coffee

We're told that coffee is for day-time and wine is for night-time.

And we really can't get those two confused.

Most days, we wish night-time would come sooner so we could launch into that glass of vino after a hellish day.

So, when we heard about wine-infused coffee, our heads totally melted.

They're not meant to be for the same time of day, right?!

But, looking more into this beautiful beverage, it seems pretty fecking great.

The coffee is infused with some of the best wine in the world, coming from Napa Valley, and the coffee is "rich" and "full-bodied."

MPR-regular

Monlinari Private Reserve looks dreamy and we've decided we're going to drink it in the evening-time. A perfect in-the-middle spot.

The drink has become so popular that it's currently sold out, but keep a look out on this website for when it comes back in stock.

We love wine, and we love coffee, so when we heard that there was a new product on the market that incorporates the two, we got more than a bit excited.

Wine-infused coffee is officially a thing, but before you lose the run of yourself entirely, we have a bit of bad news.

The wine/coffee hybrid doesn't actually get you drunk, but instead infuses the two rich flavours for an experience for the taste buds, rather than the liver.

The coffee beans, made by Molinari Private Reserve, are drenched in wine before being dried and bagged to create the distinct flavour.

"This full-bodied coffee relaxes in a beautiful wine, absorbing the wine’s nose and history, then the coffee is carefully dried and hand-roasted in small batches," reads the website.

The coffee is currently only available online, for a pretty reasonable €20.00, so we may have to pick up a bag (or three).

Our inner coffee snob is drooling.

We recently learned that in Thailand, there is a herd of 20 elephants creating the world's most expensive coffee, with their poo…

This exotic new brew is made from coffee beans eaten by the elephants, and plucked a day later from their excrement (pretty!).

According to Blake Dinkin, who has spent over £200,000 developing the coffee, "when an elephant eats coffee, its stomach acid breaks down the protein found in coffee, which is a key factor in bitterness".

"You end up with a cup that's very smooth without the bitterness of regular coffee" he says.

Called Black Ivory Coffee, this special bew has been dubbed the most expensive coffee in the world, at a whopping ‎€50 per cup.

It may have been lurking on YouTube for the best part of a decade, but we have Giuliana Rancic to thank for bringing this cracker of a Bryan Cranston commercial to the attention of the wider world last night.

While shooting the breeze with Screen Actor's Guild Award attendees, the E! host spotted the Breaking Bad star, and decided to use the opportunity to remind the actor that no matter how far you come in the industry, you're only one YouTube upload away from total mortification.

After being reminded that he starred in a particularly cheesy ad for Carnation Coffee Mate back in 1988, Bryan assured Giuliana that his appearance quickly became part of family folklore.

"My mother could never remember if it was Coffee-mate or Cremora," he said. "And she would say, ‘I love that Cream-mate creamer! I use that in my coffee all the time.’"

Unsurprisingly, members of the public, who happened upon the ad before Giuliana's big reveal last night, wasted no time referencing the star's biggest work as Walter White in Breaking Bad.

"I am the one who brews!" wrote one while another added: "I don't make the coffee. I AM THE COFFEE!"

We'll let Bryan take it from here…

We love any kind of unicorn confectionery, from unicorn cakepops to unicorn doughnuts, but combining coffee and the mythical creature just never seemed feasible.

But much to our delight, unicorn coffee is now a thing, and the colourful, star-sprikled hot beverages are definitely too pretty to drink.

As well as being prettier than we'll ever be, the unicorn lattes are also super healthy, and give the drinker an infusion of vitamins and minerals.

So pretty much like drinking unicorn blood in Harry Potter then? Except with out all the "cursed life" fine print.

The drinks healthy credentials come from the fact that it is made with ginger, honey, coconut milk and lemon.

The dreamy blue hue comes from a smattering of live algae, a source of protein, iron and B vitamins.

Until then we'll be scrolling through Instagram, wishing our morning coffee was as damn cute as a unicorn latte.

Maybe we'll have to get some star sprinkles to jazz up our instant coffee.

Tiredness: the problem that we ALL battle all too regularly.

Whether brought on by the likes of cramming for exams, partying, work, or Netflix binges – folk these days are constantly exhausted.

But beyond the basics of coffee (and LOTS of it) there are various tips and tricks that will help you power on through.

1. Stay hydrated:

Especially if you're downing cups of caffeine, you need to make sure that you're hydrated too – so ensure you're having plenty of water to aid better focus and concentration.

