Grey’s Anatomy

For the last 10 years, birthday girl Ellen Pompeo has starred as Meredith Grey in the hit series, Grey's Anatomy.

She's remained a firm fan-favourite and one of the highest-paid TV actresses today.

In honour of her special day we are wishing her all the best on her birthday!

However, it did get us thinking about how close her alter-ego Meredith has come to her last birthday. Multiple times.

Any fans of Grey's will tell you that series creator Shonda Rhimes does not hesitate in putting her fans through emotional on a weekly basis.

What are the chances that any of these outrageous incidents would happen to one single person?

Seriously!?

1. She holds a bomb inside a patient’s body. Which then explodes just after she hands it off to Dillon.

2. She drowns

3. She gets far too close to a distraught gunman.

4. A Seattle resident has a pet lion. And the lion escapes

5. She's in the plane crash!

6. She's exposed to toxic blood, for a very long time.

Happy birthday Meredith Grey, you ridiculous human being.

Ten months apart has been time enough for Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink, it seems.

The pair split back in January after fifteen years of marriage, but were spotted in Paris just yesterday looking very much the happy couple.

Wearing sunglasses and dark sweaters, Patrick and Jillian held hands as they strolled through the streets, making it clear they are now more than just friends.

The couple's split was followed just two months later by the shock announcement that Patrick was finishing up his eleven-year tenure on Grey's Anatomy.

Both announcements were strongly linked to rumours Patrick had started up a fling with "a young woman" who worked on the set of the show.

According to reports at the time, Patrick's co-star Ellen Pompeo got wind of got was going on and blew the whistle to both Jillian and the show's creator Shonda Rhimes.

Despite the behind-the-scenes drama, Shonda Rhimes issued a touching tribute after the show aired, saying, "Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character – for Meredith, for me and for the fans.

"I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy'… His loss will be felt by all."

And while Shonda may not be ready to give Patrick another chance, it seems Jillian is.

The celebrity make-up artist has kept Patrick's surname on all of her social media accounts, still going by her married name of Jilian Dempsey.

Patrick himself took to Instagram yesterday to share this romantic snap of the French capital:

The couple, who are parents to 12-year-old Tallulah and seven-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby, certainly seem to be giving things another go.

Well, when you consider the amount of emotional turmoil any Grey’s Anatomy episode will result in, then it should probably not be a surprise that the same person responsible wants to take on Romeo and Juliet.

ABC takeover continues: Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are executive producing a new Romeo and Juliet sequel (of sorts) for the network on which she already has three award winning series.

Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy producer Heather Mitchell will also be writing and also executive producing the series named Still Star-Crossed.

We are so very intrigued by this.

The drama will follow the conflicts between the Capulets and Montagues that arise after Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.

ShondaLand (Shonda’s production company) is already responsible for the trifecta of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder.

The network will be debuting another Rhimes-helmed drama when it replaces How to Get Away With Murder with new drama The Catch during the midseason.

According to Variety the series is to be based on the young adult novel Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub.

While there has been no word of casting yet, we feel like it may not even matter all that much. Given how Shonda likes to toy with her audiences emotions, and basically kill-off anyone we love we should probably not get too attached.

Also, this is a sequel to Romeo and Juliet, and Shakespeare didn’t exactly end that with smiles all around.

However, this is Shonda Rhimes and no doubt anyone who enjoys her creations (which includes the Princess Diaries, FYI) should definitely tune in.

For 12 years the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital has welcomed many a famous face with open arms.

Now the cast and crew of much-loved Grey’s Anatomy are preparing to welcome an Oscar winner—just not in the way you'd think.

Denzel Washington is expected to join the medical drama to  for the ninth episode of season 12, E! News has confirmed, however there is a twist.

Denzel won’t be donning any ferry-boat covered scrub caps, or one of those less than flattering gowns either- he’s going to be directing instead.

The episode, which was written by Grey's head writer Stacy McKee, will begin filming later this month. It is scheduled to air during November sweeps in the US.

This is pretty much when the most epic of plot twists take place, so basically the time of year when all your TV-addict friends need you to respect their fragile emotions.

Especially when it comes to Grey’s.

The episode will mark Denzel’s first time directing for TV. He has directed two films: 2002's Antwone Fisher and 2007's The Great Debaters.

Denzel is joining the series as it's undergoing a bit of a renaissance.

The post-McDreamy episodes are set to explore Meredith’s life as a single mom and fans are dying to know if she’s going to be getting a new love interest.

