Just when we thought Netflix couldn’t get any better they reveal that Barack and Michelle Obama will produce TV shows and movies for the streaming service.

The announcement was made earlier this afternoon and the pair is said to be thrilled about this exciting new venture.

The Obamas will produce a diverse mix of content, including the potential for scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features. These projects will be available to the 125 million members Netflix households in 190 countries.

The Obamas have established Higher Ground Productions as the entity under which they will produce content for Netflix.
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” said Barack Obama.

He added, “We hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Michelle commented: “Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” said Michelle Obama.

“Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”

We've got our popcorn ready and our spots on the sofa reserved because the Obamas are reportedly in talks to produce content for Netflix.

In the proposed deal, which has not yet been finalised, Michelle and Barack Obama would be paid for exclusive content only available via the streaming giant, according to The New York Times.

While the number of episodes and the format of these possible shows still remain mysteriously up-in-the-air, we are so intrigued by this news!

The Obamas reportedly want to feature inspirational stories, rather than directly address President Trump and conservative commentators.

Happy Valentine’s Day, @MichelleObama. You make every day and every place better.

"President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire," noted Eric Schultz, a senior advisor of Barack's.

"Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."

One programme idea involves the former president moderating discussions about important issues from his presidency and beyond, including healthcare and immigration.

Another possible show would focus on Michelle and topics like nutrition that she brought to the fore during Barack's presidency.

While they both have large social media followings (Barack has a whopping 101M followers on Twitter), Netflix would give them incredible reach with nearly 118M subscribers worldwide.

A book about the Obamas? Yes, please!

And it looks like that just might happen if the rumours are to be believed.

Barack and Michelle have reportedly signed a book deal with Penguin Random House for $60 million.

It is claimed that a "heated auction" took place over the last number of days with various publishers wanting to nab the deal.

According to The New York Times, Penguin Random House will reportedly make a "substantial" amount of money from worldwide sales.

Chief Executive of Penguin Random House, Markus Dohle, released a statement saying: "We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama.

It's no easy feat to stand there and look like you're loving your dad's awful jokes while the world's media watches you, but Sasha and Malia Obama pulled it off this year – while looking super-stylish to boot.

Malia, 17 and Sasha, 14, were at the White House yesterday for the President's annual Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon, a family event which sees the POTUS allow two turkeys to escape the chopping block.

Dressed in dark tights and flat leather boots with woolly socks, the pair both looked the picture of relaxed autumn style.

Malia wore an American Apparel striped turtleneck with a forest green A-line mini, and covered up with a seriously gorgeous two-tone Barbour-style jacket.

Sasha opted for a denim skirt and a cream knitted sweater, both also from American Apparel, which she accessorised with large tortoiseshell glasses – her first time wearing them in public.

We're definitely taking notes for our Christmas Day look.

This year's event definitely went more smoothly for the Obama daughters than last year's, which saw a former Republican Party staff member resign after criticising Sasha and Malia's behaviour.

The pair certainly made no effort to hide their boredom at the 2014 Turkey Pardon, something which Elizabeth Lauten called "classless" in a public Facebook post, adding that their outfits would be more fitting "at a bar."

This time around, Malia and Sasha were on their best behaviour, with Sasha even telling her dad, "that was good," after a particularly awful turkey joke.

Sounds like these two are definitely growing up – and they've definitely come a long way (in height, mainly) since their dad's first campaign trail eight years ago.

Such a change!
