downton abbey

The series may be well and truly over, but for these two Downton Abbey stars the romance continues.

Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, has reportedly found love with co-star Michael Fox who plays an illiterate footman named Andrew Parker in the popular ITV drama.

It's a romance that would have caused endless controversy in the fictional universe of Downtown Abbey (a Lady and a footman?!), but in real life, it may just be a perfect match.

"Laura and Michael struck up a great friendship during filming last year," a source has told the Sun.

"They started off as mates but quickly realised there was chemistry there and decided to start dating.

"It's very early days still but they are really enjoying each other's company.

"The best part is that since the show ended they have had a lot more time to spend with each other."

Well at least something good has come out of the end of the series because most of us are still blubbering into our hankies.

Laura has been a veteran of the show, having been involved with the production since the very first series. Meanwhile Michael joined the cast as the footman in the penultimate series.

Well grab your finest coat Andrew Parker because you've pulled.

Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery been left reeling after a devastating loss this week.

Her fiancé, Cork man John Dineen, is understood to have died in the county's Marymount Hospice on Sunday December 13 following an illness.

His funeral will take place in Cork tomorrow.

Michelle and John began dating in September 2013 after being introduced by their mutual friend, Michelle's Downton co-star Allen Leech.

The pair reportedly got engaged earlier this year, with Michelle's colleagues saying the actress had been excited to show off her ring during filming of the drama's final series.

Both Michelle and John were reluctant to comment on their relationship in the press, though the English star did open up somewhat about her romance last year.

"I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know," she said in September 2014.

John is a native of Waterfall, Co. Cork and studied at UCC before completing a Masters in UCD in 2005.

Our thoughts are with Michelle and the Dineen family at this time.

She's the gorgeous 29-year-old actress who earlier this year caught the eye of none-other than Prince Harry.

And while fans had hoped that Jenna Coleman would be playing Doctor Who's Clara Oswald for some time to come, she sensationally announced this morning that she's quit the gig.

Up next? The role of none-other than… Queen Victoria, a formidable historical character better known for her aloof nature, permanent state of mourning, and – it has to be said – her rather large waistline.

But petite Ms Coleman evidently couldn't be happier.

She told BBC One's breakfast show that she now has "four weeks to become the Queen".

She added: "I need to learn to ride a horse, to waltz, play Beethoven."

The forthcoming eight-part period drama follows the early life of Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Price Albert. It is costing ITV some €13.5m to put together.

Jenna has been an on-screen companion to both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi in her three years with the Doctor – the longest-serving assistant since the series was rebooted in 2005.

A source told The Mirror today: "Jenna clinched the role of Victoria a while ago but it’s been a very closely guarded secret.

"There is a lot of excitement about this series, which has Sunday night written all over it.

"ITV hope the eight-part epic will give them a ratings hit like Downton Abbey."

Apparently the royal family are just like the rest of us! They love watching TV too, we knew it couldn’t be all grand tea parties and walks with the corgis.

Queen Elizabeth is a massive Downton Abbey fan, obviously.

According to the Telegraph the Queen “loves Downton Abbey”. However, she also “likes to spot historical mistakes” in the series.

Brian Hoey, the author of At Home with the Queen revealed that the series came up in conversation with a worker at Buckingham Palace.

“We were talking about Trooping the Colour and how the Queen always notices if anything is not quite right, such as one young officer she spotted wearing his medals in the wrong order not long ago.”

The eagle-eyed royal also takes this attention to detail to her favourite television shows too:

“She loves watching Downton Abbey and pointing out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed. She used to stay there as a guest of the Carnarvon family.”

Amongst the royal family the Queen is not the only Downton fangirl. Kate Middleton is apparently also a “huge” fan and makes William watch it with her.

While Prince Charles is apparently said to not be as keen on Downton the Queen also has some other favourites to choose from.

In 2011 she was reported to have told Mary Byrne, a former X Factor contestant, that she has her staff record every episode.

It was hard for us all to hear that this season of Downton Abbey would be the last.

However, it isn't the style, the storylines or even the hot guys we'll miss most. It's Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham who has kept us highly amused since 2010.

