With many people discovering they have an intolerance to dairy products, alternatives like soy milk have risen in popularity.

While supermarkets have a number of options, another substitute for cows milk is your very own homemade version – it really isn’t as hard as it seems.

Almond milk has gained a following in recent times and given all its benefits, this comes as no surprise. Here’s how you can make your own.

What you need:

  • 1 cup of almonds
  • 4 cups of water
  • honey to sweeten (optional)

Method:

  1. Put the almonds and water in a blender and whizz until it becomes frothy.
  2. Use a sieve to filter this into a glass (or jar).
  3. Whatever remains in the sieve can be put back into the blender and go for round two.
  4. Repeat.

If you don’t want to enjoy it right away you can leave it in the fridge for a couple of days.
