Just when we thought that the world had run out of ways to braid hair.

Most of us have been taught how to French braid from a young age, especially those of us with sisters.

Then came the fishtail, adding an extra two strands and requiring a higher level of skill.

Plaits have been a great way to rock that Bohemian look or keep our hair out of our faces during a windy day.

But get this…

There are now DNA styled braids.

As if fishtailing wasn’t complicated enough!

DNA braids have gone viral on social media with their intricate spiral shapes and look especially stunning with multicoloured hair.

This is the perfect look for summer festivals!

These plaits are twisted into the signature, helix design of DNA strands, but don’t worry! They are not as complicated as they look.

The creator of the trend, Alex Gaboury, posted a step-by-step tutorial on how to accomplish this amazing hair style.

“Starting off with 3 strands, the middle one being smaller then the others as that will be a stationary strand."

"When taking a strand from left side you are going over that section, under the middle and adding to right side then taking a small section from right side is then brought under and then over the middle section and added to left section."

DNA BRAID TUTORIAL!!! Starting off with 3 strands, the middle one being smaller then the others as that will be a stationary strand. When taking a strand from left side you are going over that section, under the middle and adding to right side then taking a small section from right side is then brought under and then over the middle section and added to left section. Make sure your being consistent with that pattern, the braid naturally starts to twist towards left as you go down so you have to keep it tight while braiding or else it will become more difficult. Small sections are always better, they make the braid look more intricate. It’s always hard to fit a tutorial in 1 minute so I may post slower/longer one on IGTV! She warns people to be ‘consistent with that pattern’ and braid tightly. The spiral will happen naturally as you move further down the plait. "Small sections are always better, they make the braid look more intricate."

This stunning hairstyle has already gained mad popularity.

Alex is a hair guru and has loads of more plait designs on her Instagram.

So, ready to give it a try?

Do you ever gaze in envy at a celeb/friend/cousin/stranger's fancy hair braid and think, "how did she do that?"

Yep, we do too.

We're always on the lookout for new and exciting ways to style our hair and although some of these braids look complicated, they're very quick and easy to do:

Upside down french braid

This style turns the traditional braid on it's head (literally). All you need to do is plait your hair from the nape of your neck rather than downwards from your scalp.

The macrame braid

This messy braided look is perfect for lazy weekends because it's super easy to achieve and looks great no matter what you're wearing.

French braid bun

For an exciting twist on your usual French braid, work the plait around the side of your head and secure your remaining hair into a messy bun.

Flower braid

This look is great for any events or parties you might have coming up. It's certainly an unusual style but the prettiest out of the lot.

Headband braid

This style is great if you're trying to grow out a fringe as you only use the front section on your hair and can style the rest of your do' the way you want.

Your hair style will always be something that is totally unique to you.

Saying that, it's also something that can make you feel fabulous or make you feel like total rubbish.

Either way, there comes a time when you have to change your style, and these signs might be your little last push:

1. You still have The Rachel

Yes, we know it's a great hair style, but there comes a point when EVERY style should pass.

2. Your roots have taken over

Ah, we've all been there. But when they become really noticeable, it's time to make that appointment.

3. You spend ages trying to style it… and then throw it up in a bun

The bun and ponytail are our best friends and there's nothing wrong with wearing one, just not every single day.

4. You look back on photos from 5 years ago and your hair is the exact same

This is not a good sign. Yes, we know if it ain't broke and all that, but there's no problem with altering it a slight bit.

5. Someone tells you look just like your mother

Run to the hairdressers!

6. You can visibly notice your split ends

You NEED a trim, whether you like it or not, you're hair is just getting damaged at this stage.

7. You comment on everyone else's hair do'

Forget about the rest! Love your own hair style.

8. You keep saying that you're think of changing it

We know it can be hard and scary to go for the chop, but just do it – you'll thank us when you have a great new style!

Jealous of your friend’s ability to have amazing looking hair, even at the crack of dawn? Well, now it’s your turn! Here are four really easy ways to style your hair and all you need are a few bobbins and bobby pins – no hairspray required.

Fancy knot
Divide your hair into two sections as if you are going to put it into pigtails. Tie the two sections together and pull it tight. Tie again and secure with bobby pins.

The plaited knot
Put your hair in two pigtail plaits at the back of your head. Just as above tie the two plaits together and secure with a few pins

Keep your pony tail up
Ever wondered how girls keep their ponytail pert looking? The secret is simple – pop three bobby pins underneath your pony through your bobbin. Ta-da!

The front roll
Grab a section of your hair at the front. Pull it to the side, twist it tight and secure just above your ear with, yes you guessed it, a bobby pin.
