Ed Sheeran brought his spectacular one-man show to the iconic Glastonbury festval on Sunday night, but it seems not everyone was impressed with his solo set.

The Shape of You singer was forced to defend his performance after many festival-goers accused him of playing along to backing tracks.

Many were confused as to why they could hear the sound of guitars when Ed didn't appear to be playing anything, or why several guitar tracks could be heard at once.

Of course, most Ed Sheeran fans know that he uses a loop station during his stage shows, but those who were not aware of this technique claimed the singer had not given a 'live' performance and instead used pre-recorded backing tracks during his set.

Others were quick to jump to Ed's defence, pointing out that the solo performer had actually used a loop station, allowing him to create several layers for each track.

Determined to put the confusion to bed, Ed took to Twitter to defend his performance.

So, it seems that not everyone in the crowd was an Ed fan, but hey, isn't that the beauty of Glastonbury?

He may have sold out some of the most iconic music venues in the world, but that fact most certainly hasn't gone to Ed Sheeran's head.

With his headline gig at Glastonbury looming, the 26-year-old singer admits that while he's excited by the prospect, he's acutely aware that he's not playing to his standard demographic.

Speaking to the BBC recently, the Thinking Out Loud singer acknowledged that his inclusion in the festival's line-up may come as a surprise to some.

“I’m definitely the one that’s out of place on that list,” he said. “But I think that’s an exciting thing.”

Ever ambitious, Ed insists that the festival essentially acts as a potential platform to win more fans.

"I’m actually more excited for this than I was for my Wembley Stadium shows because when you’re playing your own shows you’re not really winning anyone over because they’ve all parted with cash to buy a ticket, so you’ve already won them over.," he said.

“But I think I’m going to be playing to a lot of people who might have heard some of my songs on the radio, but they’re Glastonbury goers, they’re not fans of me," he explained.

Seeing the opportunity as a vehicle to increase his fanbase, Ed continued: "Knowing that there are people in the audience who possibly don’t even like my music at all and are just there to sort of see, that excites me.”

Foofighters and Radiohead are also headlining alongside our beloved Ed.

You'd think we'd reached peak Ed Sheeran at the moment, but the man is coming back bigger and better than ever.

Between his recent singles, Carpool Karaoke, and now this, we couldn't love him anymore.

Ed released a cover of Britney Spears' Baby One More Time for Spotify, and while nobody can beat Brit Brit, Ed is definitely a close second.

The song was released on Spotify as part of a program where an artist releases one new song and a cover as a Spotify exclusive.

We have to admit, we're bopping around to this in the office today.

Ed Sheeran's highly anticipated episode of Carpool Karaoke is officially here, and it's just as epic as we expected.

Ed opened up about his social media sabbatical to James Cordon in the episode, revealing that he has only had a phone for two weeks since he took time off to travel.

According to Ed: 'I actually don't have a phone anymore. It's just what it would have been like 30 years ago for our parents.'

'I'd wake up every morning and there would be like 50 messages and none of the would say "hey, how are you?" it would be like "can I have this? Can you lend me this? Can you do this? Can I get this? and it was fine at the beginning but it just got really really draining by the end of it.'

Of course, the pair sang a myriad of Ed's best tunes, and the lad's harmonies on Ed's tune Sing is actually pretty epic.

There is even an impromptu rendition of a One Direction track mid-way through.

The best part of the entire episode? Probably when Ed managed to fit 55 Malteasers into his mouth at the same time before chucking them up at the side of the road. Standard.

Ed Sheeran's highly anticipated episode of Carpool Karaoke is just around the corner, and a preview of the video has just been revealed online.

About four months ago, the chart-topping singer and British comedian James Cordon were spotted zipping around LA in a car rigged with cameras.

Hailed by the clip as the world's biggest male music artist, the clip doesn't give too much away.

Last week, Ed Sheeran fans were left confused after Russell Crowe referred to Ed's girlfriend Cherry as his financeé during an interview.

Had he secretly proposed?

Since when are Ed and Russell such good friends?

So many unanswered questions.

Well, Ed has finally addressed the speculation, revealing that Russell must have just ''assumed'' that he and Cherry were planning to get married.

During an interview with Sydney's Nova969 he explained, ''You know, he's only met Cherry once and I didn't introduce her.''

''I didn't say anything. I think he just assumed. But no, we're not engaged.''

Ed has previously admitted he and Cherry are "on the path" to marriage but they have no plans to tie the knot just yet.

He also revealed that Russel emailed him to apologise for the slip up, but we can't imagine he was too happy about the situation.

The singer is notoriously private when it comes to sharing details about his personal life with the media.

He'd much rather write a hit song about it instead.

Apparently, Ed Sheeran is engaged to his partner Cherry Seaborn… well, if Russell Crowe has anything to say about it.

