Summer is drawing to a close, and with the end of summer comes the beginning of arguably the best fashion season – Autumn/Winter.

Into the back of the wardrobe and bottom drawers go the floaty skirts and bandeau tops, replaced by a soothing, autumnal sartorial swathe of utility checks, enigmatic textures and chic layers.

We've already spotted our first must-have fashion piece for our autumn work wardrobe, and it's a steal at €25.00.

Blazer €25.00

The Prince of Wales check blazer from Penners is the perfect basic but stylish piece to create a plethora of stylish work and play outfits over the next few months.

The lightweight fabric and classic cut allow for serious versatility, allowing you to match it with any of your work top and trouser combinations.

Outside of the office, the blazer would look divine worn slightly oversized, flung over a little black dress and statement accessories.

Earrings €3.00, and Cross-body €4.00, both Penneys

We've picked out these tasseled earrings and colourful cross-body as the ultimate items to add to an LBD-and-blazer-combo.  Throw on flat, black boots for day or minimalist black heeled mules for evening.

The blazer would look equally as cute on top of a slouchy white t-shirt tucked into blue jeans and some colourful loafers or runners.

For a night on the town, we'll be buttoning the blazer up over a lacy crop top and donning it as a dress.

Whichever way we style it, we'll be getting our cost-per-wear down to zilch.

With the Christmas party season in full swing, you probably have a few after-work events lined up for this week! It can be hard to strike the right balance between formal office wear and glamorous evening style, but with the right pieces in your wardrobe it's totally doable.

If you're planning on heading straight from the office to the bar, here are a few versatile items that will see you through from dawn 'til dusk…

1. A tux jacket
Throw this on over a plain white tee or a loose cami for instant elegance. Not only can you get away with wearing a slightly less formal top underneath, but a tux-style blazer is sleek enough for evening wear too. We're loving the leather details on this black jacket:

Figure-Fitting Tux Jacket, €39.99, H&M

2. A skater dress
The fit n' flare style of a skater dress is simple enough for the office, but the figure-flattering cut means you'll feel amazing on the dancefloor, too! This black and cream number would look great with or without tights.

Madam Rage Black Leaf Panel Skater Dress, €39, New Look

3. Heeled ankle boots
Whether you wear them with skinnies, tights or slacks, leather ankle boots are perfect for both day and night. If you're on your feet all day, go for a more comfortable chunky heel, like the ones on these gorgeous black leather boots.

Galilahi Ankle Boots, €150, Aldo

4. Killer heels
If it doesn't feel like a night out unless you're wearing killer heels, then why not opt for a slingback pair that are demure enough for the office, too? This coral nubuck pair would brighten up any work wear look.

Premiere Slingback Dorsay Point Heels, €81, Office

5. Tailored slacks
A well-tailored pair of trousers adds instant elegance. Go for a slightly cropped pair like these ones from Zara for a fun, relaxed look that would be perfect with heels or Oxford brogues.

Rib Trousers, €29.95, Zara

6. Printed cigarette pants
Another versatile piece of clothing that doesn't need much dressing up for the evening. Add some red lipstick and you're good to go!

Black Graphic Print Cigarette Pants, €55, River Island

7. A cross-body clutch
A teeny clutch bag is a bit impractical for the office, so go for a slightly larger cross-body version that will still see you through an evening on the tiles. How gorgeous is this red leather one?

Casey Cross Body Bag, €31, Oasis

8. Statement jewellery
Amp up your look with a bejewelled necklace or pair of earrings and you'll be ready for the dancefloor in no time!

Pieces Mella Multicoloured Necklace, €35.72, ASOS

After months of trawling job sites and meeting with recruiters – you’ve done it. You’ve gotten an interview for your dream job. You might be 100% prepared for any question they’ll throw at you, but have you considered what to wear?

First impressions are hugely important when it comes to job interviews. While you might have an “interview uniform” like a trouser or skirt suit in your wardrobe, that’s not always going to be appropriate.

Here’s our top tips for choosing a killer interview outfit…

1. Neaten up!
A scuffed shoe or battered handbag might seem like a small detail but you never know what will be noticed when you walk into the room. Try to look as look and put-together as possible to avoid falling at the first hurdle.

2. Be comfortable!
If your trusty interview skirt or jacket has gotten a touch too tight, it might be wise to consider another option rather than sitting squirming in your seat. Don’t forget to take into account factors like weather and location too. If it’s really hot, avoid heavier fabrics – a red sweaty face is not the most professional look. If the interview location requires a bit of a walk, make sure your heels aren’t deathly uncomfortable – or at least plan to wear flats and change when you get near.

3. Do your research!
Have a look online or ask around to find out a bit more about the company and its dress code. Check on social media for any pictures of staff at events and use those as a base for your interview outfit. Know what works. For example, if you’re applying to a small internet startup where employees happily wear jeans and t-shirts, a trouser suit is going to look painfully awkward.

While it’s important to always remain slightly formal, for companies with more casual dress codes, you can inject some edge and creativity into your outfit.

Check out our guide to the three main dress code types and how to work with them:

Casual/Creative
Think startups, anything in the creative field, or more relaxed grassroots companies. Bright colours, fun prints and cool accessories mean you’ll look the part but stand out from other applicants:

Business Casual
This is the weird middle ground that’s not quite casual, not quite full-on office wear. If you’re wearing a trouser or skirt suit, you could wear a simple shirt or tank on top. A jacket can be optional too, but a cool blazer adds a fun touch:

Business professional
Charcoal greys and blacks are good colour palettes – for lighter colours stick to neutrals like cream, white and beige. A jacket, skirt/trousers and heels are all essentials. If your hair is long or full of flyaways, a bun or sleek pony is a good option.

Best of luck!

Not every workplace has a Casual Friday policy – and of course, not every workplace requires you to dress up in the first place. If you're working in an office environment though, you may notice that things are a little more relaxed on the last day of the week, as everyone gets into weekend mode. While it's never really going to be acceptable to show up in yoga pants and a hoody (boo!) you can usually take things down a notch when it comes to planning your Friday outfit.

It can be difficult to work out just how low-key to go – and you definitely don't want to make the mistake of going too casual. Here are a few tips to help you strike the balance between professional and fun…

1. To denim or not to denim?
If you're dying to get your jeans on by the end of the week, it can be possible to work them into your office outfit – but be careful. Rips, bleached denim and low-risers should all be avoided. If it's something you can't imagine your boss wearing, you shouldn't consider it either. Go for a muted colour, like Lauren Conrad's forest green pair – perfect for easing into the weekend! Darker denim washes are also a good choice, or try a relaxed chino like Amanda Seyfried:

2. Blaze a trail
If you're wearing jeans, a blazer is a great wear to still look relatively professional. Avoid anything too cropped or tight – a longer blazer looks far more put-together. Victoria Beckham's relaxed black one gives a touch of luxury to her outfit, while Emma Watson's cobalt blue blazer is a great option for any day of the week:

3. On the button
A loose blouse or shirt is a great way to bring some summer fun to your outfit. Avoid sheer fabrics at all costs – they're just too risky for the office – but cottons and silks are great alternatives. Cameron Diaz looks just the right side of sexy in this white button-down. If you find a shirt too stuffy for Fridays, take a leaf out of Jessica Alba's book and throw a sleek silk kimono over a white vest or tee.

4. Get to the point
If standard footwear in your office is stilettos, you'll be glad of a break come Friday. A pointed-toe flat is a more professional option than round-toe ballet flats – Miranda Kerr looks totally classy in hers. If you need that extra inch or two, try a heeled ankle boot like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – great with jeans or tights.
