Danny DeVito did the LOVELIEST thing for Mara Wilson’s dying mum

She was the star of some of our favourite childhood movies, but Mara Wilson’s experience of Hollywood wasn’t all sweetness and light.

Now, the Matilda star is back with a new book, Where Am I Now?, to share the good, the bad and the downright ugly from her career as a child actress.

Currently on the promotional trail for her book, the 29-year-old appeared via live link on ITV’s Lorraine this morning, and she had a gorgeous story to share from her time filming Matilda.

Mara’s mother, Suzie, battled breast cancer during the filming of the Roald Dahl adaptation, and died shortly after the movie wrapped.

Unbeknownst to Mara at the time, however, Danny DeVito – who directed as well as starred in the film – actually showed Suzie an uncut version of the movie before she passed away.

“Knowing that Danny did that, it really did warm my heart because she [Suzie] was a part of the film until the very end,” Mara admitted.

The author didn’t hold back when it came to her experience in Hollywood either, admitting that she didn’t believe she had ‘that Hollywood beauty’ by the end of her career.

“That’s Hollywood for you…I went out on the same calls as Kristen Stewart – even though we’re two very different people – just because we happened to be two young brunettes,” she explained.

Mara added: “It’s just your height, your looks, your demographics; and that’s all it is. You have to look a certain way.”
