high-shine manicure that lasts for up to a week. Also, they cost less than a tenner. Winning!

Who doesn’t love getting their nails done? It’s one of life’s simple pleasures that we just really enjoy. What we don’t enjoy however, is that sometimes it leaves some not so fun after effects.

We take lots of precautions for our skin and our hair when it comes to tanning and dying, so why should our nails be any different?

We gathered up a few straightforward tips for you to ensure that the next time you’re getting your favourite manicure, you’re not doing any unnecessary damage to your nails.

Go for LED not UV

Long term exposure to UV rays is bad for your skin leading to premature aging and spotting. Do a Google search and check if your favourite salon offers an LED light to avoid leaving the salon with hands old before your years.

Soak it off, don't peel.

Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as Taylor’s catching jingle, we know. Peeling off chipped polish can be satisfying, like popping bubble wrap (which is soon going to be taken from us, devastated). But you’re risking exposing your nails to some gross bacteria. So try avoid it where possible.

Try a nail wrap instead

They provide an extra layer of protection for your nails, and you have countless customised wraps to choose from. Also, if these babies are salon applied, they can last for quite a long time. Also, they tend to be a little cheaper than other options.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

It’s probably not what you want to hear, because we do all love to treat ourselves to a sweet manicure from time to time. However, going overboard on the nail art is apparently not so good for you. Your nails need a break from time to time. Then when you head back the salon, your healthy nails will be absolutely flawless.

Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Lion as he likes to go by now, got a pretty impressive and expensive manicure recently but it wasn’t received well by most.

50cent took to his Instagram account to display his feelings about the whole thing. Sharing a picture of the  Drop It like It’s Hot rapper showing off his nails, 50cent wrote: “What the f*** is going on snoop. Talk to me about this one man,Damn #smsaudio”.

Fans of 50cent didn’t like the American rapper’s new style with one commenting: “No way! This is not cool at all …” Another wrote: “I we thought this guy was a “Gangsta” lmaooooo!! [sic]”

Unfortunately, the nails didn’t come cheap as they reportedly cost $400 to get done, so we’re not surprised Snoop wanted to show them off. According to TMZ, the rapper didn’t even have to leave his house in order to get his manicure as two women went to his home to do them.
