Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan's latest film has already broken a seriously impressive record.

Rotten Tomatoes is notorious for it's hyper critical reviewers, but Lady Bird has become the best rated movie on the site.

The movie has a 100% rating from 164 critics.

Toy Story 2 previously held the record for the most positively rated movie on the website.

'1999′s Toy Story 2 originally made the record with 163 Fresh reviews, and today, Lady Bird – Greta Gerwig’s coming-of-age circa 2002 film, starring Saoirse Ronan – sets the new standard with 164 Fresh reviews (and counting),' reads a statement from Rotten Tomatoes.

The film follows Saoirse Ronan as Lady Bird as she navigates the transition from teenhood to adulthood, as she struggles to live in her generic hometown.

Longing to leave for the bright lights of the East Coast, self-titled Lady Bird gets into a spot of trouble as she navigates the murky waters of familial relationships and battles with her volatile emotions.

'In Ronan's marvellous performance, tough and transparent at the same time, we can see the blurred outlines of the equally assured filmmaker behind her,' reads one review.

Could this be the film that nabs the Carlow native an Oscar?

Saturday Night Live is preparing for an Irish takeover with Saoirse Ronan and U2 both set to appear on the legendary US sketch show.

The programme, which sees a new guest host take over every week, announced last night that the 23-year-old Irish actress would present the December 2 edition, with U2 as her musical guests.

SNL is notorious for its short sketches that offer a comedic look into contemporary culture and America's political landscape.

Its large and varying cast comprises of some of Hollywood's top talents including Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Mike Myers.

The coveted role will come as a welcome break for Saoirse who has been busy promoting her latest film Ladybird.

The comedy-drama has earned huge praise from critics so far, boasting a perfect 100 per cent score on review website Rotten Tomatoes.

And although the film will not hit Irish cinemas until February of the next year, Saoirse's performance has already sparked Oscar buzz ahead of the 2018 award season.

Fingers crossed it's third time lucky to the two-time Academy Award nominee.

It looks like our very Saoirse Ronan may have found her number one fan in the form of Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Gosling.

The 36-year-old has spoken very highly of the Irish actress, declaring her a “master” of her craft and even compared her abilities to those of Meryl Streep.

Speaking to the Irish Sun on Sunday, the Canadian actor said she inspired him to become a better actor after the pair worked together on Ryan's 2014 directorial debut Lost River.

"She’s a genius. She’s a master. She made me a better actor, I think any actor she works with, there’s an elevation in their abilities, upping their game," he said.

"I felt like I was working with a master," he said, "like someone from the Golden Age. Someone superior to my skills as an actor in every way. She’s Meryl reborn."

Ryan confirmed that although he doesn't know when or where, he is looking forward to working with Saoirse in the future, and even hinted that a trip to Ireland may be on the cards.

"So absolutely, certainly, 100 per cent, we are going to work together again, I look forward to it. I don’t know when that will be, that is one busy actor."

"But I know she wants to bring me to Ireland, I’m fully on board."

And it looks like the admiration goes both ways with Saoirse previously calling Ryan “a blonde Canadian Jesus,” after he got people to start pronouncing her name correctly.

The internet was going crazy yesterday after rumours broke that Hozier and Saoirse Ronan have struck up a romantic relationship.

Reports alleged that the pair have been enjoying a 'secret string of dates' around Dublin, but according to a pal of the singer, this simply isn't true.

'Saoirse and Hozier are good friends, but they are definitely not a couple,' a source reportedly told Goss.

'I think people really wanted it to be true, but they aren't dating,'

The pair of Irish talents were seen hanging out together after Saoirse shot scenes for Ed Sheeran's Galway Girl video, but if the source is to be believed, then it was just as friends.

They have previously worked together on Hozier's music video Cherry Wine

Both Saoirse and Hozier are quite private about their romantic lives, with neither the actress nor the Take Me To Church singer confirming or denying the relationship.

