That’s right, yet another reboot. This time the focus is on the Cartoon Network classic, The Powerpuff Girls.

It has been confirmed that a live-action reboot is in the works at the CW, featuring America’s trio of pint-sized superheroes; Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles. Now though, they’re disillusioned twenty-somethings, who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

While a live-action reboot sounds a bit dubious, the names attached to the project so far are quite impressive, putting our minds slightly at ease. The show will be written by Heather Regnier of Veronica Mars and Diablo Cody of Juno and Jennifer's Body. Also on board is Executive producer, Greg Berlanti, who is known for his work on Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

In the original cartoon, these bad-ass kid superheroes were created by their father and scientist, Professor Utonium, after he combines the three ingredients required to make the ‘perfect girl’, sugar, spice and everything nice. That is until he accidentally knocks in an extra ingredient, Chemical X — turning them into the perfect little superheroes needed to protect the good people of Townsville.

The original series aired in 1998 until 2005, and produced a total of six seasons with The Powerpuff Girls Movie, coming out in 2002. The animated show was initially rebooted for Cartoon Network  in 2016, and has produced three seasons so far, the latest wrapped in June 2019.

Most of us can cast our minds back to the innocence of childhood. Even more of us can probably remember when that innocence was shattered, when we fell hopelessly in love/lust with a cartoon character.

From obvious choices like General Li Shang, Prince Eric and Danny Phantom to more obscure preferences (*cough* Shrek *cough*)…this list will give you a good laugh, if nothing else. Try to keep your heartrate steady.

Over the past 24 hours, a particular cartoon depiction of Serena Williams has been causing outrage online.

The cartoon, by The Herald Sun artist Mark Knight, shows the tennis legend smashing her racket in a rage.

The cartoon has been widely criticised as being sexist and accused of using racist stereotypes.

The newspaper's editor, Damon Johnston has defended the cartoon, writing on Twitter that it 'is not racist or sexist …. it rightly mocks poor behaviour by a tennis legend … Mark has the full support of everyone.'

High profile figures have criticised the cartoon, including author JK Rowling.

'Well done on reducing one of the greatest sportswomen alive to racist and sexist tropes and turning a second great sportswoman into a faceless prop,' she tweeted.

Knight denied that the cartoon was racist, telling 3AW radio's Neil Mitchell:

'It's a cartoon about poor behaviour … People said I’m racist because I drew Serena as an African-American woman.'

'I drew her as a powerful figure, which is what she is. She's strongly built.'

Serena Williams has since been fined $17,000 for her outburst at the US Open Final.

Would you watch KUWTK if it was in a cartoon (or kartoon?) version?

Apparently, Kris Jenner is pitching just that.

The matriarch of reality TV is plugging an animated television series featuring a cartoon version of the famous clan.

TMZ have revealed that Kris has had a meeting with Harvey Weinstein's company in L.A. earlier this month to pitch the show.

"The entire family" will be featured with the exception of Caitlyn, according to the gossip site.

The cartoon is said to be aimed towards a prime time audience, and is not for kids.

Kim and co. have already been immortalised in animation in her popular app game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.

We're not sure how a cartoon version would be different to KUWTK except for it being animated, but we're sure Kris has a genius idea or two up her Balmain suit sleeve.

Oh, and while we have you; don't forget to have your say in the inaugural SHEmazing Awards this May! It's time to vote, and you can do it right here!