Shonda Rhimes told E! News this summer that the love story isn't a current priority:

"Meredith is in a rebirth and she's evolving. I'm watching the character do what the character's doing and I'll see where it goes."

In case you missed it, Shonda Rhimes has become a pretty big deal in TV land.

Not only is she the emotionally reckless mastermind behind Grey’s Anatomy, she is also responsible for bringing Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder to our screens.

She is also the reason that one our favourite fictional ladies (possibly ever), Meredith Grey was spotted flinging red wine at some of Hollywood’s other leading ladies, including Kerry Washington, Scandal’s star.

Not to worry though, there isn’t another celebrity spat about to wreak havoc on social media. The TV stars were just doing a bit of promotional work.

To be honest, any Scandal fans out there know that Olivia would never be one to waste a good glass of red.

The cast of Shonda’s three series got together for one epic photoshoot. So epic in fact that it led to four different cover shots for Entertainment Weekly.

Sitting down over some wine and cheese with the show’s creator, stars Viola Davis, Ellen Pompeo and Kerry Washington had a frank discussion about Hollywood and McDreamy, of course.

Ellen pointed out that a lot of the reaction to the much loved characters death was something she recognised as quite sexist:

“All of a sudden, Patrick [Dempsey] leaves, and it’s like, Oh my God, Meredith’s gonna get killed with Alzheimer’s! The show couldn’t possibly go on without the man!

Shonda is famous for keeping her storylines under lock and key and making all of her actors swear to secrecy to avoid spoilers breaking free.

However, there was one nugget of information for any Scandal fans out there as she revealed Cyrus (played by Jeff Perry), will be something of a “monster of the loose” in upcoming episodes.

“He had an arena to play in before, and now the monster is out, and that is a dangerous thing.”

In the last year Shonda Rhimes has been getting an awful lot of grief from Grey’s Anatomy fans. If you or anyone in your life was a Grey’s fan, specifically if they were fond of one Dr. McDreamy, then you probably heard all about it.

In the latest season he came to an untimely ending and fans were not happy. Not one bit.

This week Shonda has revealed that she didn’t do it entirely out a need to make her fans cry, well, that’s what she claims anyway.

She explained that with Patrick Dempsey, who played handsome brain surgeon Derek Shepherd for almost 11 years, exiting the show she saw no other way to wrap up his storyline.

"What were the options? Either Der was going to walk out on Mer and leave her high and dry, and what was that going to mean?"

So, instead of breaking Meredith’s heart she decided to go and break the hearts of her millions of viewers instead. Nice Shonda.

"As painful as it was for me as a storyteller, the only way to preserve what felt true to me was Derek was going to have to die for that love to remain honest."

She went on to say that next season will be a “rebirth” of sorts:

"We do have this world in which Meredith is single, and she is living this life that she hadn't thought she was going to be living again.”

To be honest, we hadn’t thought of a world where one of television’s most pivotal couples was going to be ripped away from us either.

Jesse Williams who plays Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy is expecting his second child with wife, Aryn Drake-Lee.

While the news about the pregnancy has only just surfaced, Mr Williams’ wife of three years is in fact expected to give birth before the end of the summer.

Speaking to E! News, a source revealed that “They are really excited and this was something they really wanted.

“They are a very private couple and they like to keep this kind of news to just close family and friends.”

Unlike most celebrity whirlwind romances, 33-year-old Jesse had a very conventional and totally sweet love story with his wife, who is a real-estate broker.

The pair met when the Grey’s star was working as a school teacher in New York. They dated for five years before getting married in 2012 in front of family and close friends. They have one daughter together, Sadie, who was born in 2013.

A guest who was at their wedding told People how the groom was “beaming with joy” before saying “I do.”

“You could feel the love they have for each other. They’re madly in love!” the insider revealed.

A huge congratulations to the happy couple, we already can’t wait to meet the newest member of their family!

Spoilers ahead!

Fans of the long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy were left shocked last month when one of the show's most beloved actors, Patrick Dempsey, ended his eleven year tenure on the show in a tragic episode which saw him being killed off.

However now it seems that Patrick's departure was not his own decision, but that of the show's producers, after the actor got involved in an "inappropriate relationship" on set.

According to a new report by InTouch, Patrick's onscreen wife Ellen Pompeo found out about his romantic involvement with "a young woman who worked on the set," and told both Patrick's wife of eleven years Jillian Fink and the show's creator Shonda Rhimes, leading to ABC's decision to fire him from the show.