Who knew Saoirse Ronan was such a messer?

The Carlow beauty is set to star in Ed Sheeran’s Galway Girl video which was filmed in Galway last week and it looks like the pair had a few laughs on set.

Ed, who is no stranger to body-art, asked Saoirse to write the title of the song on his arm so that he could get it tattooed in her handwriting.

However, our Saoirse saw the opportunity for a bit of mischief and ran with it.

Instead of 'Galway Girl', Saoirse wrote 'Galway Grill', which has now been permanently inked on Ed’s arm.

Speaking to the crowd at his gig in Glasgow on Sunday night, the singer said, "When we were filming it I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying Galway Girl from her point of view.’’

"It actually says Galway Grill.  G-R-I-L-L.  She really took the p*** out of me.  Full on!"

Ed admitted that he was actually quite impressed by Saoirse’s creativity and isn’t holding any grudges.

“I’m actually quite proud of her. It’s the kind of thing I would do.”

G'wan Saoirse!

Actress Saoirse Ronan is no stranger to the red carpet, so it’s little surprise that her look at last night’s Tony Awards ceremony was picture-perfect.

The star – who made her Broadway debut back in March with The Crucible – looked stunning in a floor-length barely blush gown with a subtle torso cut-out and soft fishtail end.

The 22-year-old ensured that nothing distracted from the simplistic elegance of the figure-hugging Stella McCartney dress by accessorising only with a pair of simple drop earrings and a thin gold cuff on her wrist.

She allowed her fair complexion to take centre stage with a barely-there makeup look created by New York-based makeup artist Talia Sparrow.

Speaking about the star's style, Talia told InStyle: "We went for a modern and romantic look with youthful, dewy skin…we wanted to keep the look clean and fresh, while sculpting without contouring."

The Brooklyn actress’s look was completed with a low-key hairstyle which had been loosely pulled back into a low braided bun.

The popular and highly acclaimed actress co-presented an award on the night with Girls actor Andrew Rannells.

The star-studded event was hosted by comedian James Corden, who opened the show with a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting.

If you have ever been lucky enough to be embroiled in a late night pub lock-in in Ireland, then you will know that they are amazing craic and should be regarded as cultural phenomenons.

They are also one of those Irish things that you forget not everyone in the world actually knows what they are.

So when Jimmy Fallon essentially described being involved in a lock-in in Kinsale to Saoirse Ronan, she totally knew what he was on about.

However, when she explained the concept out loud, it did actually sound a bit mad.

"The whole idea of a lock-in was that the guards- our policemen- wouldn't know about it," the 21-year-old very aptly explained.

"But they're usually in the lock-ins as well. They're usually in there with you.

"I've grown up with that really."

Following her marathon press junket for Brooklyn and after slaying the red carpet at every turn this awards season, you would think Saoirse Ronan would be looking to take a little break.

But you would be totally wrong because Saoirse is all set to begin a 20-week run on Broadway proving that she is actually superhuman.

Saoirse is starring in an adaptation of classic play the Crucible and it seems that the show has been deemed a roaring success weeks before its official opening on 31 March.

According to the Irish Independent, the play raked up an impressive €500,000 for it's six preview shows in the last week.

The Crucible is a famous American play about the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692. Saoirse is slated to play Abigail Williams in the adaptaion, a teen who decides to use the town's drama to her own advantage.

Her co-stars include British actor Ben Whishaw and Irish actor Ciaran Hinds.

The play was due to begin on February 21 but the producers pushed back the date so the talented Carlow native could attend the Oscars at which she was up for a gong for her impressive turn in Brooklyn.

So does everything Saorise Ronan touch turn to gold?

Metallics and spring pastel palettes ruled on last night's Oscars red carpet, and while not everyone got it right, there were a few drop-dead gorgeous looks.

One style winner was Saoirse Ronan, who can rest easy knowing that she made it to the top of many a Best Dressed list today, even if she didn't go home with a Best Actress gong.