According to The Sun, the actor let slip that Cherry is Ed's "fiancée" while discussing his relationship with the chart-topper.

He said: “We became friends through people we know and he was on tour and came to stay.

"We just became friendly and he has since come back with his fiancée for more time and stuff.”

So far, Ed's team have stayed quiet about the news, but since the two lads are quite close, it's possible Ed confided in Russell.

The question is though, will they remain friends now that Russell has let out Ed's secret?

We think so, and we also hope the news is true.

Congrats guys!

Man of the moment, Ed Sheeran, appeared on BBC Radio Four’s Desert Island Discs yesterday and listeners learned a lot about the singer’s childhood, his relationship with fame and of course, his taste in music.

The iconic radio show was first broadcast in January 1942 and has been a firm favourite with listeners ever since.

Each week a guest, dubbed the ‘castaway’, is asked to choose eight recordings they would want to have with them if they were stranded on a desert island.

The guest then discusses their choices with presenter, Kirsty Young.

So, what were Ed’s top picks?

Layla – Derek and the Dominos

Carrickfergus – Van Morrison & the Chieftains

Stan – Eminem

Volcano – Damien Rice

Flooded Quarry – Nizlopi

They Won’t Go When I Go – Stevie Wonder

Indian Sunset – Elton John

Two Shades of Hope – Foy Vance

Twitter absolutely loved Ed’s eclectic choice – and we don’t blame them. The boy’s got good taste.

Ed also revealed he “couldn’t really hold a tune until [he] was 16” and admits that his love of Eminem helped him overcome a speech impediment.

Guests on the show are also allowed to pick one book and one luxury item they would bring to the desert island.

The Galway Girl singer chose, the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, and as for the luxury item?

A lifetime’s supply of ketchup.

Whatever makes you happy, Ed!

We've been waiting in anticipation for this music video since we saw Ed Sheeran and Saoirse Ronan shoot it in Galway, and now it's finally here.

The video brings you around the streets and pubs of Galway, passing by Irish dancers and buskers on the street.

It's also totally star-studded with celebs such as Saoirse Ronan, Tommy Tiernan, Hector Ó hEochagáin, and Peter Coonan starring in the video.

The majority of the scenes were shot in O'Connor's pub in Galway, and it perfectly sums up the craic of an Irish session.

Just when you though Ed Sheeran couldn’t get any more famous, his face is now set to grace the walls of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Belfast-based artist, Colin Davidson, created the oil painting in 2015 after a chance encounter with Ed’s dad – who just so happens to be an art historian and curator.

The singer’s father, John Sheeran, suggested that Ed sit for the 4ft by 4ft canvas painting.

Sure, Ed is used to posing for photos and talking selfies with fans, but sitting for an oil painting is a totally different ball game.

However, according to Smooth Radio, Ed actually enjoyed taking time out from his busy schedule to sit for the painting.

Colin, who has also painted Brad Pitt and Kenneth Branagh, seemed to enjoy the process as well saying “It has been a true privilege to get to know Ed and his family.”

“It is my hope that this new portrait offers an alternative insight, one which allows the viewer to glimpse the source of Ed’s unique creativity.”

The portrait will be displayed in the National Portrait Gallery from Wednesday May 3.

Ed will join the likes of Paul McCartney and Oscar Wilde who also have portraits hung in the gallery.

It has been rumoured that Ed Sheeran will have some screen time on the upcoming season of Game of Thrones thanks to a cameo appearance.

The singer has now revealed details about his role, and what capacity he will appear in.

It turns out that he will be sharing a screen with Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark, who is an actual IRL pal of Ed's.

He will also be singing in the cameo, so now we're even more excited to see it.

The singer gave The Hits Radio some subtle clues on his appearance.

'I just do a scene with Maisie,' the singer said.

'I sing a song and then she goes, "oh, that's a nice song"'

All will be revealed when the series returns to HBO in June.

If recent reports are to be believed, it looks like Ed Sheeran could be looking to quit music for a few years… or indeed, forever.

The singer is currently ruling the charts at the the moment with his recent tracks from his latest album, Divide.

However, a source close to the star said that when he settles down with a family, that could be the end of his music career.

“Ed has pretty much achieved everything there is to achieve in music,” an insider told the Daily Star on Sunday.

“He absolutely loves what he does and is riding the wave of his success at the moment, but at the same time he wants a more normal life,” the source continued.

“When or if he gets married he wants to put his wife and kids first and not his career. If that means going AWOL for years then so be it."

Ed has been in a relationship with Cherry Seaborn for the past two years, with numerous insiders claiming she is The One.

“The big test is if the relationship survives this album and the tour,” the source continued.

We kinda want Ed to be in the charts forever…
