The world of music was shaken up yesterday when it emerged that Blink-182 singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge had quit the group to focus on other projects.

His fellow members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker announced that Tom "didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavours."

The band then revealed that Matt Skiba of punk-rock band Alkaline Trio would be replacing Tom for upcoming gigs including a headline concert at this year's Musink festival in California.

However Tom strongly denies ever saying he had quit Blink-182, making a statement through his rep which said, "The ONLY truth here is that I have commitments that limit my availability this year. I love Blink-182 and I'm not leaving."

He also took to Instagram to clear up any confusion, adding that he had been working on Blink-182 projects when he heard about his supposed departure from the group.

"To all the fans, I never quit the band. I actually was on a phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases started coming in… Apparently those releases were 'sanctioned' from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes. But, Christ…..#Awkward #BabyBackRibs," wrote the star.

Hmmm… we wonder if he'll stay true to his word and re-join the band later this year?

Fans of Blink 182 are set to be very disappointed as it has been revealed that Tom DeLonge has officially quit.

In a statement released this morning, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker announced that Tom, who has been with Blink 182 for 23 years now, has decided to concentrate “on his other non-musical endeavours.”

It seems as if things are far from okay with the trio, with Mark and Travis stating: "We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason. A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors. No hard feelings, but the show must go on for our fans."

Ouch!

However, there may be some good news in here somewhere for punk rock fans as it has also been revealed that Tom will be replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba for March’s Musink festival.

It’s definitely the end of an era!
