Holly Carpenter

Poor Holly Carpenter became the subject of some negativity last week, and now she's hitting back.

An article published in the Irish Independent on New Year's Day as part of Holly's regular column with the paper soon attracted attention online for all the wrong reasons:

Holly's line about tapas being great for "a bit of a crowd" was definitely the one line that stuck out for many:

Now though, the model has spoken out about the backlash, and says she knows the column wasn't up to her usual standard – but still feels the criticism was wholly unjustified.

"[L]ast week I wasn’t quite as organised as usual – it was New Year’s Eve after all – and I had to do a quick interview over the phone before it went to print, just to add some details," she wrote in a response published by the Independent today.

"In the end I understand why people might have felt that parts of my column just didn’t sound like me.

"However, I found it extremely frustrating and embarrassing getting so much hate over a few words in the social part of my column.

"I think people over-reacted and I can’t understand or relate to anyone who gets a thrill out of typing nasty words about someone else with the aim of upsetting them."

The 24-year-old also explained why she had refused to speak about the issue in the media or online over the last seven days.

"Part of the reason I didn’t partake in any interviews or reply to any mean tweets about this is because I fully understand that you have to take the good with the bad in this industry and I tried my best to just take it on the chin, learn from it and move on.

"A very big ‘thank you’ to everyone who tweeted me. I even made it on to some of my favourite satirical sites which featured what happened and gave me a laugh."

And in case you were wondering, Holly still maintains that tapas ARE "great for a crowd."

The new series of Celebrity Big Brother kicks off early next week, and the latest confirmed contestant hails from Irish shores.

Former Bohs and Shelbourne player and self-confessed ladies' man Jeremy McConnell will join this year's lot of housemates, it was revealed this evening.

Dubliner Jeremy, who dated Holly Carpenter for over a year in his teens, once claimed to have slept with "all the models in Ireland," so he'll no doubt have a lot to say on that subject on the show.

Jeremy will join Gemma Collins, Spencer Matthews, David Gest, and Kim Kardashian's bestie Jonathan Cheban for the new series of CBB, which kicks off next Tuesday December 5.

He'll be the first Irish contestant to take part since B*Witched's Edele Lynch in August 2014.

As well as his modelling work, the tattooed Irishman also starred in the 2013 MTV reality show Beauty School Cop Outs.

He describes himself as a "flirt and a charmer" and according to his Beauty School Cop Outs bio he hates "judgmental, stuck up, power crazy people and… bitchiness."

Sounds like he'll have a tough time in the CBB house, so…

Danny O'Reilly has been on and off with TV presenter Laura Whitmore for years now, but it seems he officially has a new woman in his life.

According to the Irish Herald, the Irish heartthrob is rumoured to be seeing former Miss Ireland, Holly Carpenter.

What a handsome couple!

Danny, 29,  rose to success with his distinctive voice and catchy songs as part of his band the Coronas and is the son of well know Irish singer Mary Black.

According to a source close to the pair, Danny and the 24-year-old stunner have been getting pretty cosy over the last few weeks.

"It's been going on for a few weeks now and things have been going well. He's really busy with the band. They're in Australia at the moment touring and she's flying it with her modelling career, so it's still early days.

"But they've lots in common and are just taking it as it comes."

This is the first reported romantic link for Irish model since she broke it off with Cian in July of last year.

Danny has been on and off with his ex Laura since 2012 but despite being snapped getting cosy only back in May of this year, it would seem their tumultuous relationship is over for good.

So move over Bressie and Roz! There is definitely a new Irish IT couple in town.

We’ve actually just about given up on our teenage dreams of looking like a real celebrity.

Sure we do a mean liquid-liner-strong-brow combo and yup,we’ve been known to rock some pretty on fleek, red carpet worthy looks.

But we’ve now old and wise enough to come to the conclusion that constantly sporting SnapChat-ready hair, make-up and accessories (we salute you, famous folk) is just too overwhelming for normal beings.

Still, we’re not ones to pass on the opportunity to occasionally go serious Kardashian-Jenner glam for a really special event – and that’s where Starla dresses comes in.

Rosanna Davidson

Located on Dublin’s South William Street, but with a great website for anyone based outside the capital, the outlet is basically the go-to place for the likes of Rosanna Davison, Holly Carpenter, Suzanne Jackson, Nicola Hughes, Hazel O’Sullivan, Vogue Williams and Lynn Kelly.

And let’s face it: those lovely ladies go to A LOT of fancy-pants social events.

Starla hires out designer dresses from just €80 – think the head-turning Sierra dress, or the sexy All Saints gold eagle number, the latter of which has been seen on Rosanna. Or alternatively, borrow a serious statement number from Alex Perry for €200 or less – he’s the Aussie designer that’s hugely popular with the likes of Sandra Bullock, Giuliana Rancic, and Ariel Winter.      We furthermore got more than a little excited when we spotted fabulouso frocks to purchase from just €65. And *whisper it* Starla on occasion sells off former rental stock (which is always in perfect condition) for a fraction of the original price: at the moment we have one very keen eye on this stunning hand-painted Holt Miami dress. Kim Kardashian loves the label, and while it would have been (gulp) more than €1,000 to buy, it is now on sale for just €180… #swoon.   For those that don’t do dresses – the store and website both have a brilliant selection of accessories and fur for sale: think bags, bangles and rings, not to mention [pictured above] amazing €30 bobble hats that have just arrived in for winter.  Here, with a debs/wedding/ball/graduation spring in our step, SHEmazing! has rounded up the very best that Starla currently has to offer…

If you use it right, Snapchat can be the ultimate flirting tool, and Irish model Holly Carpenter knows all the tricks.

The brunette beauty, based in Dublin, put together a little Snapchat translation lesson for any men out there who might be fooled into thinking you're only "casually" sending him that picture of yourself looking absolutely stunning on a "single girls' night out."

Holly's blog post was first written back in April but over the last 24 hours it has gone viral worldwide, being shared everywhere from the US to New Zealand and beyond. And with good reason too, as some of her lessons are pretty damn hilarious.

There's the "aren't I just adorable?" puppy picture:

The cheeky bathtub shot:

The "oh, were my boobs on show?" selfie:

And, of course, the drunken Snapchat you NEVER intended to send:

We reckon Holly should look at a career change – this lady needs her own stand-up show!

Cian Healy and Holly Carpenter only broke up last month, but the Rugby star has replaced her already – with a puppy!

He shared a photo of the German Shepherd puppy on Instagram, and he is VERY cute (we mean the puppy! Although…)!

He hasn’t picked a name for the pooch yet, but says it will either be Hank or Tank, and he says “He’s a little beaut!”.

Awh – we love a man who loves dogs!

It seems that nobody is immune to break-up woes – even models and rugby stars.

Dublin model Holly Carpenter and Irish rugby ace Cian Healy have apparently called time on their relationship.

The couple had been dating for over two years after meeting at a community demonstration in Dublin in November 2011.

The split is said to have come as a big surprise to friends as the couple have an adopted dog together – a little pug called Teddy.

So sad!

Holly is said to have already booked a holiday to Spain with a model pal Jayne Higgins, who took part in the Miss Ireland finals last weekend. Holly won the title in 2011.

Well, let’s hope a girlie holiday will take her mind off the split!