The 21-year-old looked breathtaking in a custom-made emerald green Calvin Klein gown, which she said was a nod to her "Irish heritage."

Of course, she wasn't the only one turning heads last night – here's a look at the best and worst of the Academy Awards red carpet.

The Hits

Lady Gaga
Gaga's white ensemble looked like a standard gown from the back, but from the front it was a killer jumpsuit. Love.

Jennifer Lawrence
That sheer neckline tho. J-Law worked it in Dior as always:

Mindy Kaling
Mindy went for understated elegance in a black bodycon number with cobalt blue sleeves and a flowing train.

Pharrel and Helen Lasichanh
Couples' style goals right here:

Margot Robbie
Like Saoirse, Margot went for full-on metallics in a shimmering gold number. While she ran the risk of looking like an Oscars statuette, the risk totally paid off.

Andra Day
The soul singer took things back to a simpler era with a touch of Fifties glamour. If only we could look that perfect in pale yellow…

Sophie Turner
Sophie let her bold red locks do the talking last night, keeping her colour palette neutral in a silver-grey dress and shoes, accessorised with a diamond choker.

The Misses

Kate Winslet
We love you Kate, but that shimmering black fabric is doing nothing for you. Very Debs dress circa 2003…

Alicia Vikander
The puff-ball bottom is retro gone wrong, and the sequin detailing adds nothing. A no from us.- but Alicia took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy so it's not all bad.

Heidi Klum
Heidi rocked up in a what is basically a nightdress, and while we love the pale lavender colour, it's just not an Oscars look.

It's four days to go until the Oscars, and buzz is building for our gal Saoirse Ronan.

The Carlow/New York native is up for a Best Actress gong for her role in Brooklyn, but she's been getting just as much camera time outside of the world of film too.

Her instantly-recognisable face appears on the cover of Interview magazine's current issue which launched today, and she looks downright stunning.

The black-and-white cover, photographed by Mikael Jansson, is a more edgy Saoirse than what we're used to seeing on screen and at awards shows. Wearing a skintight Dior dress and with her hair and skin drenched in water, the 21-year-old is positively smouldering, in fact.

As part of Interview's Fashion Issue, which features four covers from four different stars, Saoirse chatted to fellow A-lister Jodie Foster, and the pair did some serious bonding over their similar Hollywood childhoods.

"I'm really close to my mom as well, and she came away with me up until I was 19," said Saoirse of her time away from home on shoots.

"I'm a baby… But she always comes over for the first week to help me settle in. It's really important."

Having moved out of home and set up with her own place in London just two years ago, Saoirse admits the whole thing was a big learning curve.

"It was something that I needed and I wanted to do. I wanted to leave Ireland and have anonymity while I was young so I could be stupid and relaxed, I suppose.

"So I lived on my own and got used to paying bills every month and washing dishes and not leaving them in the sink for five days."

An Oscar-nominated star who washes her own dishes? Saoirse sounds like our kinda lady.

We don't know how Saoirse Ronan does it.

The Irish actress has been out on the most chaotic press tour ever for Brooklyn (seriously she's been everywhere), is nominated for an Oscar and has another two movies coming out in 2016.

And yet, the Carlow native still has time to plot her next film role.

Saoirse has just revealed that she will be starring in another adaptation of an Ian McEwan novel, her first being 2007's uber-successful Atonement.

At just 13, Saoirse was Oscar-nominated for her turn in the film and the project single handedly propelled her career into the stratosphere.

The 21-year-old will star in an adaptation of McEwan's 2007 Booker Prize nominated novella, On Chesil Beach.

The moving story documents the honeymoon of a young couple who struggle to come to terms with their varying backgrounds, fears and issues with intimacy.

"It's an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project," said producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, who worked with the actress on the 2012 Neil Jordan film, Byzantium.

The film is set to be helmed by theatre director Dominic Cooke and to begin filming later this Spring.
