poldark

As the saying goes; all good things must come to an end.

And BBC bosses have signalled that our unhealthy addiction to Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark will come to a close after season five.

The much anticipated fifth season will be the last of the series – and we aren't okay.

Filming has gotten underway this week for the final chapter, and as our tears dry, writer Debbie Horsfield has given us a sneaky insight into what we can expect as the curtain closes on the series.

Debbie Horsfield, who has written every episode of the four series, divulged: “In The Stranger from the Sea Winston Graham made many references to developments that happened in the 'gap' years. Much can also be inferred.

There are, of course, also historical events and people of the time, both in Cornwall and in London. Series five will draw on all of these to follow the lives of the Poldarks, George Warleggan, the Enyses, and the Carnes in this intervening period.”

Poldark saga was created over 12 novels by Winston Graham.

The 'gap' Debbie refers to is the 10 year period, Winston left between his seventh and his eighth novel.

The fourth series was based off the seventh novel, The Angry Tide. And the final series will be inspired by the eighth book, The Stranger from the Sea.

And, of course, a new series means new roles to cast for characters.

These include famous faces such as Lily Dodsworth Evans, Kerri McLean, Sofia Oxenham, and Vincent Regan – to name just a few.

Although, we will have to wait a little longer to find out who will be playing what part.

You can expect the fifth and final series to hit your screens sometime in 2019.

We are going to miss the perfection that is Aiden Turner.

Congrats are in order for Aidan Turner, he has been crowned Best Television Actor at the GQ Men of the Year awards.

Aidan is best known for his role in the BBC series, Poldark (probably because he's hot AF in it) and picked up the coveted gong in London last night.

Fellow Irish actor, James Nesbitt presented the award to the Dubliner.

Meanwhile, Calvin Harris won Man of the Year, and very suspicious pictures went up just as his ex Taylor Swift announced she split from Tom Hiddleston. Hmmm…

There's never a dull moment, huh?

Aidan Turner has leapt into fame since starring in Poldark, but that doesn't mean he can hold his drink.

The producer of the show, Karen Thrussell, revealed to Radio Times that she held a party for the cast and crew to watch the final episode of the first series last year.

And while they watched the show, they decided to play a splendid drinking game.

The rules of the game were very simple. Aidan had to take a drink whenever he was seen riding a horse and any time he shared a saddle, too.

Now, if you're a fan of Poldark, you'll know that he rides a horse A LOT in the last episode – so it's fair to say he got absolutely hammered.

We bet he's hoping for less horse riding next season.

Irish actor Aidan Turner won the Impact/ TV Moment of the Year for his turn as rogue mine owner and farmer in the hit BBC series Poldark.

Even though the show did not pick up a gong for Best New Drama and Aidan lost out to Suranne Jones in Doctor Foster for Best Drama Performance, the actor was chuffed if not 'slightly confused' by the win.

However, we are not confused.

Audiences were certainly impacted by Aidan's brilliant acting, brooding good looks and well… his abs.

"I'm not sure why I'm here, I'm glad to be, and who knows, this might be the only one I get so I'm delighted," said the 32-year-old as he accepted his award.

He did however reference THAT scything scene in which we see a sweaty, topless Poldark working the fields that pretty much sent the internet into a tizzy.

"I guess the scything scenes kind of speak for themselves, there's little to say there, but the rest of the cast, it's such a delight to be in this show, we have such talented people."

The one surprise of the night perhaps is The Big Bang Theory taking home the International Award over hot favourite Game of Thrones

Ant & Dec once again beat out Graham Norton to take home the TV Presenter of the Year award.

Shayne Ward took home best newcomer for his role in Corrie while Gogglebox won best factual entertainment.

The Great British Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing also took home awards.