Here are 10 of the Dowager's best one-liners that prove she gives the best and only life advice we could ever need:

1. “I don’t dislike him, I just don’t like him. Which is quite different.”

2. “I wonder your halo doesn’t grow heavy. It must be like wearing a tiara around the clock.”

3. "What is a weekend?"

4. "Why does every day involve a fight with an American?"

5. "No one wants to kiss a girl in black"

5. "At my age, one must ration one's excitement"

6. "Don't be defeatist, it's so middle-class"

7.  "Principles are like prayers. Noble, of course, but awkward at a party"

8. "Just because you're an old widow, I see no necessity to eat off a tray."

9. "No guest should be admitted without the date of their departure being known."

10. "Vulgarity is no substitute for wit."

ITV have ruined all of our days after they announced that the next season of Downton Abbey will officially be the last.

The news was made via the network’s Twitter page where they wrote: “After an amazing 5 years, the next series of #DowntonAbbey will be the last. We can’t wait to see what happens!”

Though speculation about the future of the popular show had been plunged into the unknown, nothing had been confirmed until today.

Writer and creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes wrote a statement that appeared on the ITV website reading:

"The Downton journey has been amazing for everyone aboard.  People ask if we knew what was going to happen when we started to make the first series and the answer is that, of course we had no idea.  Exactly why the series had such an impact and reached so many people around the world, all nationalities, all ages, all types, I cannot begin to explain.  But I do know how grateful we are to have been allowed this unique experience. I suspect the show will always be a principal marker in most of our careers as we set out from here, and if so, I consider that a blessing and a compliment."

So, that’s it for some of our favourite characters; especially the Dowager!

Fans of ITV's period drama Downton Abbey will be gutted to hear that the show is reportedly set to end this year.

The show's main writer, Julian Fellowes, is apparently going to leave the UK to work on a new project based in 19th century New York. While nothing has been confirmed yet, one source said that it's an "open secret" this this will be Downton's last year.

Cast members have already begun looking for work elsewhere, with many of their agents hitting the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA last Sunday to scout for new opportunities for them.

"Some of the actors are keen to let it be known they will be available for work after the summer," said the source. “Joanne Froggatt, Edith Carmichael and Allen Leech were in Los Angeles for the awards last week and there were several meetings about both TV and film roles."

Joanne in particular should have no trouble finding work in the US, having just won a Golden Globe for her role as Anna on the show.

The sixth – and possibly final – series will begin filming soon and will air on ITV this September.

Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith in Downton Abbey, has opened up about the celebrity nude pictures scandal.

Two weeks ago, hackers circulated nude images of her co-star Jessica Brown Findlay, and Jennifer Lawrence, on the internet, which Laura describes as “awful”.

Talking about it to Event Magazine, the Downton Abbey star said: "It’s just awful. It’s a crime. It makes me really sad that this is the world in which we live."

“Terrifying and upsetting. What’s happened to my mate is horrendous. I don’t understand why it is anything other than criminality and exploitation.”

She added: "It is just plain stealing. I don’t think there is any other way of looking at it."

Laura, who is very private and has managed to keep herself out of the limelight even though she has been on the hit series for the past four years, went on to add: "The fact people are interested is just sad. I don’t know why it’s anyone else’s business."

Well said, Laura, well said!

Downton Abbey will be back on our screens on the 21st September and we, for one, cannot wait!

We may still be reeling from Sybil’s death back in season 3, but Downton Abbey aren’t giving us a break just yet!

It has been reported that Lily James, who plays Lady Rose, is set to leave the ITV show.

The news will come as a big disappointment to fans of the playful Lady Rose, who loved to cause innocent trouble during her days at the Abbey.

Lily is reportedly making the big move to Hollywood following her major role as Disney’s Cinderella in the upcoming motion picture.

Cinderella will also star Game of Thrones‘, Richard Madden as well as Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett.

According to reports, the promotional schedule for Cinderella will clash will the filming of Downton Abbey‘s sixth season.

We wonder how they will write her out of the script.

It certainly won’t be the last we see of Lily James, that’s for sure!
