It's still one of our favourite TV moments of all time – Oprah's 2004 surprise car giveaway, which saw every member of her audience win a €26,000 Pontiac G6.

If you don't remember it, you've most likely seen the GIF, which has to be one of the MOST parodied five seconds of all time.

All together now: "You get a car… you get a car… everybody gets a car!"

But in a new interview for her TV network OWN, Oprah reveals that the hilarious TV moment almost didn't happen – it was completely unscripted.

At the start of the show, Oprah announced that one person in the audience would be winning a car. They were each handed a box, and told that if there was a key inside, they were the proud owner of a Pontiac G6.

When everyone opened their boxes to find a key, Oprah feared they'd think it was a joke, hence the "You get a car, and you get a car" lines.

"I was saying that because people were screaming so loudly they didn’t know what was going on," she explained.

"When I looked at the faces of the audience, they go, ‘But I have a key . . . but she has a key,’ so that’s why I said, ‘You get a car! You get a car!,’ to try to clarify, because they all looked so confused. Everybody gets a car!'"

Whatever the reason behind the lines, they've brought us immense joy over the years.

From tacos…
