With 80,000 students set to benefit from the SUSI grant, be ready to get your applications in.

The scheme will reopen today for renewal and new applications for all students attending third-level colleges in the academic year of 2017/18.

Since first being set up in 2012, the grant scheme looks to give eligible students around €6,000 over the course of the academic year.

According to the Irish Times, there is a huge demand for student grants this year, mainly due to the availability of maintenance grants.

Student Universal Support Ireland, which administers the scheme, believes 105,000 applications will come their way over the coming days.

Out of those, around 80,000 are expected to be eligible, which will mean €380m in student support will be provided.

There are also various other grants available this year, including ones for mature students and PLC students, so if you want more info, you can check out this website.
