Remember Fr. Ray Kelly, that priest who won the hearts of a nation after he sang a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ during a couple’s wedding ceremony?
Well, he’s after getting himself a record deal!
Universal Music Ireland have teamed up with the singing priest and he’s been busy writing and recording songs for his debut album, which is due to be released at Christmas.
He’s made sure his new musical lifestyle won’t get in the way of his religious duties though, as the record company have built him a studio in his parochial house on Co. Meath!
Maybe we could send him to the Eurovision next year, singing a rendition of ‘My Lovely Horse’. Sure it’d be a bit of a laugh at the very least!
Our favourite singing priest could be set for global stardom as he meets with a number of major record companies this week.
Meath priest Fr Ray Kelly became an internet sensation after the release of a video that sees him surprising a couple during their wedding ceremony by breaking into a heart-melting version of Hallelujah.
And now, after millions of hits on YouTube, it seems the singing priest’s sudden rise to stardom has caught the attention of some of the world’s biggest record labels.
Fr Kelly said, “There have been a couple of approaches made from big record companies. I’ll sit down and talk to them and see what they have to offer. They have ties in Ireland, the UK and worldwide.”
The talented priest is even gearing up for a meeting with Sony this week!
“I knew I could sing – and that I had a voice – but I never thought I’d be in this league,” he admitted. “As a young lad I always dreamed about hitting the big time. But not many people get there. It’s kind of like somebody winning the Lotto – and then all of a sudden their life changes forever.”
“Somebody even compared me to a male Susan Boyle. I’d like to launch an international career – but I still want to be a priest,” he added.
Sit back and enjoy Fr Kelly’s amazing performance once more!
