Three low-calorie cocktails to try this weekend

If you're in the mood for a few drinks with the girls this weekend  but don't want to lose momentum in your dieting progress, why not opt for homemade cocktails instead?

That way, you can control exactly what you're drinking, and how many calories you're taking in.

We're big fans of these low-calorie but tasty recipes, and they're as foolproof as you can get…

Summer Spritzer
The perfect refreshing cocktail that takes 30 seconds to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 measure vodka
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • Soda water
  • 2 mint leaves

Method

  1. Add vodka and lemon juice to a tumbler with three ice cubes
  2. Stir and top with soda water
  3. Stir again and garnish with mint leaves

 

Pomegranate Delight
If you can get your hands on sugar-free or light simple syrup, swap it in here.

Ingredients

  • 1 measure gin
  • 2/3 measure lemon juice
  • 1/3 measure simple syrup or agave nectar
  • Sparkling water
  • Splash of pomegranate juice

Method

  1. Add gin, lemon juice and simple syrup to a highball glass with ice
  2. Fill with sparkling water or soda water almost to the top of the glass
  3. Finish with a splash of pomegranate juice and stir

 

Grapefruit and Basil Martini
A contemporary classic.

Ingredients

  • 2 basil leaves
  • 1 measure grapefruit juice
  • 1.5 measure gin
  • 1 measure simple syrup 
  • Splash of prosecco or sparkling wine

Method

  1. Muddle basil and grapefruit juice in a shaker
  2. Add syrup and gin and shake vigorously with ice for at least 45 seconds
  3. Strain into a martini glass and top with a splash of prosecco/sparkling wine.
