All Saints

Now that 90s girlband, All Saints, have announced their highly-anticipated reunion and new album, it looks like the foursome are more than happy to share some behind-the-scenes secrets about their rise to the top of the charts.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Nic, Nat, Shaz and Mel revealed that they were told they'd have to ditch their tops if they wanted to perform on long-running music show, Top of the Pops.

According to the girls, the producers wanted to give the impression the band were performing naked, so requested that they go topless in order to meet the exec's visions.

"The girl that worked with us was in tears because she was trying to fight our corner. We ended up having to compromise with the producers," Nat explained. "We dropped our tops to here [armpits] so it would look like we were topless.”

The girls admitted that the show's reputation meant it was difficult to argue their case, saying: “Because it was such a huge show, we were told ‘if you don’t do it, you don’t get to go on the show’.”

"We did it,but we were stroppy about it," Nicole admitted. "Again, we got labelled as being difficult."

Sheesh, we can't see the same being asked of Oasis.

All Saints may have brought us some classic pop tunes in their heyday but we are seriously impressed by their latest offering.

The recently reformed foursome have just released the music video for their first single from their upcoming album, One Flag, and not only do they look amazing, but they sound it too.

The song, named One Strike, is a personal one for the group as it is about the marriage split of Liam Gallagher from Nicole Appleton.

"It's not about the divorce. It's about the moment I found out what he did to me. When you hear the lyrics it all makes sense," said the 41-year-old.

It was revealed in 2013 that the Oasis singer had fathered a child with a US journalist while he was married to Nicole.

The video even ends with Nicole shedding one of Liam's trademark trench-coats and it's all kinds of brilliant.

It's safe to say over nineteen years since the girls got together, they definitely still got it.

It's been almost two decades since All Saints released their first album and promptly scored a global number one with Never Ever.

Now the foursome are back, and if we're being honest they look exactly the same as they did in 1997, although they've lost the crop tops and combat pants.

Apparently we can expect a new album as early as April, with a first single, One Strike, out before then.

Shaznay Lewis has opened up about the writing process for the new song, and she admits it's a bit of a dig at Nicole Appleton's famous ex-husband Liam Gallagher.

"The lyrics came from somewhere very real. Nic was going through a lot of things at that time," she says.

"That was at the forefront of my mind because it was the heaviest thing going on. We spoke for hours and hours on the phone."

After a few years of success and two albums, All Saints came to a rocky end after an argument over a combat jacket at a photoshoot.

"'I would never in a million years have put money on the group ending over a jacket incident," Shaznay said in an interview with The Guardian in 2004.

"But when that incident happened, it fired up so strong, it had to be over."

The girls reunited back in 2006 for a much-hyped third album, but were dropped by their record label shortly after its release.

"I don't think it was done for the right reasons… I know that I did it for the money," Mel Blatt said of the original failed reunion.

"We got signed before we had even made music again, it wasn't like we felt we had something to give back to the world… we were given an opportunity and took it, without really thinking about it too hard."

Hopefully, ten years on, things go a little better for the famous foursome.

Calling any All Saints fans! The talented songwriter behind the band's hit song Black Coffee is back with her own new album, Indigo Shores.

Kirsty Bertarelli, 43, had put her music career on hold in order to devote more time to her three children, Chiara, Falco and Aleco.

She was also busy travelling the world with her husband’s yachting team, Alinghi.

And yes… you read that correctly!

Although, if you feel you need a few more reasons to be oh-so envious of Kristy's incredible lifstyle, then be sure to check out her hypnotic Instagram feed.

Still, her days certainly aren't all parties and luxury get-aways. The beautiful singer-songwriter has very much been hard at work developing her new collection of songs just in time for summer.

Having previously supported Simply Red’s Mick Knuckhall, she has also performed for the Prince and Princess of Monaco – so understandably the energetic performer has by now really made a name for herself.

Also a former Miss UK, she explains on her website that her mother encouraged her to write poems – something which has later-in-life been channelled into writing music.

In a recent interview with MP!TV the singer furthermore stated that “the stories behind my songs are also the stories of all our lives”.

While drawing from her own experiences, with Indigo Shores Kirsty aims to take her listeners through “life's ups and downs, the friendship and the laughter, and above all the power of love”.

Kirsty has been passionate about music since she was a young child, saying on her website that being a popstar has been all she’s ever wanted. She adds that while she’s been penning music since her teenage years, now that she’s older “there is so much more to write about!”

Her dedication means she is recognised as being a truly sincere songwriter who aims to give her sound real emotion: “I try to tell a story with true depth and meaning," she says honestly.

Kirsty has been married to Swiss-born billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli, 49, since 2000. The family is worth some €13.25bn.

We love the Nineties! The clothes (platform runners), the music (I wanna really really really wanna zigazig ha), and the television (Team Rachel versus Team Ross).

But what we REALLY love looking back on is the oodles of abs that seemed to be forever on display.

Crop-tops, tank-tops, belly-tops were all there in abundance, seen on everyone from Britney to Christina, and from the Spice Girls to the All Saints gals.

Here, we round-up the very best abs that the Nineties had to offer.

Gwen Stefani: The singer/songwriter is now 45 and a mother-of-three, but her abs are in as brilliant shape as they were 20 year ago. Gwen's always loved baring her tum and these days she keeps up her series of gruelling core exercises in order to stay trim.

TLC: The abdomen queens of the era, Tionne T-Boz Watkins, Lisa Left Eye Lopes, and Rozonda Chilli Thomas rarely covered up their toned stomachs. And oh how we love them for it!

All Saints: Everything was big and baggy – not least their coats and combat pants. But they certainly made up for it with heaps of bra-tops and crop-tops that showed off their tanned, tight tums to perfection.

Britney: Think of the 1990s; think of midriffs – and you can't help but think of Britney. Ms Spears made low jeans teamed with bust-line tops her signature look – and in the process she sparked a trend that was copied by millions around the world.

Christina Aguilera: So technically this image is from 2000 – but we reckon it perfectly sums up Nineties-era Christina. The sassier version of Britney, she went for even skimpier outfits that always displayed oodles of ab.

The Spice Girls: The lot of 'em loved a short and sexy top (even you, Victoria) but Mel B trumped the rest with her fondness for getting her belly button out – a preference she retains to this day.

Janet Jackson: Sure her music was good – but her rock-solid stomach has always been JJ's defining characteristic. And she was always more than willing (fair play to her) to roll up a humble t-shirt in order to achieve her desired look.