News of Patrick's sudden exit from Grey's Anatomy came just months after Jillian filed for divorce, something it's strongly believed is linked to the revelation that Patrick had been unfaithful.

In Dr Shepherd's final episode, which aired in the US on April 23rd, the neurosurgeon is seen stopping to help the victims of a car crash on an open road when he is slammed into by a truck.

Having suffered major head trauma, he is later declared brain dead, bringing his time on the show to a tragic close.

Despite the behind-the-scenes drama, Shonda Rhimes issued a touching tribute after the show aired, saying, "Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character – for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy'… His loss will be felt by all."

As for Patrick, he said his own goodbye with a message on Twitter which read, "I want to thank all the fans, what an incredible 11 yrs, I love you all."

The actor has three children with his estranged wife Jillian, 13-year-old Talula and eight-year-old twins Darby and Sullivan.

Katherine Heigl has a reputation for being a major diva in Hollywood and one person who is always keen to fuel those rumours is Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, something which thirty-five-year-old Katherine struggles to deal with.

In a revealing and emotional interview with Mario Lopez, the Knocked Up star said: “I am sorry that she feels that way, and I wish her nothing but greatness, and I have nothing negative to say about Shonda.” Aw, does anyone else feel a little sad for Katherine right now?

Shonda was recently interviewed about the cast of her latest show Scandal and the 44-year-old director and producer couldn’t help but make a dig at the former Grey’s Anatomy star, saying: “There are no Heigls in this situation. I don’t put up with bullsh*t or nasty people.” Ouch.

Responding to Shonda’s comments and appearing to reach out to the director, Katherine says: “I’m sorry she’s left with such a crappy impression of me. I wish I could do something to change that. Maybe I will be able to someday.”

Katherine has been asked in the past to address the supposed feud with Shonda and has said: “Of course, just like any human being, I’ve made mistakes and unwittingly or carelessly spoken or acted, but I always try to make any wrong right.”

We think Katherine's most recent comments suggest just that she may be more affected by Shonda's remarks than we might have thought.

Usually when a star is accused of diva behaviour they laugh off the rumours.

That’s not the case with Katherine Heigl, however.

The actress, who has developed a reputation over the years for being a bit of a handful, has admitted that while she doesn’t think she’s rude, she has made “mistakes” in the past.

Speaking in a Facebook Q&A, the star said: “Of course, just like any human being, I’ve made mistakes and unwittingly or carelessly spoken or acted, but I always try to make any wrong right.”

She added: "That doesn't mean I won't stand up for myself by drawing boundaries and asking to be treated kindly and respectfully but I don't do that with any rude or unkind intentions just with the same strength and honestly I think every one of us is entitled to."

Heigl’s carefully-worded comments come just days after her former Grey’s Anatomy colleague Shonda Rhimes took a pretty big swipe at her.

The show’s creator hinted that there is no love lost between herself and the actress as she said: “There are no Heigls in this situation… I don't put up with bulls**t or nasty people. I don't have time for it.”

Actress Ellen Pompeo has become a mum for the second time – but she managed to keep her new arrival a secret from the media for two whole months!

The Grey's Anatomy lead revealed on social media last night that her daughter Sienna May Ivery had been born in August by surrogate. She already has one child, five-year-old Stella Luna.

Ellen thanked her co-stars for their help in keeping Sienna's arrival under wraps:

The star also shared a beautiful picture of her husband Chris Ivery kissing the new little one.

The black-and-white photo was captioned, "We love you more than words can say."

We know the baby's a cutie, but it's this amazing nursery we can't get over – is it possible to be jealous of a two-month-old?! Look at that stylish cot!

Ellen says she is smitten with her growing family. "I try my absolute hardest every minute of the day to be the best mother I can to those children," she said in an interview.

"Not having a mother growing up, being a mother is more significant than I can put into words," she added.

The new season of Grey’s Anatomy is starting next week, and judging by Ellen Pompeo’s snap, it looks like the cast could be starring in another one of our favourites, Orange Is The New Black!

Sadly, it seems they were just clowning around – though with all the goings on in that hospital, we wouldn’t be surprised if one or two characters ended up behind bars!

Ellen was channelling Tricia Miller’s braids and sporting a makeshift prison jumpuit. Sara Ramirez, who plays Callie, even got a tattoo for the photo! Though we imagine it’s the kind that will wash off in the shower….

This photo really got our hopes up – please, someone make it a reality!
