coronation street

The newlywed Wright couple obviously aren’t keen on sitting back and relaxing any longer.

Since their recent wedding one half of the pair has been experiencing something of a career boom.

Between her new gig as a blogger for Hello!, her successful Lipsy fashion line and her new gig with BBC series Our Girl, Michelle Keegan seems to be seriously going places.

But what about her husband, you ask?

Mark Wright, former Towie star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant seems to be taking a bit of a backseat career-wise – save for furiously keeping his social media accounts regularly updated.

Ohhhhh yessss

However, in between gushing over his lovely new wife, and photographing his over-the-top McDonalds order, Mark has managed to squeeze in his latest venture: just this week he launched his new fragrance range.

Mark has admitted previously that he has taken to stealing his former Coronation Street star wife’s beauty products. And apparently her moisturiser is one of his favourites.

No surprise then that Mark has also noted that Michelle weighed in on his final selections for his own fragrances. Speaking to Mail Online Mark said; “I trusted her judgement and choice of scent and I went with what she loved.”

We would trust her judgement too seeing as the one-time soap star seems to be on a winning streak since the pair married last month.

Mark has been collecting after shaves for years and the famously well-groomed reality TV star said he thinks that a man’s scent is most important.

Although, he has said in the past that he only takes 20 minutes to get ready for his day.

'I get in the shower, do my hair, get ready, apply my Sisley moisturiser and a spray of my new fragrance and I’m out the door.'

And yes, this IS Michelle Keegan and NOT her Hollywood doppelgänger that we are talking about.

The 28-year-old newlywed has just landed the role of Georgia Lane in BBC1’s drama, Our Girl. Michelle’s new lead role as Georgia will see her playing a female army medic in Kenya.

That is certainly a long way from the Rovers Return Inn!

The show is going into its second season, and Michelle is taking over the role from actress Lacey Turner.

A spokesperson for BBC told the Sunday People that, “It won’t be an easy posting as she has to earn the love and trust of her fellow soldiers, and the greater respect of her commanding officer, while working alongside aid workers in the world’s biggest refugee camp.”

BBC execs were reportedly very impressed with Ms Keegan’s acting skills on Ordinary Lies, where she played a drug mule.

A source from BBC explained their casting choice, saying that the former Corrie star is “talented and hugely popular.”

It’s a good thing that Michelle and new hubby Mark Wright enjoyed their honeymoon because it looks like she is in for some seriously hard work!

It's now official: Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan are husband and wife.

They said their vows this afternoon in front of 120 of their nearest and dearest, including Towie's Lydia Bright and James Argent, Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent and Antony Cotton, as well as Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

The 27-year old bride walked up the aisle to Shania Twain's From This Moment On.

A member of the choir who sang at the ceremony afterwards commented to The Mirror that while Michelle was remarkably composed throughout, Mark was "a little bit emotional" and shed a few tears. "It was a lovely service," they added.

Unusually, Boney M's By The Rivers Of Babylon was among the featured music.

The pair hadn't seen each other since Friday afternoon, opting to spend the final 48hours before their Big Day apart.

Accompanied by his eight groomsmen and travelling in a giant stretch Hummer, Mr Wright, 28, had turned up at 12.20pm at the pretty St Mary's Church in the town of Bury St Edmunds in the east of England.

Ms Keegan, however, kept everyone waiting a full half an hour – arriving accompanied by her father, Michael, a little after 1.30pm.

The bride had her heart set on a horse-drawn carriage, but security and privacy concerns necessitated a last-minute swap to a white vintage car – complete with blacked-out windows.

Crowds of local residents had lined the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the pair, but a €1.7m glossy magazine deal meant they were left disappointed.

Still, eagle-eyed bystanders observed that Mark was dressed in a swish black tuxedo and bow-tie. Spectators also noted that the seven bridesmaids on duty wore baby blue, floor-length dresses with diamante detailing on the shoulders.

The wedding party later transferred to the opulent Hengrave Hall in Suffolk, a 16th-century manor, for a lavish reception.

On the menu was the likes of posh fish 'n' chips, and savoury pies with mashed potato.

This evening, a further 100 invitees joined them for top-notch entertainment, fireworks, and yet more delicious food including €25-a-pop kebabs sourced from one of the couple's favourite restaurants. A cocktail bar, fairground carousel, and candy cart are all also on offer.

DJ Pat Sharp, who knows Mark from their stint together on I'm a Celebrity back in 2011, told Mail Online today that he will be playing a set this evening.

Mark and Michelle got engaged just nine months after meeting. It has been reported that in total they will end up forking-out €1.4m on their various wedding celebrations.

It is not know yet where they will honeymoon, but it is believed that they have been offered an all expenses trip to Dubai, the city where they first met in December 2012.

Michelle Keegan might be busy planning her upcoming wedding to fiancé Mark Wright, but it looks like she's got an even more exciting project to deal with first.

The former Coronation Street star is set to star in her very first feature film, a dark comedy set on the streets of Manchester. Filming has already begun on the movie, Strangeways, Here We Come, which is being produced by Penny Dreadful star Stephen Lord.

The film follows the lives of Salford residents who live under the thumb of the imposing loan shark Danny Nolan, played by Stephen.

Michelle took to Twitter yesterday to share the good news with her fans, posting a picture of herself from the film's make-up room with the caption, "1st day of filming on my new job! #backtoit"

Michelle returned to TV screens last month in the BBC drama Ordinary Lies, her first role since quitting Coronation Street last May.

The actress says it was daunting moving on from the popular ITV soap, especially under the watchful eyes of the media.

"I felt there was so much pressure after leaving Corrie. I knew I had to make the right decision about my first role. Everyone was waiting to see what I did and getting ready to judge me if I made a mistake," she told the Daily Star.

