GBBO

Sue Perkins had taken to her blog to post a letter that described her heartbreak and guilt following a tragic loss.

The 45-year old presenter of The Great British Bake off had penned the tribute to her dog Pickles, a beagle, when he had to be put down. The canine was suffering from cancer and Sue described the guilt she felt at “having you killed.”

Though it has been a year since Sue’s beloved pooch passed away, in recent days the letter has been circulated widely on social media.

“This is NOT a eulogy. Quite frankly Pickle, you don’t deserve one, because, as you are well aware, your behaviour from birth, right up to the end was unequivocally terrible.”

Sue wrote ‘A letter to Pickles’ in January last year and it has been viewed almost 100,000 times.

The comedienne labelled the post with a warning: “this contains graphic scenes of pet adoration.”

She described Pickles as both her best friend and protector. While it does have some light hearted moments, although no innuendos about soggy bottoms, it is also making us feel a lot of feelings.

One reader commented: "I haven't cried this much in years."

While others were able to share in Sue's grief:

“I didn’t ever believe that something as alive as you could ever succumb to something as ordinary as death… How could you be sick when you ran and jumped and played, day after day?”

Any pet owner can imagine the pain of having to let a long-time companion go and Sue manages to put it into words incredibly well.

Sue hasn’t been put off bringing a new dog into her life though. This time she says she would look into a rescue pet.

Between this and Mary Berry’s spoiler slip-up yesterday, the people of GBBO are just putting us through the emotional wringer. We need to sit down.

*No spoilers here… we promise*

We're only three weeks into Great British Bake Off and we've already had our first clanger, courtesy of Mary Berry. The legendary baker and GBBO judge apparently revealed live on BBC radio who was set to leave the Bake Off tent this evening, forgetting that only two episodes had aired so far.

Chatting to Chris Evans on Radio 2, Mary got flustered when discussing who had been eliminated.

When Chris said, "You’ve already lost two," the 80-year-old replied "Wait a minute we’ve already lost three!"

She then went on to list the names of the bakers who'd been kicked off so far, saying, "Marie, ******, and on the first week it was the lovely chap with the little hat on [Stuart]."

Poor Stu obviously didn't make much of an impression with his beetroot cake in Week One if the judges have already forgotten his name…

Twitter soon went into overdrive with listeners cringing on poor Mary's behalf after what appeared to be one hell of a spoiler.

Well, some cringed. Others were not so sympathetic:

If you REALLY can't wait until tonight to find out who is reportedly leaving (you party pooper), you can find out on Twitter here or here.

While we'd all love to claim we're domestic goddesses in the kitchen, sometimes our baking experiences are less successful than we'd like. And by that we mean, there's usually half a bag of flour in our hair, a strong smell of burning and a batch of biscuits in the bin.

Oh, well. At least all those epic baking fails make for good Instagram posts, right?

Next time you're doubting your baking prowess, you can take some consolation in the fact that you're not the first person to drastically underestimate the need for baking powder, or leave that flourless chocolate cake in the oven just a little TOO long.

Here are a few of our favourite #BakingFails from Instagram, Pinterest and beyond…

1. This poor gal who didn't get her measurements quite right…

So my idea of "golfball size" is a little off… #bakingfail cc: @christinatosi

Macarons just ain't happening for me.

5. This absolute Pinterest disaster

6. And this one…

7. These "baked eggs" that turned out very NSFW indeed

8. And (our favourite)… this Minion cake gone very, very wrong

Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins has admitted she is giving Twitter a break after she became the subject of a cruel online bullying campaign.

Sue is currently in India on a filming trip and said she was shocked to discover the awful messages being tweeted from the UK, stemming from rumours she was set to replace Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

Jeremy was recently fired from the show after getting into a verbal altercation with a producer in public. In the last week or so, Sue had become the bookies' favourite to replace him, although neither Sue or the BBC had confirmed it.

In fact, Sue denied the rumours completely when a fan asked her if she was indeed in the running to replace Jeremy:

Earlier today the presenter took to social media to express her hurt and anger at the reaction to the idea of a woman presenting Top Gear, and said she had received hundreds of cruel comments including death threats.

"Guys, post the utterly fabricated story about me & Top Gear, my timeline has been full of blokes wishing me dead…" she wrote.

"This morning, someone suggested they'd like to see me burn to death."

Sue then announced that she was quitting Twitter for the foreseeable future, writing, "All of which goes to say that I am off Twitter for a bit. Love and peace x"

Such a horrible and unnecessary situation – we hope Sue returns soon.

Ruby Tandoh may be The Great British Bake Off’s most famous star ever; from lots of tears to rumours of favourtism, Ruby is one that many fans have remembered since she appeared on the show in 2013.

Yesterday, Ruby took to Twitter to announce that she is gay, sharing a video of Diana Ross’ I’m Coming Out and writing: “me to my parents today. Feeling lucky and joyful and free. Over and out.”

The food writer also took the opportunity to dismiss rumours she had been a bit too close to mentor Paul Hollywood: “For those who thought I fancied Paul Hollywood or that I’d ever bang him to get ahead – JOKE’S ON YOU, YOU MASSIVE SHI**ING MISOGYNISTS.”

The response from Ruby’s fans was incredible with many inspired to come out themselves to loved ones thanks to her news, with Ruby responding: “and to those who came out yesterday, spurred on by the love/support you saw on here – I am so fu**ing happy for you and a bit teary too tbh.”

Unfortunately for Ruby, there was one person who had an issue with the way in which she handled her announcement, with Paul Hollywood blasting her for using his name: “very happy for you Ruby … but why do you feel it necessary bringing me into your announcement?”

We're so glad that Ruby's announcement managed to inspire so many people to be who they really are.

There was a Great British Bake Off scandal the other day as contestant Iain Watters stormed out of the tent following allegations of sabotage from fellow contestant, Diana Beard.

Diana had been seen taking his ice-cream out of the fridge, meaning it melted and his baked Alaska ruined. He binned it, and upon showing his dessert to the judges, made the poor decision to bring the bin up with him…

It wasn’t long before #DirtyDiana began to trend on the Twittersphere and has now gotten so bad that judge Paul Hollywood, presenter, Sue Perkins and even Iain himself have spoken out.

Paul has decided that it’s time to end all of the speculation and hate on Twitter, writing: “At the end of the day Mary & I need something to judge, it’s not about melted ice cream but about what’s presented to US… #bingate.”

He also pointed out that poor Mary Berry would be deeply hurt by the whole debacle: “I’m glad Mary’s not on twitter this would upset her.. #enoughnow.”

Presenter Sue Perkins also gave her two cents, saying: “Iain’s Alaska was out of the freezer for 40 secs. That’s it. No sabotage. 40 secs of normal temp would NOT be enough to reduce it to liquid.”

Even Iain himself has weighed in on the #DirtyDiana incident, saying it's over now and calling for a Twitter ceasefire: "Guys no hard feelings now. Diana is a top lady and all us tent bakers are great pals. Can't wait to tune into the rest of the series." Sure, Iain, suuuure.

Things are getting real sticky over in the GBBO tent…!