2. Get active:

Getting your heart pumping: a brisk walk, a dance around the sitting room to your favourite tunes, or skipping in the garden – working up a sweat will do wonders to keep you awake.

3. Don't overheat:

Keep the central heating on low (or better still, turn it off altogether) – being too warm will only make you more sleepy.

4. Stay away from sugar:

It's tempting to hit a chocolate vending machine if you're working shifts or travelling early/late. But while sugar might give you a temporary hit, studies show it will only make matters worse longer-term. So choose your snacks wisely, opting for slow-burning carbs or protein-fuelled nibbles to keep you going.

5. Chew gem:

Bizarre – but apparently true: a study published in Nutritional Neuroscience shows that chewing gum can increase alertness.

6. Sing a song:

The Journal Of Music Therapy says that singing a song will help perk you up – so pop on your earphones and blast out a tune!

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life has taken over the lives of Netflix lovers across the globe.

The revival of the noughties TV show has been a smash success, with the show reaching old and new fans alike.

As with all good drama series, there have been a few controversies along the way from those last four words to the coffee cup controversy sweeping social media.

If you've ever watched the show, you'll know that the girls love to drink their coffee in a slightly unusual manner, clutching the bottom of the cup with their palms flat.

Online outcry over the unusual method has taken over Twitter, with fans speculating that there is, in fact, no coffee in the cups whatsoever.

Sitting down with Stephen Colbert on the Late Late Show, GG veteran Lauren Graham effortlessly demonstrated how the method worked, proving that you can indeed drink coffee in this fashion.

“There is always coffee in my cup. Always. That is a pet peeve of mine. I’m holding it. I’m holding it like this. I’m looking at snow, I’m holding the cup. I’m drinking," she said.

"I love the controversies that are cropping up!”

The star also spoke about her love for her classic character and the show.

"The fact that it was sort of the people who brought us back and we got to finish a story that we hadn’t gotten to finish and this character I love so much. I was just a freak, and I had so much appreciation."

"It was actually very overwhelming. I’m not a person who cries very easily, but I cried almost every day.”

With Christmas FM back on the radio and the Coca-Cola ad returned to TV, the festive season is officially under way.

But while many dread this time of year for the effects it can have on one’s waistline, an abundance of chocolate, pudding and wine may well be the least of our worries.

As part of a growing annual tradition, major coffee chains like Starbucks, Costa Coffee and Caffè Nero have updated their menus to include a range of delicious but sugar laden holiday beverages.

In nutritional terms, the most offensive of these drinks contains almost 300 calories and over 50g of sugar – that’s 15 percent of the average woman’s daily calorie allowance and twice her recommended intake of the sweet stuff.

Here’s what to look out for in Starbucks, Costa and Caffè Nero this Christmas:

Well, when we first saw this, we thought we all died and went to fast food heaven.

Everyone knows the deal with airplane food; it's generally… horrible. So, when we saw that a Canadian airline, WestJet, was serving McDonald's on its flights, we jumped for absolute joy.

But as it turns out, the airline is only serving Maccy D's coffee. Just a measly cup of coffee. No Big Macs or chicken nuggets or McFlurries in sight.

It is said to be a 'special' coffee, to counteract with the altitude of the plane, and will be brewed with "slightly hotter water."

Well, that was a big let down.

OK, so at this stage we're all kinda used to the Internet telling us that we've been doing basic tasks wrong our whole lives.

We think it's a matter of personality; everybody handles things in different ways. Yet, another expert has come forward to tell the world that we've all been holding cups wrong since we were babies.

Apparently, there's two separate ways to hold a cup of tea, and a cup of coffee.

"For tea, you never loop your index finger into the handle. Instead, your index finger should meet your thumb through the handle as if you were pinching, and your middle finger should support by being placed under the handle. Think ‘pinch and support!’”says Myka Meier, founder of Beaumont Etiquette.

And for coffee; “loop your index finger into the handle and keep your thumb on top of the handle. Your remaining three fingers — middle, index and pinkie — are tucked into the palm of your hand.”

Myka also notes that for both coffee and tea, the handle of your mug or cup must always remain at 3 o’clock. That way, if you have lipstick on, it will leave just one mark on your cup.

And if you think you're being posh by holding out your pinkie finger, Myka says that is a definite no-no.

“Never pinkie up! Ever!”