With two new roles on the go, it looks like Michelle is doing just fine so far!

It has been announced that Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding will be joining the cast of Coronation Street.

Although the role is a guest one and will only last for four episodes, Sarah is set to make big trouble on the cobbles – especially for Tracy Barlow. We already can’t wait!

The singer and TV star spoke of her excitement about the role, saying: “I am extremely excited to be joining Coronation Street. As a fan of the show it is a huge honour for me to join the cast. I can’t wait to get started!”

Sarah isn't the only member of Girls Aloud to make an appearance on the popular soap as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini also made a highly anticipated cameo in the Rovers Return back in 2013.

We can't wait to see what sort of story surrounds the pop star during her guest appearance on Coronation Street

While we all wait with baited breath and try to conjure up any bit of patience left in us before Thursday, we took a look back at some other soap storylines that had us hooked.

1. Lucy Beale’s murder (EastEnders)
This storyline deserves first place for the freaky trailers alone – Lucy's eyes are haunting us! Only three more days…

2. Tram crash 2010 (Coronation Street)
One of the most terrifying moments in soap history – just when you think it's all ok, BAM and Ken spots a tram. It took us ages to get back on the Luas after this.

3. Richard Hillman-gate (Coronation Street)
His iciness alone was enough to make us feel for Gail. And when the car went into the water…that was intense TV.

4. When Ronnie stole Kat Moon’s baby (EastEnders)
It took FOUR months for Ronnie to finally tell Kat the truth – and it was a loooong four months!

5. Tina’s murder (Coronation Street)
It missed the 'whodunnit' aspect of Lucy Beale's murder but it has to be said, waiting for justice to be served was tense!

Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote is set to finish up on the show very soon – but that's not the only part of her life she'll be leaving behind.

Georgia, who plays Katy Armstrong in the long-running soap, has also reportedly dumped her fiancé and long-term love John Sage. The pair have been together since their early teens and got engaged two years ago.

However according to The Sun, Georgia  broke the news to friends and cast members at her leaving do that she had said goodbye to John and was planning a move to the US to further her career. "She was telling everyone they'd split up and she was looking forward to a future acting career in America" said a source from the show.

"Everyone was very surprised because she has been very happy with him and never been interested in a showbiz lifestyle. But this will be a new start for her."

It was revealed last week that Katy Armstrong's departure from Weatherfield will be linked to her reunion with her estranged mother Linda, and that she will flee the cobbles for sunny Portugal.

Speaking on This Morning yesterday, Georgia said she was gutted to be leaving Coronation Street but that the time was right. "I’m a bit sad – obviously I’m going to miss loads of people, the crew, the production team, my cast mates and all that, but I’m ready…It’s been nearly five years now so it’s a long stint to do there and I’m excited.”

Sounds like there are lots of big changes ahead for the actress!

Wedding bells are ringing in Weatherfield today!

Mikey North, who plays Gary Windass on Coronation Street, has revealed that he's engaged to his girlfriend of two years, Rachael Isherwood.

The actor announced the happy news in a recent interview with OK! magazine, saying he was "shaking like a leaf" before he popped the question.

Mikey surprised Rachael by getting down on one knee during a romantic trip to England's Lake District. "I've always told her that if and when I propose, she'd never see it coming," he said.

"We were staying in a lovely hotel in the Lake District and we were getting ready for dinner when I told her I had a birthday surprise for her outside… I told her to shut her eyes. When she opened them I was down on one knee with the ring."

As for the ring, Rachael said she barely even noticed the sparkler because she was so shocked. "I was really happy and, at the time, I didn't care about the ring. I was like 'come here and give me a hug!'" she said.

Aaaaw!

Mikey and Rachael met on a night out in 2013, and the Coronation Street actor said he knew instantly that Rachael was special. "I saw her and watched her across the bar, in probably a quite creepy way!" he said. "When I first saw Rachael I turned to my friend and said: 'That is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.' I knew straight away."

Congrats to the happy couple!

Yesterday, Anne Kirkbride, who played the Corrie star for 42 years passed away after a short illness.

From the style to the many ups and downs of her love life, here are ten reasons we just loved Deirdre Barlow:

Fans of Coronation Street were left shocked yesterday after it was announced that Anne Kirkbride had passed away, aged 60. Anne, who played the role of Deirdre Barlow for 42 years died following a short illness in Manchester last night.

She was such a loving and vibrant person. You always knew she was there because her laugh was never far away.”

Kate Ford, who plays Anne’s on-screen daughter, Tracy also paid tribute to the actress on Twitter: “Heartbroken at the loss of my friend and beautiful on screen mummy. The most crazy funny 100 per cent human. My life was enriched by her.”

Well, that ended fast!

Although her new role on Coronation Street was just announced by ITV bosses last week, actress Katie Redford has already been sacked from the show.

Katie was lined up to play the role of Sarah Platt's 14-year-old daughter Bethany, but she was quickly fired after revelations emerged that she was 25, and not 19 as she claimed.

An official press release published by ITV on Friday stated the actress' age as 19, but fans were quick to correct the channel bosses after seeing information online which indicated she was actually born in 1989, making her 11 years older than her character.

The actress' former Twitter handle was @katieredford89, though it was later changed to @katieredfordtlc. This online CV also lists Katie's year of birth as 1989:

At 25, Katie is just six years younger than actress Tina O'Brien who plays Bethany's mum Sarah.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed that the role would be recast and that producers already have another actress in mind.

The character of Bethany was last seen on the show in 2007 after she moved to Italy with Sarah, but the pair will return to the Weatherfield cobbles as regular characters this year. The role of Bethany in her younger years was played by actresses Mia Cookson, Amy Walton and Emily Walton.
