A 23-year old man has died at the Dublin half-marathon

The SSE Airtricty Dublin Marathon took place this afternon in Phoenix Park. 

Event organisers have announced that sadly a 23-year old man competing in the race passed away at the event. They took to twitter to inform the public of the man's tragic death.

They have also asked for members of the public to respect the privacy of the man's family at this time:

 

RTÉ reports that he was taken by ambulance to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was later pronounced dead. 

It is believed he suffered a "cardiac event" at the end of the race. 

He was assisted by several participants who happened to be trained paramedics, before being treated by members of the St John's Ambulance medical team.
